Dollar Tea Club August 2018 Review

Dollar Tea Club also offers honey sticks, spoons for measuring tea, infusers, and other fun accessories, in addition to tea. There wasn’t an information card, but the tea packages themselves contain plenty of information on ingredients, brewing temperatures, etc.

3 Disposable Filter Bags – Add 10 filters to your subscription for $1.75/month

These have wide mouths, which means they are easy to fill, but the drawstring makes sure they don’t start dumping their contents in your cup. They are unbleached and disposable (but biodegradable), too. You’ll get three each month with your subscription but it’s easy to add more if you want.

Blueberry Blast (0.22 oz)

Blueberry Blast (0.22 oz) – Add 15-25 cups to your subscription for $8/month

I didn’t actually see many blueberry pieces here, but I could taste them! This is a rooibos tea, which works quite nicely with the blueberry (and is caffeine free). I tried this hot, but the Dollar Tea Club website also suggests this will work nicely for iced tea.

Periodically Pain-Less (0.22 oz)

Periodically Pain-Less (0.22 oz) – Add 15-25 cups to your subscription for $8/month

This tea has some ingredients that are supposed to relieve symptoms associated with PMS and menstruation (though they don’t use those exact words on the product page). I can’t really test that since I had a hysterectomy last year, but I did try it. The overwhelming flavor is licorice and this also has anise seed, which just adds to the licorice flavor. So, I’m not a big fan of this one, as I just don’t care for licorice in tea (or anywhere else, really). This also has green mate so it is caffeinated, ginger which may calm the stomach, and a few other spice ingredients like cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom.

Tarzan and Jane (0.22 oz) – Add 15-25 cups to your subscription for $8/month

This was another one I really enjoyed. It was a mix of green and black tea (I saw mostly the green when I looked at the leaves before brewing) and tons of fruity goodness like papaya, raisins, orange peel, and apricots. And, unlike some teas with dried fruits, you actually do notice the flavor coming out of the dried fruit (or perhaps that is the included flavoring?). At any rate, seeing as this was caffeinated, it was probably my favorite of the month.

Verdict: For $1 plus $3 in shipping, I am happy. (As you can see from the first image, nearly all of that shipping cost is spent on postage; the rest is probably for the envelope.)

There is enough tea here to get, by my estimate, at least 9 cups, so it works out to less than 50 cents per cup, which is right in line with other premium loose leaf teas. Everything was high quality, too, with identifiable ingredients and robust flavor. If you like to drink a little tea now and then or are thinking about getting into it, Dollar Tea Club is a good (and inexpensive) way to try a few things and see what you like without getting overwhelmed.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your recurring shipment will be sent within about 3 business days of your payment being processed so it’s possible, depending on when you sign up.

  1. I am using this and wanted to add more filters to my next shipment, but when I went to log in, it says I don’t exist. None of my emails exist so I am not sure how I have an account that doesn’t exist, and yet am still being billed and receiving packages. Now I’m not complaining, I want to keep receiving the tea,and I like them but I’d like to amend my account as guaranteed and can’t seem to get any response from the company. So that’s a huge thumbs down for me. I’m sad to cancel my subscription when I eventually can, but I just can’t trust them.

  2. I just cancelled this sub last month due to too much repetition, but they were charging me $4 up to July. I’m on the west coast. I did like their blends alot but i wanted to try something new so went with simple lose leaf tea.

  3. I have subscribed for 4 months, I am only charged $4 and then a .10 cent international transaction fee from my bank. I absolutely love it, at that price…. I agree 100% on the licorice tea, I’m not a licorice fan either and I have gotten that tea twice in 4 mos. I just give it to a coworker. The apricot black/green is sooo god, I added a full size of that one to my monthly sub. The blueberry one was not for me either…. It was the first time I tried a rooibos tea so I’m not sure if I’m just not a fan of that, or the other flavors. For $4 a month I love just trying new teas… I can usually get 4 cups out of each packet… 2 bags steaped a second time each.

  4. This looked good for $4! But note that when I went to sign up, it was charging me $4.95 shipping and handling to my address in California (not $3 as Ragan quotes), so that makes each cup of tea about 50% more expensive 🙁

    • I just had the same thing happen, and the site clearly says the shipping for the Explorer pack is $3.00 for a total of $4.00 per month. I have 2 premium tea subscriptions and was looking forward to a fun budget one.

I didn’t subscribe because they are adding a ” handling” charge which isn’t spelled out in their terms of sale.
Really great review, as always, Ragan! 🙂

    • When I went to check out it added $4.75 shipping before I even put an address in – no change when I put in my Connecticut address. Where is it only $3 to!? $4 vs $6 isn’t a big difference, but whereas $4 seems reasonable for tea samples, $6 starts to feel a little high.

      • I did some poking around. The FAQ says shipping is $3, but if you ask their chatbot, it says “Shipping anywhere in the United States and Canada is only $4.75.”

So somewhere along the line they must have raised the shipping but forgot to update the FAQ.

      • Yes the shipping is $4.75 to New Mexico as well. I am not really a tea drinker but since I chose the Tea Pot from FabFitFun I thought why not try some tea, but am going to pass.

      • It has been awhile since I reviewed this one. I think they must’ve changed the shipping rate. I will update that number if they send me a box to review in the future. Postage from Canada to the US is actually really expensive for some reason.

      • The shipping for me is only $3, but I Am in Canada. Maybe that is where the difference comes from? I’m also charged in Canadian dollars, so if it is the same for US customers it might be less than $4.75 USD

      • I emailed Dollar Tea Club and they confirmed that their shipping costs recently increased to $4.75.
