Oxford Momma "Strength" July 2018 Review

The theme for the July box is “strength” and the box contained 5 items intended to make you feel stronger, inside and out. This month, there wasn't a card detailing the items, instead of the enclosed card simply directed you to go to oxfordmomma.com/july to learn more about how you can incorporate these items into your busy day. Unfortunately, as of publication, the site was still “coming soon” – I’m sure that that will resolve itself in the coming days!

Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay: And Other Things I Had to Learn as a New Mom by Stefanie Wilder-Taylor

Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay: And Other Things I Had to Learn as a New Mom by Stefanie Wilder-Taylor – MSRP $15.00 (found here for $5.09)

This is an adorable book for new or expectant moms. But, I do feel that it’s not on the mark for the Oxford Momma box in the sense that this box is supposed to be for all moms, not just new moms. Since I have a toddler, have made it past the infant stages, and feel I could write my own witty novel on the subject – I’ll be passing this along at the next baby shower I attend. My best friend is expecting, and I know she’ll get a kick out of it!

From Amazon:

This straight-talking and wickedly funny parenting guide are a must-have for new moms trying to weed through all that other “expert” advice.

The moment the second line on the pee stick turns pink, women discover they've entered a world of parenting experts.

Friends, family, colleagues, the UPS delivery guy—suddenly everybody is a trove of advice, much of it contradictory and confusing. With dire warnings of what will happen if the baby is fed on demand and even direr warnings of what will happen if he isn't, not to mention hordes of militant "lactivists,” cosleeping advocates, and books on what to worry about next, modern parenthood can seem like a minefield.

In busy Mom-friendly short essays, Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay delivers the empathetic straight dirt on parenting, tackling everything from Mommy & Me classes (“Your baby doesn't need to be making friends at three months old—you do! But not with people you'll meet at Mommy & Me”) to attachment parenting (“If you're holding your baby 24/7, that's not a baby, that's a tumor”). Stefanie Wilder-Taylor combines practical tips with sidesplitting humor and refreshing honesty, assuring women that they can be good mothers and responsibly make their own choices. A witty and welcome antidote to trendy parenting texts and scarifying case studies, Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay provides genuine support, encouragement, and indispensable common-sense advice.

Fresh Feet Wipes (25 count) –

Fresh Feet Wipes (25 count) – Estimated Value $5.83 (buy 6 for $35.00)

These feet wipes smell so nice! They're very heavily scented of refreshing peppermint and will certainly come in handy as my son runs around outside in the grass without shoes on all summer. There are 25 wipes included in this little package, and I love that they are 100% natural, alcohol-free, and contain aloe + vitamin E.

Some Essentials Lavender Lotion Bar – Retail Value $9.99

Contains: Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Almond Oil, Beeswax, and Essential Oils

I’m a huge fan of lavender, and this natural lotion bar delivers a natural soothing scent. To use, you simply graze against your skin to apply a thin layer of the product. It’s non-greasy and very luxe feeling. This bar is 3.2 oz and measures about 3"x2"x1". I also like that you can cut it into smaller chunks and put into any tin or container you have on hand to keep in your handbag.

The Art of Relaxation: 20 Postcards by Lark Crafts

The Art of Relaxation: 20 Postcards by Lark Crafts – MSRP $7.95 (found here for $4.17)

I’m really into adult coloring (I do this during conference calls to help me pay attention – I find that keeping my hands off of the keyboard and doing something mindless actually helps me focus more on what’s being said and makes me more productive at work). I also love sending postcards to my friends, so I was excited to get this little book! It contains 20 postcards, each with a different intricate pattern – this will take me quite a while to work my way through!

Toe Talk Inhale & Exhale Dandelion Winds Comfy White Socks with Grips –Retail Value $12

These socks are one site, medium weight – cushioned comfort and are made of very breathable material. They are soft and have a ton of grippies on the bottom. I found them really comfortable and will add them to my rotation!

I wear a 7.5 shoe size, and I found that they fit me really well. I would suggest that a woman with a larger foot (think 9+) would think these were a bit on the small side.

The Verdict: This is the third box that I received from Oxford Momma, and it’s a bit different than some of the other’s that I’ve received. It had less literature, most notably it did not contain a card about the included items. I liked that I was able to find all of the items online, and it wasn’t “private label” stuff – and I also like the assortment, quality, and the usability of the items. It’s a fun box to get and feels like a little treat!

From my calculations, this box has a total estimated value of $50.77 and the box costs $39.99, including free shipping. I think that's fair (not great) in the value department, and I realize that this subscription box is more about self-care and mental health than receiving high-end products at a steep discount. It is within the promised value of $50-$70, and I'm happy with the items.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box will be the August box, shipped the first week of August.

This is so bad because this is not for all mom’s. I would never buy this box now. Why would they send that book?
