Ecocentric Mom June 2018 Unboxing & Review
Ecocentric Mom customizes some of the products they send to you based on your due date or child's birthday. With a focus on eco-friendly or green products, they'll send you items from a variety of different categories: usually, we see some wellness products, healthy snacks, eco-friendly alternatives to products you may already use, and kids toys/accessories from green brands.
Each box comes with a tiny envelope with cards detailing some of the items you've received and why. You won't get these for every item in the box, though; usually just the big-ticket items.
Laiki Black Rice Crackers Sample - Buy 8, 3.53 oz. bags for $24.72
I always go for the snacks first!
These black rice crackers were surprisingly delicious. Crunchy and light, they satiated my craving for salty food and I was happy to see they were only 100 calories.
And they only have 3 ingredients, which is kind of amazing. I'd definitely be on the lookout for more of these, as I think my son would love them too.
Purple Frog Air Freshener Pods – Retail Value About $7.63 USD ($9.99 CAD)
As much as I love my essential oil diffuser, I've never been big on other types of "home scent" products. I'm very particular with my scents!
This product is an interesting take on the concept: small, disposable "pods" fragranced with peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary, lemon, and sunflower oils (their "Recharge" blend). You can peel each of the 12 dots off of the backing, squeeze it until it "pops", and stick them anywhere you like. Store the rest in the resealable brown bag until you're ready to use them.
These were filed under "Something Practical". I do love that Ecocentric Mom tries to send a good mix of products that are useful as well as products to treat yourself and your kids.
I'll admit, I stuck one up next to my desk and really enjoyed the fragrance all day... but I also think these would be great to stick inside of stinky diaper pails. What can I say, they seem multipurpose! 🙂
Bubble Podz, 8 count - Retail Value $7.99
I didn't get a card for this item, but it was actually our favorite in the box!
These are bubble bath pods... little packets that dissolve on contact with water and are filled with a dry bubble mixture.
I've been making an effort to reduce plastic waste and have been buying more bar soap instead of liquid body wash, and I've really struggled with bubble bath because we use it so fast but it seems so wasteful! These pods totally solve that for me.
Plus, they smell awesome (we got the Yumberry scent) and make great bubbles that last a long time. They promise to be safe for sensitive skin too, and we've had no issues.
My son loves holding them in his hands under the water to watch the bubbles form! They also help us to not use too much at once, unlike liquid bubble bath (which is easy to over pour). They're a little pricey for the 8 pack but seem more reasonable if you go for the 60 count pack, so I'm definitely considering reordering these!
Scrubby Animal Bath Sponge by New England Naturals - Estimated Value $8 (Buy 5 for $40 here)
I was happy to get another bath time item in this box! We had been using a duck bath puppet recently, so my son was excited to see a new animal show up in the tub.
Subscribers could have received any number of different animals and colors. Pricing for these seemed a little crazy since the brand itself sells them for about $8 each, but Ecocentric Mom listed this for $5.99 (but sells them for $6.99). At any rate, I think $6-$8 is perfectly reasonable for this kind of product and actually would have expected it to cost more.
This turtle is so sweet and has such a cute face! Plus a little loop so you can hang him dry.
He's made of cotton flax and is both soft and scrubby:
Making him a great pet to help clean off all the mud and dirt we accumulate after playing outside all day. 😉
Welcome to the family, Mr. Turtle!
Delizioso Skin Care Under Eye Gel - Retail Value $24.95
We usually get something "for Mama" in the box, too, and this month features an anti-aging under eye gel made with Watermelon and CoQ10. CoQ10 is apparently an enzyme found naturally in the body, which some say has anti-aging properties.
I was able to find this product in the same size for less than the listed price here, from the brand's website.
From my perspective, I found this gel to be lightweight and super refreshing. I've actually been keeping it at work for a quick pick-me-up since it helps the skin under my eyes feel cooler during this hot weather.
I haven't noticed an anti-aging effect necessarily, but this does also contain coffee extract which has always helped a bit with my under eye circles! I'm getting terrible 3rd-trimester sleep right now so I need all the help I can get in that area.
Verdict: My June Ecocentric Mom Box had an overall value of $48.57 (not including the rice crackers). This feels a little light to me compared to some previous boxes we've received from this brand; I've had boxes with retail values well over $75 in some cases. But I do genuinely like all the products this month, and we're still getting about $15 over the price of the box. For discovering green products for my family and getting some nice treats for myself too, this box is always a good bet.
