Tavik Vice Short Sleeve Knit Tee, size small – Retail Value $37.00

The first item is this super duper soft tee from Tavik. I’m not familiar with the brand but immediately recognized it as a high-quality item based on the feel of it as well as the presentation. I can be all over the place with sizing, but this size small fits like a glove so it isn’t too large or too small. The 100% cotton fabric is also really lightweight so it’s perfect for summer! The beachy graphic has been screened on the inside of the shirt to give it a more worn-in/muted look. A sunset over the ocean, through some palm trees, is quite a nice scene if I do say myself.

Dime II Sunglasses by DIFF Eyewear – Retail Value $60.00

Ahhhh! I LOVE these sunnies!! Receiving sunglasses in a subscription box is always a crap shoot (especially since I am uber picky) but these fit my face shape well and are totally something I would pick for myself. I’ve been wearing these for the last week and have to say that they’re a great quality and quite sturdy. I honestly thought they’d have a higher price point but part of their model is to provide the same quality as luxury brands at a fraction of the cost. I love the tortoise color and even though I don’t always love mirrored lenses, the yellow color of these are really summery and fun. What’s also great is that DIFF Eyewear has a “buy one give one” program that donates a pair of reading glasses to someone in need when you purchase their sunglasses. They also support The Sabo Project.

Roxy Dig This Trucker Hat in Black – Retail Value $22.00

I’m not particularly a mesh trucker hat kind of gal but am familiar with the beach/surf brand Roxy since it’s been around for ages. My friend Sari has been getting me out of my house this summer with hikes and kayaking trips, so I always need to slather tons of sunscreen onto my pale skin and make sure my noggin is protected from those harmful rays. Enter: this hat! I got rid of all of my old flat-brimmed baseball caps so this one is actually welcome to assist in my outdoor adventures. So glad it came in black as well!

Pura Vida Bitty Palm Frond Bracelet in Pink – Retail Value $10.00

Another brand I recognize is the ever popular Pura Vida (who is also a charitable company), mainly because of Liz’s reviews of their very own bracelet club! The bracelet I received is a braided pink style that has a silver palm leaf charm (as well as the standard Pura Vida charm). It’s adjustable simply by pulling the two ends so that it can accommodate my freakishly small wrists. 😉 Since these bracelets are really collectible and stackable, I’m interested to see if one will come in each box moving forward.

Slowtide Alkali Beach Towel being held up close up of Slowtide Alkali Beach Towel Slowtide Alkali Beach Towel tag

Slowtide x Salt & Stone Alkali Beach Towel – Retail Value $39.95

Would you believe that I don’t own a beach towel? If I’m being honest, I’m not big on public pools and living in Pittsburgh, I don’t have a beach readily available to me. However, as I mentioned earlier, my friend planned a leisure kayaking trip last weekend, so this towel came at the perfect time! I brought this Slowtide towel (a collaboration with Salt & Stone) along on our almost four-hour kayak float which included a stop to swim in the river we were on outside of town. This heavy-duty towel also doubled as a shade when the sun was beating down on my fair skin a bit more than I’d like. Like the hat, I’m pleased with the black and white foamy ocean water design that speaks to my goth tendencies. I popped this in the washer after my trip and it was good to go for the next outing!

SunnyLife Gold Glitter Pineapple Inflatable Drink Holder – Retail Value $22.00

Yet another quality brand, SunnyLife, makes an appearance in the box! The Austrailian company is one of the most fun names in pool gear and this glitter-filled inflatable pineapple drink holder is no exception. The pineapple is 27 inches tip to toe and holds four drinks while you float in the (in-ground, above ground, or even baby) pool to beat the heat. The body of the pineapple is metallic gold and clear so that you can see the chunky gold glitter inside, and it’s topped with a metallic green leafy top. This will accommodate large tumblers or 12-ounce cans alike.

Aloha Collection Small Harmony Pouch in Guava – Retail Value $28.00

Oooh- I am really digging this “splash-proof” pouch made of Tyvek! There is something magical about Tyvek that I can’t quite put my finger on. It’s super durable, lightweight, and as I mentioned, has a level of water-resistance that will keep everything in here safe near the water. Normally this material is a plain white, but Aloha Collection has made it cute with all sorts of different patterns. This one is from the “Resort Collection” and features bold pink stripes with khaki palm leaves overtop to add beachy vibes to any trip. It comes with a really sturdy plastic zipper and has all the info printed on the inside. You can even use this to toss your wet swimsuit into so you don’t get anything else in your bag damp. I’m really tempted to get one of these large striped ones for travel…

Salt & Stone California Mint Lip Balm Salt & Stone California Mint Lip Balm with cap off

Salt & Stone California Mint Lip Balm – Retail Value $5.00

The box is rounded out with a summer essential: lip balm! I suppose lip balm is also a winter essential, but “California Mint” just sounds summery to me. It’s made with organic beeswax, extra virgin coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, and organic peppermint essential oil. I love the minimal packaging of this made in the USA balm and since mint is my favorite scent/flavor, I am digging this one. It went straight into my purse to keep my lips hydrated when I need it.

