Stitch Fix Kids August 2018 Review

In our Stitch Fix Kids box were several bright and colorful information sheets and a set of stickers for my daughter. I love that they also have a "box challenge" so that you can creatively recycle while entertaining them at the same time!

This is the invoice that was sent in the box. It provides specifics on the brand, size, and price of each item. They also give instructions at the bottom for how to check out and either purchase or return your items in the pre-paid postmarked envelope they provide. The items for my daughter came to a total of $206, but with the 25% discount (which they take off BEFORE they deduct the $20) and the $20 credit, our total drops down to $134.50.

This is the included stylesheet which features pictures of all the clothes and a note from her stylist- so cute how they have a little maze on the outside of it! I told Liv's stylist that she loves to dance and twirl around and in the note to her, she tells us how she tried to accommodate that! I just think it's cute that she signed off "Take care, panda bear!" and Liv loved that she had a personal note just for her.

Capelli New York Rosie High Top Sneakers, Size 12 - Cost to Keep: $20

Well, we started off with a bang! These shoes arrived in their own little bag, complete with a handle, and my daughter had to put them on as soon as she saw them! Sequins, glitter, and rose gold all in a sturdy sneaker? We were both in love! She has been wearing these non-stop (as you will see in all of her pictures- she had to put them right back on as soon as she got changed!) and they are holding up well. I actually think $20 is really reasonable for a pair of sneakers- especially ones this fabulous! I knew these were a keeper the moment we saw them.

Kate Spade Eloise Graphic Tee & Metallic Skirt Set, Size 6 - Cost to Keep: $42

This was my favorite outfit in the box and it was absolutely my daughter's style! She loves skirts and hearts and all things girly. This actually only counted as one item in our box, as did another set, so really we got a total of 12 items this month. I think that $42 is a little pricey for this, but it is Kate Spade and super cute. If we kept everything in the box, it's a little bit more reasonable with 25% off. This outfit fits her the best out of everything we tried.

Just a note: my daughter is almost 4 and is incredibly tall for her age. She has been wearing 5T, but she is getting too tall for it all, so I asked for size 6, which means her skinny little 4-year-old body is swimming in everything, even though it's all the right length on her!

RUMI + RYDER Ann Drop Waist Dress with Pockets, Size S- Cost to Keep: $24

This was my daughter's favorite item this month and I can't blame her, because what girl doesn't love a dress with pockets? This is one of those items that is swimming on her- I don't think drop waist is her thing- and since it isn't that flattering, I definitely wouldn't have picked this out myself. It seems like it is decent quality since it is stretchy and she has been playing in it for two days with no signs of snagging! It is a warm, knit material that is also lightweight and has long sleeves, so we will definitely be getting use out of this all through fall and winter when we pair it with some leggings! Plus she can twirl in it, which is all she wants to do.

RUMI + RYDER Brielle Drop Waist Dress, Size S - Cost to Keep: $24

I wanted to love this dress with the beautiful colors and floral pattern, but drop waist is just not working for her! Maybe once she grows into it, I will like it a little bit more. The material is nice and thick and a nice quality. Again, this is a great fall to winter transition dress with the long sleeves and looks cute with some leggings!

Capelli New York Mariana Seamless Leggings, Size S - Cost to Keep: $12

These leggings are great! They are thick, fleecy leggings that are long and will fit her for a while. I love the navy with the little gold foil hearts! The stylist recommended pairing them with the floral dress, although it's not my favorite look. She has actually been wearing them with the Kate Spade outfit, which is a much better match. Although, she has never been afraid of mixing patterns!

Capelli New York Elaine Legging Set, Size 6 - Cost to Keep: $12

This is the perfect outfit for a soon-to-be four-year-old. The leggings are super cute, long and stretchy with fun graphics, but not too in your face with the subtle light denim shade. I love the little tie on the unicorn shirt that gives it just the right amount of flair! The stylist also recommended pairing these leggings with her pink dress, which we definitely will be doing once the weather gets cold.

