SnackSack Gluten-Free August 2018 Review

Included in the box is a brochure that describes the contents of the box. The outer cover highlights SnackSack’s social media pages and offers ways to win snacks and prizes.

The inside of the brochure lists all the items included in the Classic, Vegan and Gluten-Free SnackSack boxes. Highlighted are the items in the Gluten Free box. You’ll notice that some of the same items are included across all boxes, so you may receive snacks that are both vegan and gluten-free and they all are either non-GMO or all natural.

Every first-time subscriber receives a reusable SnackSack bag, great for carrying around your snack and doubles as a reusable grocery bag.

Being a busy mom of two kids, I’m always looking for healthy guilt-free snacks that are easy to grab-and-go. Since snacking is a family affair, I’ve enlisted the help of my 7-year-old daughter for this review. Let’s see if her opinions differ from my own!

Beanitos Hint of Lime White Bean Chips, 1.2 oz

Beanitos Hint of Lime White Bean Chips, 2- 1.2 oz bags – Buy a 6 oz bag for $3.69 (found here for $3.19)

Made primarily of navy beans, these bean chips have 5g of protein and a ton of fiber. They taste great with a bold nacho flavor and a nice crunch. My daughter said they look and taste just like the “real thing”!

Mom’s Score: 8/10

Daughter’s Score: 10/10

Garden of Life Chocolate Sea Salt Gol Bar, 2.11 oz

Garden of Life Chocolate Sea Salt Gol Bar, 2.11 oz – Buy a box of 12 bars for $29.88 (found here for $20.92)

I am admittingly not a big fan of protein bars, but chocolate and sea salt are one of my favorite taste combinations. This bar boasts 12g of milk protein, cashews, dates, chocolate and sea salt. I was excited to try it but all I could taste is chocolate – the cashews and sea salt was nowhere to be found!

Mom’s Score: 5/10

Daughter’s Score: Null (nut allergy)

Garden of Life Maple Sea Salt Gol Bar, 2.11 oz –

Garden of Life Maple Sea Salt Gol Bar, 2.11 oz – Buy a box of 12 bars for $29.88 (found here for $20.92)

This bar has the same ingredients as the above bar if you swap out the chocolate for maple. I don’t like anything maple flavored. Nope, not even syrup! I did suffer through a taste test and it wasn’t too bad. The maple flavor is not overwhelming.

Mom’s Score: Null (unfair assessment)

Daughter’s Score: Null (nut allergy)

Don’t Go Nuts Gorilla Power Bar, 1.26 oz

Don’t Go Nuts Gorilla Power Bar, 1.26 oz – Buy a box of 12 bars for $21.48

I was so excited to find a nut-free bar included in this month's box! This organic chewy granola bar is small but packed tight with chocolate chips. My daughter said it tastes like “honey and chocolate mixed together” and did a happy dance! I did enjoy the taste but with such a small portion, I couldn’t be trusted to just eat one.

Mom’s Score: 7/10

Daughter’s Score: 10/10

Herbaland Fantastic Fruit Protein Gummies, 10g

Herbaland Fantastic Fruit Protein Gummies, 10g – Buy 1, 50g pack for $2.80

I can't figure out if this is intended to be a snack or a supplement! These gummies have a 28g of vegan fiber, 10g of protein and only 1g of sugar. Herbaland suggests taking 1 50g pack of day. The box included a 10g sample size. The fantastic fruit flavor is great but we both hated the textured. To me, the texture was chalky, and my daughter said it tasted “furry”.

Mom’s Score: 5/10

Daughter’s Score: 2/10

Goodie Girl Cookies Midnight Brownie Bites, 1oz

Goodie Girl Cookies Midnight Brownie Bites, 1oz – Buy a box of 35 bags for $35.95

These taste far better than they look! They are gluten-free, peanut free and incredibly delicious. The tiny 1oz, 120 calorie bag, contains a very small number of cookies. Again, I couldn’t trust myself to eat just one. I need a bigger bag of these ASAP. My daughter agrees and is most impressed that the snack “smells like a real brownie”!

Mom’s Score: 9/10

Daughter’s Score: 10/10

Watusee Foods Caramel Sea Salt Chickpeatos, 0.8 oz

Watusee Foods Caramel Sea Salt Chickpeatos, 0.8 oz – Buy a case of 36 bags for $54

I was 100% sure this snack would not be delicious. Baked green pea and chickpea puffs in a caramel sea salt flavor, no way! A perfect balance of sweet and salty, these Chickpeatos won’t last long in our house. They are so good!

Mom’s Score: 10/10

Daughter’s Score: 10/10

Nature’s Bakery Pomegranate Fig Bar, 2 oz –

Nature’s Bakery Pomegranate Fig Bar, 2 oz – Buy a case of 36 bars for $33.69

I love Fig Bar! I ate them by the case when I was pregnant with my daughter and I haven't found a flavor yet that I don't enjoy. These were no exception! And, at only 100 calories and no high fructose corn syrup, I can easily see myself giving these to my kiddos guilt-free. A little goes a long way as I find them super sweet. 1 bar is more than enough.

Mom’s Score: 10/10

Daughter’s Score: 8/10

Pizootz Blazing Buffalo Artisan Peanuts, 1.45 oz – Buy a 16oz box for $19.95

These peanuts took me by surprise! I thought they would simply be buffalo flavored peanuts, but these huge premium Virginia peanuts are much more than that. They are infused! You can taste the flavor throughout the entire peanut. It’s such a bold flavor with just the right amount of heat. I really enjoyed these!

Mom’s Score: 10/10

Daughter’s Score: Null (nut allergy)

Wai Lana Sea Salt Cassava Pops, 0.8oz

Wai Lana Sea Salt Cassava Pops, 0.8oz – Retail Value $1.39 (found here for $0.97)

I enjoy the taste of Yuca, so I wanted to try these pops first. They are sea salt flavored, so I expected them to be salty but they we quite sweet – like the sweetness of kettle corn popcorn. The ingredients list says it includes cane sugar. The added sweetness is likely what earned raved reviews from my daughter. She wanted to eat the whole bag. At only 100 calories, I was happy to oblige.

Mom’s Score: 7/10

Daughter’s Score: 10/10

Saffron Road Caramel Crunchy Chickpeas, 4.5 oz

Saffron Road Caramel Crunchy Chickpeas, 4.5 oz – Retail Value $4.69 (found here for $3.49)

These chickpeas claim to be roasted to crunchy perfection and swirled in salted caramel. A ¼ cup serving is only 130 calories and because it’s bursting with flavor, just a small amount will satisfy any sweet tooth. We really enjoyed this snack.

Mom’s Score: 9/10

Daughter’s Score: 10/10

The Verdict: Thanks to SnackSack, we’ve found new and healthy snacks to add to our pantry! Of all the snacks in this August box, my daughter enjoyed the Cassava Pops the best. My favorite, by far, was the Blazing Buffalo Peanuts. I didn’t expect the Chickpeatos to taste good so those were the most surprising to me and my daughter still can’t believe the Beanitos are made of navy beans. We thoroughly enjoyed this snack box and appreciate the variety of items and flavors included. This further confirms for us that snacks can both taste good and be good for you!
