Birchbox The Exclusive to Birchbox Kit Review

Exclusive Birchbox info sheet

Here is the info sheet detailing the products included.

Exclusive Birchbox peek 1 Exclusive Birchbox peek 2

PEEK Beauty Metalimatte Naturally Quick Drying Blush in A-boo,  0.05 oz – Estimated Value $7 (buy the full-size version for $22)

This blush really does help you get a natural flush thanks to the quick-drying cream-to-powder formula and how well it blends out into your skin. I like the peach tone of this with the shimmer that doesn’t look glittery. I used this as an eyeshadow with the Beauty Crop highlighter, and I really loved how bright it made my eyes look!

Exclusive Birchbox lise water

Lise Watier Magnifix Makeup Fixative Mist, 0.44 oz – Estimated Value $2.93 (buy the full-size version for $26)

I was a bit nervous trying this setting mist because one of the ingredients is white tea and about 6 years ago I had a really bad reaction to a face wash that had white tea as the main ingredient. I have stayed away from it ever since, but I thought I would try this out anyways. I was really happy with how it helped the skin tint last on my face and no skin irritation!

Exclusive Birchbox highlighter

The Beauty Crop Lighting Crew Highlighting Cream, Full-Size! – Retail Value $12

I can’t remember if I have tried this before or not, but it definitely felt familiar to me. The formula is free of all the bad stuff like parabens, phthalates, etc., and while it can pack a shimmery pigmented punch it can also be blended out to be a bit more subtle. I think this would be really pretty with a drop or two mixed in with the skin tint also included in this box.

Exclusive Birchbox eyeko 1 Exclusive Birchbox eyeko 2

Eyeko Brow Liner in Medium, 0.4 oz – Estimated Value $11.43 (buy the full-size version for $20 – currently out of stock)

I thought I had tried all of the liners Eyeko has to offer, but this brow liner is completely new to me and I love it. It is a sheer, buildable shade that you can use to define and fill in your brows, and it blends in nicely with your natural brows. I will most likely be buying the full-size version when my sample runs out.

Exclusive Birchbox cynthia 1 Exclusive Birchbox cynthia 2

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Liquid Eyeliner in Black, Full-Size! – Retail Value $18

Cynthia Rowley’s black liquid eyeliner is not new to me, but it’s a good one. I like the control that the longer felt tip gives me, as it makes me feel like I am almost able to achieve a half decent wing (eyeliner wings are my arch nemesis). The black is a deep black too, which is exactly how I like my eyeliner.

Exclusive Birchbox marcelle 1 Exclusive Birchbox marcelle 2

Marcelle Ultimate Volume Nano Mascara, 0.18 oz – Estimated Value $10.80 (buy the full-size version for $15)

Normally I don’t like mascaras with tiny brushes like this one, but this one impressed me! The small size made it easy to go to the base of every lash and coat it with mascara, lifting it and adding to the volume. I used it on its own in the photos below, but I think this would be best served in a 2-mascara system for maximum va-va-voom.

Exclusive Birchbox brow 1 Exclusive Birchbox brow 2

Beautaniq Beauty Fill + Tame Brow Gel in Clear, Full-size! – Retail Value $12

I will be honest and admit I was a little bummed to receive the brow gel in clear considering they also offer tinted versions. This can’t really “fill” in my brows without and color. Of course, the clear version means that it can be universal. I don’t consider my brows to be especially unruly—they just kind of sit there on my face. So I think this brow gel did a good job of holding my brows, but nothing about this clear version makes me want to buy it again.

Here are the swatches, from top to bottom, of the highlighter, the eyeliner, the brow liner, and the blush.

Exclusive Birchbox arrow 1 Exclusive Birchbox arrow 2

ARROW ENERGIZE Skin Tint0.17 oz – Estimated Value $3.67 (buy the full-size version for $22)

I was supposed to receive the deluxe-sample size version of this skin tint, however when I got my box both this and the Love of Color lipstick were missing completely. When we reached out to Birchbox they sent out replacements, only I received a full-size bottle of this rather than the original sample. I based the value off of what normal purchasers would receive. All of that aside, I really loved this skin tint! I thought it really helped me achieve that “my skin but better” vibe that I always love to have, and it lasted through a sweaty night in Houston, Texas.

