My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Cat Lady Box July 2018 Review

Cat Lady Box is always full of fun, cat-themed lifestyle items. Let’s see what was in store for July:

I love how the information cards have custom artwork every month. And the back has more information about the items in the box.

Beach Towel Cat Mat – Listed Value $14.99

Yes, I realize this is upside down in the photo, but it looked weird because the perspective was all wrong when I flipped the photo. Anyway, this is one of the items you’ll receive in the “Crazy” Cat Lady version of the box. There are some spots in our master bathroom (which has a window and a skylight) where Sneaky and Monkey and Mr. Kitty like to hang out during the day so I will put this there to make things more comfortable for them.

Cool Sun Catnip Toy

Cool Sun Catnip Toy – Listed Value $4.99

I’m going to have to watch this one because the rays (hair?) are a texture that I am pretty sure someone will try to eat at some point…

Purrtoise Shell Sunglasses – Listed Value $17.99

Haha, these are cute. I think the pattern matches some socks we got last year and the purse from a few months ago, as well, if you want to coordinate. They are lightweight and fit me pretty well.

Sheer Peach Kitty Lip Gloss – Listed Value $8.99

I think this is the first makeup item I’ve received in this subscription (we have had some tools, like brushes, and some nail decals, though). I had to really pile it up on my arm for the swatch; this is a pretty light color when worn and it should provide a nice amount of shine and work for people with various skin tones.

Cat Travel Bag Set – Listed Value $24.99

There were supposed to be two of the black and white drawstring bags but they were inadvertently not packed according to an email sent to subscribers. So we will get the second one in our boxes next month. (And if you have canceled or your subscription will run out, contact Cat Lady Box for a solution.) I don’t travel often due to the health needs of my pets (who else would feed Mr. Kitty at 3AM, seriously?) but for those rare times when I do, these will be handy to have around (and I really have like no travel supplies). I think the larger bags could be useful for keeping nice shoes from getting scuffed up and of course, the small one is a good size for your carry-on liquids.

Gratuitous cat photos:

Angus with the mat.

Angus sniffing the toy.  Note the dog nose at the bottom of the photo.

Madison walked all around this on the bed several times.

But he didn’t seem to mind when I did this.

Monkey with the mat. If he doesn’t look his usual beautiful self, it’s because he got Cat Lax all over himself (spit it out or tried to groom himself after I’d given it to him or something) and we had to do an emergency BATH right before I took these pictures. We found out he does not like the hair dryer ONE BIT.

Sneaky sniffs the toy. Notice she has a scratch on her nose. Angus has several. I didn’t see anything happen, but I believe there was a confrontation…

Sneaky did not like it when I put the mat on her.

Mr. Kitty was super sleepy so I just put stuff on him.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $71.95 for the July 2018 (Crazy) Cat Lady Box. That is definitely more than the $39.99 a month box, including free shipping. I thought the items were great for a summer box and different from items we’ve generally received in this box in past months. The sunglasses and lip gloss, especially, will see a lot of use and my cats enjoyed the cat items.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Orders have to be placed by the 22nd of the previous month. So if you sign up today, you'll receive the August box.

  • Toy: $2.77
  • Sunglasses: $10
  • Gloss: $5

Awww, poor Mr. Kitty. My heart breaks for him! I keep looking at each review to see how he’s doing!

I look forward to your reviews!

What I like most about the cat sub box reviews is your pictures and comments, Ragan. I think I respond to it so positively because your observational, sweet, funny, and matter-of-fact comments show how much you love your animals. I get what another commentor said earlier–I’d read a post that’s just pictures of your cats with your comments. You don’t even need to review anything! : )

Thanks for sharing with us!

I actually really like this box and the direction Cat Lady has taken. When I first subbed, I almost cancelled because I kept getting home decor, which is tricky to incorporate into my home. But then we started getting more clothing, accessories, and beauty, and I love it! I’m really enjoying the shades!

And of course my posts don’t post as usual.

Your post is right there. You just need a little patience sometimes.

Helen

It’s has nothing to do with patience and everything to do with censorship. Only about half of my posts make it to “print.” Some posts do eventually get posted others do not.

I am actually glad my gift subscription ended last month and I won’t be getting this truly terrible box. Everything in this box screams “Made in China” and dollar store.

The travel bags are cute but defiantly not worth anywhere near $24.99. They look like what they are, advertising material for the “Cat Lady Box.” Even the lip-gloss is another advertisement item. I am so over it. It makes me sad because some of the earlier offerings were cute and useful. This stuff is mostly junk.

How do we find out what August’s theme is? I just discovered this box but am having trouble finding out where and how they announce their themes.

Thanks!

There are usually posts about it here. If you look up in the gray box near the top of the review, there’s a clickable tag that says “cat lady box.” All Cat Lady Box posts will show up there, including reviews, sales, and spoilers/themes.

Cat lady box has been either great or not great for me. I was not fond of this box. I liked the other box much better. 3 items for $35 or 3 items + 2 cat toys for close to $40 is a bit high especially if the entire box is a miss. I did not like the curation this month. The lipgloss and the black and white travel bag seemed like it should have been in a different box, or the color should have matched the blanket,

This looks like a pretty good month, except for the sunglasses. I wear prescription glasses, so I will not be wearing these, but I have a friend that may enjoy them so I will re-gift. Otherwise, the travel bags for me will get a lot of use and I’m sure Sapphire will really enjoy that cat bed.

I liked all items with the exception of the lip gloss. I’m concerned about its origins (China?) and overall lack of information on that.
Also, was not happy about it being one if the items, for beauty we got Ipsy and such, and getting yet another boring gloss from a non-beauty subscription box was disappointing.

I don’t know where it is made but their shop says it is cruelty free and not tested on animals.

I am not too bothered about getting lip gloss, but I have been wearing a lot lately since I got Invisalign and taking the trays out with lipstick on makes a mess of my face.

Invisalign tip: Use a size B-2.25 crochet hook to remove your trays. Your nails will thank you. 🙂 And your lipstick won’t get messed up.

If only we could get a daily post of gratuitous cat photos of your family!

I don’t think I could handle reviewing that many cat subscriptions.
