Adults & Crafts Wine Caddy Kit May 2018 Review

The project for May was a wooden wine caddy! The instructions include photos of each step.

I believe these wood pieces were custom cut for the box. They are pre-drilled and perfectly cut to the exact sizes needed, which made assembling this project easy!

A couple of my pieces weren't in great shape, so I was a little worried at first. However, this wasn't very noticeable on the finished piece.

I Spy DIY Tools 5-in-1 Metal Craft Hammer with Screwdrivers – Retail Value $6.97 (found here for $3.67)

This is easily the most adorable hammer I've ever owned! Just the hammer alone is great, but the screwdrivers inside make it much more practical. This isn't a hammer I'd want to use for large projects, as the head doesn't have as much weight as a larger hammer. However, it's perfect for occasional use and worked well for this project. Sometimes the handle becomes a little loose, but it's easy to tighten it up again.

DecoArt Americana 2 fl. oz. Maple Gel Stain – Retail Value $1.99

I've received this type of stain in boxes before and it works well. This bottle was exactly the right size for the project.

The kit also included one piece of sandpaper, screws, nails, a sponge brush, and rope. Adults and Crafts are great about including everything you need for their projects.

The first step was to sand and stain the wood. I love the rich color after staining!

The next step was to screw the vertical wood pieces to the base. All the holes were pre-drilled, so it went together quickly.

The nails arrived attached together in a little block, kind of like a row of staples. I used the hammer and one of the screws to separate them.

I used the nails to attach two side panels on each side.

Here's what it looked like after I got the first side done.

Once the pieces were together, the last step was to knot the ends of the rope handle at the top. If you plan on using it as a tote rather than just display, you might want to add some hot glue to make sure the rope doesn't unravel when it's holding heavy contents.

Here's the finished piece! It's quite substantial and is made to fit a bottle of wine in the middle, with glasses on the side. I think it would make a nice housewarming gift.

Verdict: This project was easy to complete even though I don't have much woodworking experience. It went together quickly – the longest part was waiting for the stain to dry. One thing I like about Adults and Crafts is that your end result really can look exactly like their display sample if you want it to. Of course, you can also customize the projects – I think this one might look cute with a stenciled design.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? If you order now, you won't receive this box, however you can order the Wine Caddy Kit from their shop for $39. It has all the supplies included here.

Value Breakdown: The $34 kit creates one wine caddy, plus the hammer that can be used for future projects. The hammer and stain have a retail value of around $9, so that leaves $25 for the caddy itself. This kit has precut pieces that you can't find anywhere else, so I think it's a good deal.

Hmm. Wish I had gotten this kit rather than the one I actually received – wire word in a picture frame and twine balls. The picture frame was very cheap quality and glass broken, had to scour up a mat for the backing. The rest was sort of grade school stuff. Will give 1 more month to see if the next project is more substantial.

Oh no! I’m sure if you reach out to Adults & Crafts they’ll help you – their customer service is really good. The frame I got has a wooden back, so something’s definitely wrong if that was missing.

I’m working on the twine kit now, and I actually like it a lot more than the wine caddy. With a subscription like this, there are bound to be some months that just aren’t for you, but overall I think this is one of the best craft subs out there.
