Bookroo is a subscription service that sends books for children every month. They have a board book plan (for ages 0-2.5), a picture book plan (for ages 2.5-6) and a chapter book plan (for ages 7-10). They offer the option to alternate between picture and board books each month which is great if you have children in different age groups like I do.

This review is of the Board Book, $19.95 a month, box.

Bookroo sends the books individually wrapped each month.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Bookroo July 2018 Review

Bookroo always includes an insert that gives a brief description of each book and also includes a link for some extension activities. This month there was an animal theme, which is perfect since my son is obsessed with them! The activities on the website were all fun ideas that connected to the stories but would also be fun by themselves.

Touch and Feel Animals by Little Learners - Retail Value $9.99 (similar version found here for $7.99)

I always appreciate a tactile book for my little ones. It's such a great way to explore different textures, and what better subject than some cute animals!

The illustrations are adorable and the text is just the right length to be interesting. They describe different textures and shapes and might even introduce some new adjectives into your child's vocabulary.

Eyes  by Michael E. Smith - Retail Value $9.99

This book is so unique. It started as a Kickstarter campaign and was actually written for the author's daughter who had a fondness for eyes and pointing them out in books as she read.

This book is a great example of how children are just drawn to certain things and will enjoy looking at them again and again. My kids loved this book even though it's so simple with only one word per page. The illustrations are so bold and striking and draw you in. The aesthetic nature of these close-ups of animal eyes really appealed to them and it was fun to see them respond this way to the artwork.

Planes, Trains, and Animobiles by Lizzy Doyle - Retail Value $7.99

I love this book! It is such a cute play on words that it was really fun for me to read! It went a little over my kids' heads, but they enjoyed the animals that were featured and the playful nature of the book.

The illustrations are vibrant and appealing with several different animal characters throughout and rhyming text which created a nice rhythm to the story. This is a fun book that I'll enjoy reading over and over again to them.

Verdict: This was a really great Bookroo board book box! I love that there was a mix of different levels of text, yet they were all board books that appealed to younger kids. They were really unique books this month with the artistic Eyes book and the playful Animobile puns.

The retail value of the books was $27.97 which is just over the $24.95 cost of the box ($19.95 a month + $5 shipping). These books were so fun and interesting that I feel we got a great value this month. Especially considering I probably would not have discovered the Eyes book on my own which is definitely the favorite of the bunch for my kiddos!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