Exclusive Birchbox loc 1 Exclusive Birchbox loc 2 Exclusive Birchbox loc 3

Love of Color Vibrant Matte Lipstick in Color Me Confident, Full-Size! – Retail Value $10

This lipstick is super creamy and smooth to apply, and this is definitely a statement-making lip color. The only downside to how creamy this lipstick is is that it will smudge easily.

Exclusive Birchbox swatch 2

Here are the swatches of the skin tint (not blended) and the lipstick.

Exclusive Birchbox selfie 1

Here I am wearing everything in the box. Instead of using the blush on my cheeks I dabbed it to the center of my eyelid, and I used the highlighter both on my eyelids and my cheekbones. The overall look left me feeling fresh-faced and pretty, but I wasn’t really digging the bold red lip with the rest of the look, so I wiped it off. The red lipstick definitely stained my lips a bit, but I consider that a good thing.

Exclusive Birchbox selfie 2

Here I am with everything minus the lipstick + a sheer nude lipstick from my Bless Summer LE Box (review coming soon!). I absolutely loved it!

The Verdict: This was another great discovery kit from Birchbox! I was impressed with the fact that 4 full-size items are included in this box, and you really get everything you need for a full face of makeup. On my recent overnight trip to Houston I just took this entire bag with me and no other makeup except the lipstick I had in my purse, and I was able to create a look I really enjoyed. Value-wise, Birchbox promises that this kit has a $98 value, and by my math, they came close with a total value of $89.93.

The Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if I sign up today? Yes, as of publication, this box is still available!

Coupon – Check out all the free gift with purchase coupons, and don’t forget to add your free sample pack with any $35 purchase.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $34 + $5 shipping and I calculated a value of $89.93. That means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Peek Blush: $3.03
  • Lise Mist: $1.27
  • The Beauty Crop Highlighter: $5.20
  • Eyeko Brow Liner: $4.95
  • Cynthia Rowley Eyeliner: $8.67
  • Marcelle Mascara: $4.68
  • Beautanique Brow Gel: $5.20
  • Arrow Skin Tint: $1.59
  • Love of Color Lipstick: $4.33

  1. I really want that mascara…

  2. Jessica.. I’ve been super curious about that Arrow Energize Skin Tint for awhile now and had been wondering how effective it was in evening out skin tone. Since you recommended the Wet & Wild cushion foundation compact that has worked just as well for me as all the other high priced foundations that I’ve tried in the past, I absolutely value your opinion on these things!! I have medium tone, super oily skin and I live in Kansas..where the humidity is still insane! Just a couple of questions…did the skin tint transfer a bunch, how’s the color… does it have yellow undertones or is it more neutral?? Also, did it wear evenly throughout the day? Sorry for all the questions, but I’ve definitely spent more than my fair share on foundations and other skin tint products that either melted off my skin before getting into the car, transferred onto everything or ended up making my look like I was suffering from a bad case of Jaundice!! Thanks so much for you help! I always look forward to your very helpful and informative reviews!! 😉

  3. I think you looked great with the red lipstick! 🙂

  4. I received a tinted version of that brow gel in my monthly birchbox and it was terrible. First of all, I got a very dark color when my hair and eyebrows are light brown. Secondly, it bled too much. Those two issues combined made it look like I was wearing a bad toupee on my eyrbrow! I re-purpose it as a mascara sometimes but it will transfer to my hooded eyelids if I get sweaty. I don’t recommend that product.

    • I received that same brow gel in a swap, and I hated it as well. It’s supposed to be a blonde shade but it was wayyy too dark. I think perhaps it was the applicator depositing too much product. I have used the applicator from the benefit brow tint that I had a sample of, and it actually works much better and I’ll use it off and on instead of brow powder.

  5. It’s a $98 value, according to Birchbox. 😉

  6. $34 + $5 shipping ($25 value)… huh?? It is $39. with a value of $25? Why would anyone purchase this?

    • It’s a mistake. If you read the whole review she calculated a value of $89.93.

    • Sorry about that Michelle, I made a mistake. Birchbox promised a value of $98

  7. I’d say you nailed the wing! Now, if only I could…
