KitNipBox July 2018 Review

KitNipBox has monthly themes. Around holidays, they are holiday themes, but you can never predict what it’ll be at other times:

The information card included a list of items in the box. They included values and I have used a lot of these below because KitNipBox toys can be hard to find for sale online. This month has an alien/space travel theme.

Safemade Intergalactic Alien Pet

Safemade Intergalactic Alien Pet – Listed Value $5

This is a catnip plush that’s on the large side, but the most interesting thing about this to my cats is the raffia sticking out of it where arms and legs would be. Several kitties (Mr. Kitty included) chewed on that, but it seems firmly attached.

All for Paws Wood and Feather Chase and Play Balls – Listed Value $5

Sneaky wanted to bite the leather and Angus wanted to bite the feathers so I am going to have to keep an eye on this one (probably this is a “supervised play only” toy for my kitties). There is also an element of sound as the wood balls knock together.

LEAP Space Mice Three Pack

LEAP Space Mice Three Pack – Listed Value $3

These are simple, small catnip mice, but sometimes my cats like the cheapest toys the best. Especially Angus, who manages to dredge up catnip mice I haven’t even seen for like five years. Angus has already had fun with these – I have seen them move from where I left them.

All for Paws Rocket Toss Toy – Listed Value $6

This is another large-ish catnip plush. My cats found the “flames” at the bottom the most interesting part. This is probably another “supervised play only” toy for my crew as there is some risk of Sneaky eating the ribbons while I am not watching. Mr. Kitty liked investigating this as well.

All for Paws Astrocat Kicker

All for Paws Astrocat Kicker – Listed Value $5

This is a catnip plush “kicker” type toy. I used to think my cats didn’t like kickers and then Angus came along. He plays with toys that look like they’re bigger than he is! This isn’t that large (see it next to Mr. Kitty below for some scale) but Angus has managed to do some wrestling with it already. Monkey seems interested in the fabric texture of the outside of this (Monkey is very into licking fabrics…).

Wellness Kittles in Whitefish and Cranberries – Retail Value $2.49 (found here for $2.37)

These are grain-free treats. They’re crunchy and small and come in a resealable bag. Bonus: they don’t smell strongly of fish. Angus, Madison, and Sneaky were all fans.

Shooting Star Wand

Shooting Star Wand – Listed Value $7

This was the clear winner from this box. Sneaky had a ball with it and Madison and Angus also showed interest. Lately, we’ve been getting a wand toy in every Kitnipbox and I will never complain about that since my cats like them so much.

Now I know you are here for the cat photos, so here you go:

What is this?

Yummy!

Angus investigates the rocket. (I know he has scratches on his nose. I think he got into it with Sneaky. She has a scratch too.)

Madison investigates a treat.

Looking stylish.

Mmm, raffia.

Monkey hasn’t been feeling his best lately. It’s hot and he is shedding, and that means hairballs. So I posed him with some toys.

I would’ve shown more pictures of her with the wand but she insisted on keeping her back to me.

Sneaky investigates some feathers.

Sneaky, in going for a treat, eats my hand.

Here I pose Mr. Kitty with some toys.

He did like gnawing on the raffia.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $33.49 for the July KitNipBox. I appreciated the variety of toy types (and textures) and I think the box contents show you can stick with a theme while still providing different kinds of items. I know I haven’t provided links for most of the products, and that’s because I can’t usually find these brands for sale at retail prices online. I do occasionally see these brands in other cat subscription boxes, and I have found them at wholesale websites before (just not with retail prices), so while I don’t think you would be able to find some (or all) of these items at stores, I feel like Kitnipbox is probably sourcing them from wholesale suppliers, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. I thought the theme was fun and my cats enjoyed the items, plus the value was a few dollars over the month-to-month cost of the subscription, so we are happy.

I would like to know where I can buy the shooting star too! Even if it’s from wholesale.

I am looking for a few of these shooting star wands. My cat loves it and right now it is his favorite of all toys but I noticed the elastic is going. He’s going to be devastated if we can’t play with “Star” when I get home from work.

It has gotten to the point where I thought oh good those aren’t freeze dried treats. Ragan’s cats don’t like those. Well, except for the duck ones for Mr. Kitty. 🙂

Yeah, I can sometimes get Sneaky or Angus to eat like one piece of freeze-dried fish or chicken, then no more. They are just not fans. (But not the whole fish, they won’t touch those even once.)
