GiftLit July 2018 Review

Before receiving my books, I received a card in the mail from GiftLit that welcomed me and provided my gift code. One thing I really like about this service is that you always have the option to go online and swap out any of the books you’re scheduled to receive. This is great to ensure that recipients get books that they really want and don’t end up with any books that they already have or are not interested in. They also allow you to return any book that is shipped to you within 30 days.

My book came wrapped in this bright, colorful paper. This is an option that costs an extra $3/month. It’s nice that they have this option, but when you’re paying for a gift subscription, I feel like this is one of those things that should already be included.

Otis by Loren Long- Retail Value $17.99 (Found here for $14.39)

Otis is a sweet story about a tractor and his friendship with a calf. Otis gets replaced by a larger, newer tractor and is soon forgotten about by everyone except for his friend the calf. Otis has to come and save the day when the calf gets stuck in the mud.

This was a longer story for a board book, which I appreciated and my kids both seemed to enjoy the story. I also love that this is a series so we can look into other books about Otis. The personification of a tractor felt like a nice change from a lot of books we have read that usually feature children, animals or other creatures!

Merry Makers Otis the Tractor - Retail Value $16.00 (found here for $8.99)

I love that the Cuddle Collection always includes a stuffed animal of the main character from our stories. My kids are 2 and 3 and they really enjoy having something to go along with their books. I find that they are more engaged with the books when they have this physical component. To me, Otis was not the cutest stuffed toy that we have received, but he is by far the favorite for my son. He loves the tractor and asks for him often!

Verdict: The total value of the book and stuffed animal was $33.99 which is just over the monthly cost of $33.41 per month ($172.46 for 6 months + $28 shipping). The value seems fair for this month since we enjoyed the book and stuffed animal, but the sale prices are so much lower that it takes away from the value a bit for me.

This subscription service does offer a lot of different books and various collections, so the value could change a lot depending on your choices and even vary from month to month. I do think this is a great gift for a book lover since you really can’t go wrong with them being able to choose their own books if they want to, but it just depends on what your budget is.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, you can order this collection and customize it so that you receive the same book.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