Verdict: I am more than impressed with my first Coastal Co. box! They included well-known brands and items I found really high quality and usable even though I don’t live near a beach. I don’t think they skimped on any of the items, and almost all of them felt like the star of the box. For $99.00 for one season (+ $4.95 shipping), I received a whopping $223.95 worth of summertime essentials which is just an incredible deal. The sunglasses are definitely my favorite items of the box with the towel and pouch coming in second and third. I learned about some new brands, and overall this box made a pasty indoor kid like myself want to be a beach babe.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today?  Yes, although yours may be different than mine based on your preferences. They ship batches each month for the current season. The next one ships July 14th!

  1. My husband has been getting their men’s ‘surf box’ for as long as they’ve been going … he always likes the t-shirts and some of the items have been great – waterproof speakers, back up charges, and YES – aloha collection bags (black, of course) but there’s been an issue with aloha shirts (all too tight or shrink) and the shorts (all too small / short)…
so we’ve cancelled it since he has enough t-shirts at this time!
I was thinking about ordering this box but it’s weird that some people didn’t get the towel… that would be such a bummer since thats part of why I would get it!
But I LOVE all the Aloha Collection bags (even give them out as. gifts for holidays!)

  2. Hi, I also have to say I am disappointed with this box. I did not receive the beach towel either. The sunglasses were not flattering and cheap. The t-shirt was tiny. I could squeeze maybe my elbow in it. They really need to do a better job with the sizing.

  3. I got this box for my girlfriend, and she friggin’ loved it! The box was packed with awesome stuff ranging from clothing to accessories. It was definitely worth the $99 I paid. She got $200 worth of stuff, and it was delivered to our door! Crazy good 🙂 5 Stars! Highly recommended!

  4. I was SUPER impressed with this box. Exceeded my expectations and the value is definitely at least double what I paid. I’ve been looking for a box that fits my love of the beach and this is it! I loved the assortment of product and brands, cute t shirt, accessories and even sunglasses… right up my alley! I cannot wait to get my Fall Box, wish it was more than 4 times a year!

  5. this is the most disappointing box. I was so excited. No towel even though I emailed them right after subscribing and was assured I would get my choices. Cheap pair of flip flops, shirt too small, a GLITTER TUMBLER, a small bag like in the review, ok sunglasses. Every single thing in my box was a matching hideous color of peachy pink. I don’t do pink. I told them I don’t wear baseball hats but that’s what I got. The box contents didn’t even come close to $180, much less what was sent to MSA for review. They paid ZERO attention to my profile or the email telling them more about me, my pool and what I do and don’t like. This was the biggest waste of $100 in sub boxes to date. This is the first time I took a risk on a new sub and got burned. I will never do that again

  6. I was so excited to get my box after your review. And so terribly disappointed with the outcome. The shipping took FOREVER. I too didn’t receive a towel which is one of the items I was really excited about. I received a hideously out of style hat. And flip flops that look cheap and are two sizes too big for me even though I filled out my profile stating size. Should have known this one was too good to be true. It looks like they are just tossing in closed out inventory that nobody wants.

  7. I just got my box and I am SOOOO disappointed. I got a shirt that was too small, a different brand of sunglasses (with no holder, and I don’t think they took face shape into consideration, they don’t fit me AT ALL), a really ugly light denim hat, cheap flipflops, and no towel. Feel like I might be missing that item?

I emailed to cancel, to expensive to not even receive the same brands as all the bigger name bloggers are getting, and for 85% of the box to be a miss (yes I know they said every one’s would be different, however, there certainly isn’t enough information provided for them to really tailor the experience to you) 🙁

    • I agree, I got the same thing as you and no towel and the denim hat is ugly and shirt too small, cancelling immediately.

  8. Thanks for the review! I have been looking for a new sub that isn’t so beauty oriented (I’m on overload with beauty). Ordered and so excited for it to come.

  9. I’m excited to get the box. I am not fond of the hat or tshirt. I think the ads posted cuter items. I am counting on the fact that they say you can exchange. I wish it was customized like fab fit fun with choices.

  10. Soooo tempted to get this box!!!!! Thanks for the great review!

  11. I’m glad to see this reviewed! I purchased this box on Tuesday based on a friends recommendation and I’m excited for it to arrive! I wonder if all subscribers receive the same items since it appears to be somewhat customized? Definitely appears to be a great value!

    • They do say that they curate based on your preferences and location, so there may be some variants. I can see the sunglasses having different styles based on face shape or some of the colors varying. If you think of it, let us know what you end up getting, Kris!

      • I will post my boxes contents when I receive it! Thanks for the great review Marne! Before I subscribed I searched the internet for any coupon codes and I located one for $15 off the box…the code is: barrel15. I just thought that I’d share in case anyone else was interested in subscribing!

  12. Gorgeously and perfectly curated box, in my humble opinion. Wow! This sub box totally gets it. I was on a lock down, but this one has won me over. “add to cart”

  13. Wow what a fantastic box!! Well worth the price .
