June 2018 #deathcabforcutie VNYL Review

This month I went with the #deathcabforcutie vibe – I really wanted to revisit an album I hadn’t listened to in quite a while, and I think had only listened through just once!

It comes with a handwritten note from your personal curator to give some thought and detail behind the selections.

Instead of the theme sticker – we got a VNYL sticker again – this might be the new standard.

Death Cab For Cutie – Narrow Stairs

By 2008, I had pretty much stopped paying attention to what Death Cab for Cutie was putting out there. I was really into (and still am!) Transatlanticism and Plans – and really into The Postal Service album, but by the time this album came out, I think I only listened to it once and simply moved on. It’s about time that I revisit it!

The packaging itself is pretty nice – it has little cutouts where these liner notes can peek through.

The album is definitely a lot better than I remembered in 2008, with Cath still being my favorite tune on the album.

Soccer Mommy – Clean

I’ve been picking artist-specific themes for the past two months and found that it’s the perfect mix for me. I get one known album that I’m interested in + 2 mystery records. I’ve been enjoying it better than the 3 mystery record packages.

This is a great example of something awesome just sneaking up on me from this subscription. Clean is so straight-forward, cutting, and downright beautiful!

I hadn’t listened, or even heard of Soccer Mommy, up to now – but this album is great if you’re looking to just sit back and take it easy.

The Walkmen – You & Me

When I chose to revisit Narrow Stairs, I didn’t think I’d be getting a second old friend to revisit!

A few months after getting into this album, I was able to see them live at Stubbs in Austin which pretty much cemented this album in my memory – but I haven’t popped it on in quite a bit. Unsurprisingly, I enjoyed spinning this one front-to-back.

Verdict: This month was another success for me! I really enjoyed all three selections, and 2 were albums that I would have picked up in a store and will definitely listen to multiple times. I’ve liked picking artist themes lately, it takes a little risk out of your pick – so far, so good.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? This subscription is customized to your music preferences. While you may select the same ‘vibe’ as me, you likely won’t receive the same three albums as I do.
