Lavish Bath Box July 2018 "90's Throwback" Review

Lavish July info sheet 1

Lavish July info sheet 2

This month’s box arrived later than usual due to an inventory mishap and some customs delays. One thing I really appreciate about Lavish is that subscriber boxes were sent out first, and bloggers received the delayed boxes. I think that is a great way for a company to show they put their subscribers first!

Lavish July starla 1 Lavish July starla 2 Lavish July starla 3

Belles Soaps Etc Starla Bath Bomb - Retail Value $5.50

Starla was a rock star! This bath bomb is scented with juicy peaches and vanilla (so delicious) and when it hit the water streams of yellow, blue, and purple shot out. The end result was some gorgeous bath art that I almost didn’t want to ruin by climbing into the tub.

Lavish July starla 4 Lavish July starla 5

Along with the colors this bath foamed up beautifully once it hit the water, which I believe is the “bubbling” aspect of the bath bomb.

Lavish July dose 1 Lavish July dose 2 Lavish July dose 3 Lavish July dose 4

Dose Bath Co 90’s Kids Whipped Soap - Retail Value $7

This whipped soap is not only fluffy and pretty colors, it also smells JUST like a big bowl of fruit loops--I could not believe my nose when I smelled it the first time! This soap is also loaded with Vitamin E and grapeseed oil to pack on the hydration while cleansing your skin, and my skin felt great after using.

Lavish July hair bands

Elastic Hair Bandz Tie-dye Hair Bands - Retail Value $4

Can we really throw it back to the 90’s without some tie-dye? These hair bands are perfect for holding your hair out of your face before you apply a face mask and climb into a bath, but these aren’t going to stay put for longer than that unless you secure them with some bobby pins.

Lavish July pebbles 1 Lavish July pebbles 2

Lavish Bath Co Fruity Loops Bath Pebbles, 4 oz – Estimated Value $8.50 (buy the 8-ounce version here for $16.95)

Along with fruit loops, fruity pebbles were another favorite! These bath pebbles COMBINE the two amazing kinds of cereal to look like fruity pebbles while smelling like fruit loops, and they created some great bubbles for a bubble bath to boot. Big fan of these.

Lavish July sunglasses 1 Lavish July sunglasses 2

Luxe Bleu Party Like 1999 Bubble Bar - Estimated Value $8

This bubble bar is so gorgeous! The rainbow colors are beautiful to look at and the scent is a mixture of vanilla, strawberries, and jasmine. This did create a bit of a mess when crumbling because the black pigment used to outline the sunglasses got all over my hands, but hey—I was climbing into a bath, after all. These made good bubbles on their own but I really enjoyed mixing them with the bath pebbles—it basically made my bathtub smell like a cereal bowl and I was the prize inside.

Lavish July swoon 1 Lavish July swoon 2 Lavish July swoon 3

Crescent City Swoon Neon Rave Body Butter - Estimated Value $8

This body butter is a Lavish exclusive, so the estimated value is from my general bath and body subscription box knowledge. This body butter was creamy and hydrating, but it didn’t leave me greasy. Crescent City Swoon is a New Orleans-based bath company (they’re only an hour away from me!), and they also have their own subscription box (review coming soon)! I was a bit young to be going to raves in the 90’s (I was born in 1994), but this body butter fits in perfectly with the box theme!

The Verdict: Lavish is such a fun bath box to receive every month! As I continue to receive boxes from Lavish, I really appreciate the artisan products from small brands that are chosen to be included. Because of that, however, the value of this box will never be much higher than the cost of the box itself. This month I calculated a value of $41, which is more than the $38.95 cost of the box but not higher than the cost of the box plus shipping, which is $6.99. I do think the curation is worth that few extra dollars, so if that is something you can appreciate I cannot recommend this box enough.

The Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you still sign up today? You will receive the September box!

I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Jessica,

As you seem like a bath product expert, of all the bath/spa boxes available, which one is your favorite??

I really want to get one, but I’m overwhelmed with the choices out there! I would prefer to be under $100/month.
I’m sincerely thankful for any help!

I’ve gotten this the last few months and keep wanting to cancel because it’s a little pricey for me, but then I keep it because it is just a really great bath box. Great curation and mix of bath items.

I just got my August Lavish Bath box and it’s AMAZING!!! Much more ” fierce” than this box … Not a single round bath bomb ( so over those) and the theme is jungle- themed.

I don’t know how much other people love high quality hand made bath products but this is an A++ Winner for me and I think it’s totally worth the $40 price.

Hint- there’s a coiled green SNAKE bath bomb and a lion and a box so full I had to take the shredded paper out to get the beautiful items back into the box. YAY!!
SMELLS HEAVENLY!!

Jessica, Jessica, Jessica….I’m seriously going to HAVE to stop reading your reviews!! I clicked on the link you included for Crescent City Swoon just to see their products and ended up subscribing to their subscription box!!! Their products, especially their bath bombs look fabulous and I’m excited to receive my first box!! Now that I subscribe to several bath and body subscription boxes I’m going to have to find more time for baths each month…oh, the problems…😉 Seriously though thanks for the heads up about Crescent City Swoon!

I’ve subbed to Lavish for several months now and I always love the items that I receive!! Although the individual items don’t exceed the price of the box + shipping this month, you have to take into consideration that if you ordered these items on your own you’d have to pay shipping for each item…which definitely gets costly! This is one of my favorite subs and I always get excited when I open my mailbox and see this box inside. My only issue is that some of these products are almost just too cute to use…

As much as I want that Bubble Bar and how fun this box looks whenever the box gets reviewed, I just don’t see myself spending $40+ monthly. I wish they would either think of doing a smaller box or reduce the cost. As thoughtful and creative as the curation and products are, it’s just not worth it.

Try buying these products individually and you end up paying more for all the shipping each individual company charges. I thought the same thing about the price till I did my research. It is a splurge though I will admit! Also I got sent the wrong box from what I requested and Katie, the owner, sent me the right one on the house. AMAZING customer service!!

This is a great box but really overpriced for what it is. If it cost more like $25-30 plus free shipping, than it would be more attractive. As of now the cost is close to $50, and we know here what kind of awesome boxes you can get for that much money.

If you click the link to crescent city swoon they have that size body butter just in a different scent for $9.95 which not much difference in price but when you really need to stretch it to get closer to the cost of the box even $2 will help.

I wish this was in my budget. It is just too pricey for me. That said, I do think it is worth the cost of the box. The products always look incredible! I wonder if they would ever consider doing a smaller box as well. Like, quirky crate does the regular box and then the small one which is much cheaper but contains few products. I would spend $15-20 on a box that contained 2-3 products from these brands!

Agreed! I would love to try a smaller box!
