OnyxBox August 2018 “A Tour Of Africa” Review
Each box comes with an info card with a beautiful illustration on the front of the card and the back of the card, the contents of the box and their prices. The theme for August is “A Tour of Africa.” This month’s box concludes the summer “Travel Series” of beauty products, We Are Onyx took us to Brazil in June, July was all about travel tips and this month they take us to Africa, enjoy. The beautiful illustration on the front of the info card and inside the box is by VG Waymer. The box design is black with the mpatapo symbol on top of the box which is an adinkra sign of peace and unity.
Noyah African Nights Lipstick – Retail Value $18.00
Every woman needs a red lipstick for those special occasions or when you want to be fierce and bold. I own a variety of red lipstick shades, and this hue is slightly different from what I own. The lipstick, for the most part, lasted the majority of the day, and it wasn’t moisturizing. Its all natural (no sulfates, parabens, or phthalates) has a semi-matte, cream finish with 60% earth-friendly bamboo packaging, not tested on animals, and made in the USA.
I received a full-size lipstick in color African nights.
NCLA Designer Nail Wraps – Listed Value $18.00
These nail wraps are exclusive to this box and Kente is a pattern native to Ghana which is the birthplace of the co-founder Delali. The kit has twenty-six nail wraps and a mini file. I must admit I’m reluctant to try on my short nails as it probably would be a hot mess of me attempting to adhere to my fingernails. I tend to polish my toes and have clear polish on my nails, plus I’m trying to get them to grow again. I will attempt when my nails are longer.
Here is a photo of the nail wraps courtesy of We Are Onyx.
African Black Soap Exfoliant Spot Treatment – Retail Value $12.99
This African black soap exfoliant spot treatment intends to clear apparent blemishes and obviate future breakouts. Some of the ingredients include aloe vera, oats, and vitamin E.
Unfortunately, I tend to get blemishes when I’m stressed and haven’t had a breakout in a while so; I will save for when the time comes. Subscribers either received the facial toner or exfoliant spot treatment.
From Nubian Heritage:
After cleansing, apply a thin layer to affected area(s) once per day. If dryness or irritation occurs, reduce application to every other day.
Here’s the applicator tip up-close.
OUiGLO Rich Collagen Face Mask, 2-pack – Estimated Value $6.00 (buy a 5-pack for $15.00)
I love sheet masks so whenever I receive them in a subscription box, I’m happy! I received two facial sheet masks made of collagen, licorice, apricot, cucumber, and grapefruit. OUi GLO doesn’t use sulfate detergents, parabens, DEA or UREA and they don’t test on animals. These sheet masks intend to moisturize, brighten, nourish, firm and tone my face, as well tighten my pores and control the oil on my face. I applied the sheet mask on my face for twenty minutes, and the mask fits firmly on my face without slipping, and I absorbed the excess essence into my skin. My skin does well with sheet masks, and I haven’t had a bad reaction, so far. The sheet mask worked well and no noticeable difference after using just a clean face.
Almond Marshmallow Hydration Serum, 2 ounces – Estimated Value $2.25 (buy an 8 fl oz. bottle for $8.99)
This hydration serum intends to smooth out tattered hair and split ends as well as nourish dry, brittle hair from the harsh eliminates and harmful heat damage.
Almond Marshmallow Therapy Leave-In Conditioner 2 ounces – Estimated Value $2.25 (buy an 8 fl oz. bottle for $8.99)
This leave-in conditioner is safe for color-treated, chemically treated, and natural hair, that intends to rid my hair of split ends and hair damage. I will use this to treat my damaged hair. I can’t speak to the effectiveness since I only used a couple of times and with hair products, it takes time to see results. This subscription tends to send well know hair products in their boxes to keep our tresses looking good.
Enclosed is an info card about Almond Marshmallow products from Eden BodyWorks.
The Verdict: This month’s box has a value of $59.49, which is double the cost of the box. Lately,We Are Onyx Beauty Boxes have been around the $55 value range. Hopefully, the value will increase, and a “hero” item will be included, such as a cult favorite or a luxury beauty product that’s a must have or newly released. This box ends the travel series for the summer, and I received products for my face, lips, body, hair, and nails all items to keep me sun-kissed, bold, and fierce.
I look forward to the themes for fall and hopefully a hero item and a value that triples the cost of the box. My favorite items in this box are the lipstick and facial sheet masks. We Are Onyx sends the best quality beauty products each month. So, if you’re looking for an inexpensive WOC subscription box with the majority of the products full size, this is the box for you!
