Bombay & Cedar "Focus" Box Review July 2018
The box comes with a booklet of information with details about the brands/products in the box, plus other bits and pieces around the theme of "focus".
There's also a more standard info card, which features the product list for the box. Note that I'm reviewing the premium box, meaning I should have received everything on this product list. Mini box subscribers will receive everything but for the last 3 items on the list. (They'll also get a bonus sample by FEEL!)
Each box comes with two proprietary 100% pure essential oil blends. Let's check out what ones I got this month!
Juniper Berry Essential Oil, 10 ml - Listed Value $16.00
This rich, piney oil smells like the inside of a log cabin at holiday time. According to the accompanying card, it supports all kinds of things from stomach issues, arthritis pain, and more.
Sweet Basil Essential Oil, 10 ml - Listed Value $10.00
This essential oil smells just like the name suggests, but because it's so rich, I also picked up on the more nuanced aromas hidden in basil (like mintiness and even a subtle anise smell). The oil is supposed to help with digestion, colds, asthma, and more!
Peace Putty Morning Focus Aromatherapy Putty, 4 oz. - Listed Value $14.00
If you're a fan of the whole slime trend, you'll like this therapeutic putty! This blue blend isn't just fun and stress relieving to smush around in your hands—it also is imbued with lemon, basil, and rosemary essential oils to help soothe the mind, too. The other putties from this company go for about $7.50, but this one, which is a collab between Peace Putty and this subscription box, is listed on the card for about twice that.
Eat Your Coffee Bar in Salted Caramel Macchiato, 1.6 oz. - Listed Value $2.50
Subscribers will have received one of three flavors of this bar. Mine has a mild caramel flavor but it's the roasted, rich, coffee flavor that pops out the most! The bar has a chewy, soft consistency that reminded me of a Larabar, with itty bitty chunks of dates, oats, almond butter, and more sprinkled in each bite. This bar certainly does pack a punch, too! I think eating my coffee might have even more oomph than drinking it!
Mangiacotti Hand Sanitizer Spray, 0.5 fl oz. - Retail Value $6.50, Listed Value $6.49
I like the idea of carrying hand sanitizer with me, but the yucky chemical smell and drying effects of mainstream sanitizers is the WORST! This pocket-sized spritz on the other hand, is alcohol-free and kills germs with the power of essential oils. The aroma is pretty powerful, but I have so much more patience for sweet pomegranate and papaya fragrance than weird chemicals. Plus, my hands feel sooo soft after using it, rather than parched.
Work Life by Molly Erman - Retail Value $20.00 (Found here for $13.59)
This book is filled with colorful illustrations and handy hints for getting through all your work and life obligations with grace, focus, and balance. I love the modern, fresh style of the art, but I feel like it'd be best appreciated by a younger gal getting set to start her first job. I'm hanging on to this as a future gift!
Book Summary on Amazon:
In the modern workplace, corner offices and water coolers have given way to open layouts and office dogs. But while the workplace itself is changing, what it takes to be a good employee and reliable coworker remains steadfast. From maximizing your productivity to navigating office dating and communal kitchens, Work Life is a handbook for the modern office―whatever yours looks like.
Sphynx 3-in-1 Portable Razor - Retail Value $15.00
So I'm going on a trip to the mountains at the end of this month, which will entail 1) being on a plane and 2) living in a cabin for a week. This tool is PERFECT for that occasion—in one easy-to-hold disc, you get two razors, a pre-shave bar, and a spritzer bottle that you can fill with water for easy lathering. How genius is that?!
Just spin the little dial at the center of the device to flip between functions. I got the black, which I love, but there are other brighter colors that subscribers may have received. I love that I can just toss this TSA-friendly device into my bag and go.
It's in this box because of how easily it can be kept in an office desk drawer for moments when you notice that 6" strip of hairs you totally missed while shaving that morning. But for me, it's going to be my BEST friend on this trip. (Even if someone's hogging the bathroom, I can still get my shave on!) There's even a link to get replacement blades, so I can reuse it over and over!
Feel Refreshed Hydrating Floral Mist, 4 fl. oz. - Retail Value $32.00
I've been considering adding a toner to my routine! This mist has natural ingredients, including lavender, ivy, aloe, cucumber, licorice, kelp, and more. I found it really soothing and refreshing, though I didn't pick up on any particular fragrance. According to the package, this can be used on clean skin as a toner (which is how I've been enjoying it) or on top of makeup as a setting spray. Oh, and did I mention it includes hyaluronic acid? My dry skin loves that moisturizing ingredient!
Terre Mere Matte Lipstick in Latin Lover, 0.14 oz. - Retail Value $34.00
After what feels like a year of getting nude lipsticks in subscription boxes almost exclusively, I am THRILLED to receive this bright, red-orange matte lipstick! I'm so-so on reds UNLESS they have an orange tone to them, as that flatters my complexion the best. This red is such a winner for me. Plus, it's creamy going on and has decent staying power (though it will smush off if I'm eating or drinking a bunch). The matte finish is nice without looking dry (or feeling dry, more importantly).
Verdict: I was really happy with the products I got in this month's box! The mini box items were cute, but I think the deluxe goodies—the razor, the face mist, and the lipstick—were the big winners for me. Putting the essential oils into my office diffuser has helped my tricky sinuses feel soothed, which automatically makes the rest of me feel at ease. As usual, the performance and quality of the items I got from this subscription felt great, and I liked the unique brands I got to try!
To Wrap Up:
