Christie Crispers, 70 g

Christie Crispers, 70 g – Buy a 175 g bag for $4.29

This was my first time getting to try the “all dressed” flavor that Canadians get to experience regularly, and it was a trip! My mind couldn’t decide if I was tasting bbq, ketchup, or salt and vinegar. While they confused my taste buds, they were overall enjoyable!

Hostess Hickory Sticks, 2 47 g bags

Hostess Hickory Sticks, 2 47 g bags – Buy 60 packs for $67.99

These had the lighter texture of a Pringle and the hickory provided a hint of BBQ flavor without actually making these BBQ sticks. It was easy to eat the entire bag in one sitting, so luckily two bags were provided.

Lay’s Ketchup, 40 g – Buy 40 bags for $32.98
I try to keep an open mind. I like ketchup with my French fries, and occasionally I even like ketchup with my chicken tacos (don’t judge). I like lays chips. But wow, ketchup lays should not be a thing. They smell exactly like ketchup. They taste exactly like ketchup. Ketchup belongs with French fries, not solidified in chip form.

President’s Choice The Decadent Chocolate Chip Cookie, 300 g

President’s Choice The Decadent Chocolate Chip Cookie, 300 g – Buy a 350 g package for $4.89 (found here for 3.89)

I have high expectations for cookies that have the word “decadent” in the name, and unfortunately, these fell a little. The quality of the chocolate chips was good, but these were a little too crunchy for this soft-cookie lover. These were still pretty tasty after being dipped into a glass of milk, but they aren’t what I think of when I think of decadent cookies.

Doritos Blue Grilled Steak Chips, 30 g

These limited edition Jurassic World Doritos are available in Canada only based on my online perusing. Once I opened the bag I was greeted with the scent of beef jerky, which I thought was interesting considering this was a bag of tortilla chips. These didn’t taste like beef jerky, but they definitely didn’t pack the punch of flavor you expect from Doritos. The flavor was still pleasant, but it was a bit mild compared to what I was expecting.

Hawkins Cheezies, 2 28 g bags

Hawkins Cheezies, 2 28 g bags – Buy a 210g bag for $7.51

These reminded me of Cheetos with a touch more natural cheese flavor. As both a cheese and Cheetos lover, these were a hit. Yay for getting two bags!

Maynard’s Fuzzy Peach, 64g – Buy a 355g for $10.98

I love peach flavored gummies so these were right up my alley. The peach flavor was extra juicy and the sugar coating was a nice touch. Overall, a solid snack.

Nestle Mackintosh Toffee Bars, 45g

Nestle Mackintosh Toffee Bars, 45g – Buy a 12 pack for $18.99

This toffee bar was an experience—the toffee was very, very hard and you couldn’t exactly bite it without worrying about cracking a tooth. The toffee itself was really buttery and delicious, and it reminded me of the caramel in a caramel apple lollipop. I ended up just sucking on this bar until I could chew off small pieces, which was a bit awkward considering the size. Luckily, I was in the comfort of my own home and was able to eat this, however, I pleased without other people witnessing me basically making out with a toffee bar.

Maynard’s Wine Gums, 44 g – Buy a 190 g bag for $5

These wine gums, sadly, do not contain wine. Misnomer aside, these reminded me a lot of the American candy Dots. These had a firm yet very chewy texture, and the fruit flavor was strong and juicy.

Miss Vickie’s Sea Salt & Malt Vinegar Chips,

Miss Vickie’s Sea Salt & Malt Vinegar Chips, 1.375 oz – Buy a pack of 64 for $44.95

I love salt and vinegar chips and these were pretty stellar. I have seen Miss Vickie’s before, but not the salt and vinegar version. These had that good bite from the vinegar without totally destroying my taste buds, and the chips had awesome texture.

Verdict: This was my first experience with the Get Canucked box, and it was fun! Some of the snacks had me going no way Jose, but overall it was interesting to see what those up North snack on—both the similarities and the differences. This definitely is a bit of a pricey snack box, however. I see this primarily appealing to Canadians now living in the States with no access to the treats they grew up with, or those who want to experience the unique treats as a one-off. I am definitely excited to see what my taste buds will experience next month from Get Canucked!

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

  1. This box is a rip-off. I’m Canadian and the retail value is not that high.

You can get a lot of that stuff on and but I’d also look on eBay!

  2. I feel like Presidents Choice is the Fred Meyer stores genaric brand if I remember correctly. I did used to love those cookies though I last had them 20+ years ago. That toffee is life! I agree, must freeze and smash to eat. Or just smash. I grew up on that toffee! My folks still bring back a case when they go to Canada.

  3. Pop the toffee in the freezer and then crack. As kids we spent a lot of time in my dad’s workshop using his mallet on this tasty treat. Then pop the pieces in your mouth and let them melt

  4. Macintosh Toffee is meant to be smashed first before eating. I would usually hit it against a wall to crack it into little pieces and then you just pop a small chunk in your mouth.

  5. Ugg.. previous comment did not post. we got to try the miss vickies lime and pepper chips while on our vacation in Alberta and BC and loved them. I can’t find those chips here (i maybe thought they were under a different name) and i can’t find the lime and pepper flavor on line. Does anyone have any thoughts on where I may be able to find these or order these from. I am in st. louis. Had I known I couldn’t get them here we would have brought back several bags with us.

  6. We just tried Miss Vickies chips while on our vacation up in the Banff and Jasper area. We fell in love with the lime and black pepper chips. I can’t find them here in st. louis and I can’t find that particular flavor on line anywhere… Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase these???? I thought I could maybe find them here under a different name, but I have had no luck so far. If I would have known, we would have bought several bags home with us…

  7. I’ve always wanted to try ketchup chips but haven’t. As a kid, I always dipped my regular salted chips into ketchup because they tasted too greasy otherwise. To me, it’s not different than eating ketchup with French fries. The only difference between French fries and chips is how they’re cut and cooked after all.

  8. I’m not surprised the cookies fell short; this brand is a generic grocery store brand. Disappointing to see it included.

  9. I love the Mackintosh toffee bars and ate them a lot growing up but when I was about 18, I had one and cracked a filling in my tooth and lost half the filling. Still worth it!

    • The secret is to chill it for a bit….drop it on the floor, let it warm up and then eat it lol. It breaks when you drop it

  10. Hickory Sticks are my favourite chip.

The best way to eat the toffee bar is to freeze it the smack it hard on the table. Voila easy to eat pieces.

  11. I LOVE ketchup chips, I’ve actually been craving them (nope, not pregnant) so I am totally jealous of you getting them lol

  12. And yuck for ketchup, for sure. That only belongs on food, not infused in products.

  13. If I was willing to spend $35.00 on snacks (and I’d love to, actually, but I could just get other international snacks/foods from Amazon or beyond), this would be interesting. I live in ND which is way close to the border, but I never get up there (last time was 2004). I’d like to see other reviews of this, but I think the price should be lower, especially of MSA was asked to review this box to appeal to other subscribers. Even the smaller one is pricey.

  14. I’m Canadian and after seeing this, I feel like I should start my own snack subscription box – this is a ripoff! Even with shipping, and the coupon, you’re paying at least $10US over retail.

I can confirm that everything is delicious though, if the price doesn’t bother you! 😉