NASA Graphic Tee, Size 6 - Cost to Keep $14

I really love the space theme on this shirt, but it's just a plain graphic tee. It feels overpriced to me considering how many adorable tees you can get for half the price pretty much anywhere else. (modeled below)

Paisley Sky Girls Tera Mid Rise Skinny Jean, Size 6 - Cost to keep $20

These jeans are a great color and super long on my little string bean, but fortunately, those new hightops hide the extra fabric well! These were just a smidge loose on her waist but easy to tighten with the adjustable waistband. The quality feels great and I'm happy with them!

Disney Licensed Graphic Mickey Tee, Size S - Cost to Keep: $14

I get that this is a licensed Mickey tee and I think it's cute (although she said she wanted Minnie...go figure!), but again, I think it's a little overpriced for a tee that doesn't really blow me away. She likes Mickey just fine, but if we are splurging on licensed merchandise, it better have a Disney princess on it!

Persaya Girl Alani Lettuce Hem Top, Size S - Cost to Keep: $14

I am pretty sure I had a very similar shirt like this in 6th grade, which was indeed in the 90's. I do not think this is a look I wanted to bring back though. It was very soft and the material was surprisingly thin. The lettuce cut edges on the sleeves are sort of cute, but I think it is just these stripes and the colors in them that I am not a fan of. It's not a bad shirt, but not one I would have picked out for her.

The Verdict: Well if you ask my daughter, her Stitch Fix Kids box was fantastic! Everything was decent quality, but I definitely would have preferred more flattering dresses. Also, while I can appreciate a decent graphic tee, we didn't need two of them at that price. So to break it down a bit, we received a pair of jeans, 2 pairs of leggings, 2 dresses, a skirt, 4 t-shirts, one long sleeved shirt and a pair of sneakers. While I didn't love everything, I know that she will wear it all (she pretty much already has) and there are a lot of items that will take us right through winter, so I can appreciate that! If we had sent back the 3 shirts (2 tees & striped) and the flowered dress, we still would have paid $120 for everything else, so it made much more sense to keep the entire box and get the discount to bring our total down to $134.50 That's an average of just over $11 per item, which isn't too bad. I was surprised at how many items we received and I liked the variety that we got. It also felt pretty spot on as far as her style, even though this was only our first Fix.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Stitch Fix curates its boxes based on each individual’s preferences as well as what’s available. What you get might not be the same as what we got, but you will probably get something that fits your child's style and size even better than the looks above! Sign up and see what they choose for you!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $20 with free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the items inside is $206. The invoice lists the cost of each item next to it, but if I keep all of the items, then I get a 25% discount. The $20 styling fee for the box is applied to the purchase no matter how many items you keep, and in this case, it would bring the total down to $134.50. That’s a discount of around 35% for these items!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

The main concern I have with this type of sub is; if I’m going to spend $135 on clothes for my daughter, I had better love every piece. To have two dresses and three shirts I’m not happy with would really bother me. If I loved each item then the value would definitely be there, but if this was my box I would really have a hard time justifying this.

On a side note- my 3 y/o daughter has curly curls too. I’ve been using a styling cream called “T is for Tame” and it helps smooth down the flyaways without being really sticky or greasy. It’s good for boys and girls too. I don’t use it everyday, just when I need her hair to stay in the ponytail or barrettes; for pictures or nicer occasions. I bought it on Amazon, I’m not sure where else it’s sold, but it comes in handy. 😊

I completely understand! It was hard for me to decide at first since I didn’t love every piece, but she does and will wear it all, so that helped! It was just one of those times when keeping the whole box made more sense to get that 25% off the items I do love!

Thanks so much for the tip on the hair! That sounds great! I’ll check it out for sure! 🙂

The dresses are cute but just a little big. I bet once she grows into them a little more, they will be perfect!

That’s what I’m hoping! 🙂

What brand is the NASA tee? My 9 year old would absolutely flip for that since it has the actual mission crafts on it!

Brandi

StitchFix listed it as NASA, but the brand on the shirt is Chemistry and it says c-life group.com on the tag. I tried to search for it but didn’t have any luck! Hopefully you’ll have better luck!
