ZenPop Ramen + Sweets Mix Pack June 2018 Review

This box comes with an info sheet that explains everything included, and I really appreciate having the English translation describing what I was I was about to eat.

Pokemon Shoyu Noodles

Pokemon Shoyu Noodles

This smelled really good. The broth reminded me of a savory soup, which I think is nice for instant ramen. I was so surprised after I took off the lid and saw ACTUAL PIKACHU FACES staring back at me. The texture of Pikachus face left something to be desired, but the novelty made the tradeoff worth it. The noodles were a bit thin for my taste, but that did result in great slurping.

Wonton Noodles

I forgot to take a photo of this ramen when I made it for lunch at work, but they were tasty! I thought the noodles had great texture, and the broth had a nice taste without being too salty. Winner!

Pokemon Kari Pori

I am not fully sure what these are, but I think they were my favorite item in the box. They reminded me of American pop rocks in stick form—they weren’t as fizzy, but they were delightful! I would love to get my hands on more of these, and I also enjoyed the cute pokemon on the packaging.

Dragon Ball Illustration Gum

This gum comes with a poster, and while I am not a Dragon Ball Z fan I still thought this was nifty! This gum was really sweet- to be honest, I ate it like candy rather than chewing it for a while. I wish this big outer package had more inner gum, however.

Super Mario Gummy

These were so good! The red gummies were cola flavored, and I think the blue may have been lemon-lime? Either way, these had a great texture and I gobbled these up.

Chocobi

Basically, if I see that a Japanese snack is described as a corn puff I am going to love it. These chocolate flavored corn puffs were no exception—the taste reminded me of the milk in your cereal bowl after eating chocolate cereal. It was delicious, and the included sticker was a nice touch!

Anpanman Apple Gummy

These were so interesting! I loved the apple flavor, and as I was eating them I contemplated the lack of apple-flavored gummies offered in America. These were more firm than your average gummy, but they weren’t stale. The only thing preventing them from being a home run was the wax paper that was stuck to the gummies that I couldn’t peel off. Full disclosure… after several attempts to get the wax paper off, I decided to try chewing the gummy regardless… AND THE WAX PAPER DISSOLVED. I wish I understood a little more Japanese so I could find out more information on these!Thomas Soda Gummy

Thomas Soda Gummy

These didn’t really taste like soda I am familiar with, but I liked them regardless. These were the softest gummies in the box, and I loved seeing Thomas the Train gummies in this box.

Ninja Fuwa-maru Salt

These were lightly salty chips that were very soft and airy. Personally, I could have used more crunch, but the back note umami flavor thanks to the kelp and bonito was really nice. It was easy to devour this entire bag while watching tv (not that I did that or anything).

Hello Kitty Chocolate Marshmallow

I thought this was super delicious—the marshmallow was fluffy and the chocolate tasted great. The combination reminded me of hot chocolate, which was an awesome experience.

The Verdict: I think this is the best box I have received from ZenPop yet! Every single snack was delicious, and I would happily eat all of them again. Part of the fun of this subscription is trying new snacks from Japan, but it’s a real bonus to enjoy each one!

  1. The “wax paper” was most likely edible rice paper.

  2. Thank you for the review. It looks like a found a birthday present for son!

    • Ugh, I meant “looks like I found”

    • Sounds like a great gift! I hope he enjoys- I know I do!
