About 5th Avenue Style

The Subscription Box: 5th Ave Style Deluxe Subscription Box

The Cost: $159 (or 3 months for $447) + free US shipping

The Products: Features 4-5 branded luxury accessories items such as jewelry, scarves, bags, small leather goods, sunglasses with a minimum value of $350.

Ships to: Worldwide! “Anywhere where ladies desire upscale accessories.” Standard shipping is free in the contiguous 48 states. International shipping is $35.

Good to Know: This website is (in my opinion) dire need of updating – so be patient with it. Due to international brands, shipping can sometimes take longer than advertised (advertised at 10-15 days, but honestly, I’ve never received a box in that window – they always take much longer!). I was billed for this box on 5/18/18 and received this box on 6/28/18 – and I’m a recurring subscriber! They have said in several communications that they are working on improving their shipping process – so I’m sticking with them! Once you get to the items you’ll see why! 😊

Additionally, if you don’t like your items you are able to use their exchange policy within 7 days of your delivery date. Their customer service team is friendly and I honestly do believe that they try to respond to your inquiry/ question/concern as timely as possible - but I feel like it’s just one overworked rep behind the e-mail – and this subscription is one where you need to be proactive with your follow up or else it gets lost in the shuffle.

An example of this, I asked to exchange 2 items from a past box – I sent them back over a month ago and have not yet gotten a replacement. I need to follow up on this!

5th Avenue Style “Deluxe” May 2018 Review

This is the invoice that was included in the package. I’ve said it before – and I’ll say it again - it’s great that they tell you the country of origin for each piece, but I do wish they would list retail price. It can be difficult to gauge the actual value of the box you receive.

This month I received five items - all from the USA! What a nice, patriotic treat to see fantastic quality, artisan style pieces made right here at home!

Coach Crossgrain Leather Minetta Handbag (Style F57847) – Retail Value $325 (retired style found here for $172.95)

I am always thrilled to see a coach logo when I open this box! I can never have enough fantastic handbags – and I’m a huge fan of the coach brand – I think that their quality, craftsmanship, and style is top-notch!

The bag I received this month is the perfect summer style! It’s a very light, buttery pale yellow (it’s called Vanilla) with all the features that I love in a bag. This little beauty measures 11.5” L x 9.5” H x 4.5” W and has an adorable boxy shape that feels very modern. This bag features silver hardware, is made from cross-grain leather, and is lined in a matching fabric. The handles have a 5.5” drop.

This bag also comes with a long, adjustable strap for shoulder or crossbody wear.

The inside of this bag is smartly divided into 3 main parts. The middle of the bag has a fully zipped, secure pocket flanked on either side by an open, lined space. One side has a slip pocket for your cell phone and the other has a smaller zipped pocket. There is also a large, slip pocket on the outside of the bag. At the top, there is a magnetic closure, though I myself rarely use those and tend to just care these types of bags open on top.

This bag came in a Coach box, with coach tissue, making it giftable if it’s not your style – but I was disappointed that it didn’t come with a dust bag. Regardless, I think I’ll keep this bag since it's a perfect size, a timeless style, and pretty versatile for a yellow bag!

And here I am with it, to show scale.

Every deluxe box that I’ve received contains this type of white box containing the smaller items and the packing slip. This plain white box is sturdy and I stockpile them for a variety of other uses (including easy gift wrapping). I’m excited to see an Évocateur piece (I’ve always wanted one!) and a pair of sunnies, among the other treats!

Let’s dig into these goodies!

Evocateur Red Coral Earrings in Gold (USA) – Retail Value $148

The enclosed card reads “congratulations! You are now the owner of a stunning, one-of-a-kind Evocateur treasure. Each Évocateur piece is handcrafted, which means that no two pieces are exactly alike.”

Stunning is exactly the word that I would use to describe these earrings. These are quality pieces. These 1" disc earrings are made of 22K gold leaf and are perfect for summer! I have long admired this brand, and I am SO excited to finally have a piece of it to call my own!  These earrings are handmade in the US and pack a statement. They're a perfect size, and basically wearable art. Now, I just need to talk my husband (or 5th Ave style!) and convince someone to get me the matching bangle! *swoon*

I would be thrilled to build a collection of these beautiful pieces!

Kathy Ireland Women’s Sunglasses (LP2687B) – Retail Value $40?

This is the second pair of Kathy Ireland sunglasses that I have received in this subscription, and I although these are not ones I would typically pick up myself, I do really like them! Even with the item number, I couldn’t find this exact pair online (meaning they’re either a retired or brand-new style). This oversized, exaggerated cat eye style feel sturdy, with its acetate marble patterned frame with a contrasting marble inlay. The UV400 lens features 100% UV protection. Kathy Ireland sunglasses are advertised as being durable and shatterproof. They came with the pouch case, to keep them scratch free!

Alta Vintage Layered Necklace (USA) in Silver & Gold

I couldn’t find this brand, or style online so I don’t know much – except that I really like it! This layered necklace is mostly silver, with some gold details on each silver strand. End-to-end this necklace measures 18” and has 5 sturdy stands. The clasp is very secure, which is necessary for this somewhat heavy piece. It reminds me of the Brighton brand – with similar features that I’ve seen on some of those pieces.

Here I am in the earrings, sunglasses, and necklace.

ArtZen Gemstone Wine Stopper (USA)

Again, I couldn’t find this style online (very common with the 5th Avenue subscription) but this is listed as a “gift” item. I can always use another wine stopper, and this one is absolutely beautiful. It has a glass base, acrylic seal, and a large gemstone top – which I believe is brown agate.

And finally, here’s one last photo to remind you of how fantastic this box was this month. I couldn’t be happier!

The Verdict: It’s very difficult to quantify value on this 5th Avenue Style Deluxe Box. You’re guaranteed a value of $350 – and the 2 pieces that I was able to find online (the coach bag and the Évocateur earrings) retail for a combined $473 – which already exceeded the promised price, without even factoring in the sunglasses, wine stopper, or necklace!

For me, the quality of the pieces and the fun of receiving this subscription outweigh the negatives that I continue to note – their shipping time is terrible, their customer service needs continued prompting to follow through on their promises, and I know college students with better personal websites than this company. If I wasn’t so pleased with the products, I would be really irritated that I get my order on average 6 weeks after I pay for it, and probably cancel on those grounds alone.

That said, if the Évocateur and Coach pieces keep coming, then I still feel that the pros outweigh the cons!

The Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Because of the variation, it’s unlikely that you would get the same items that I’m showing here. The value should be similar and is promised to at least be $350.

Value Breakdown: This month, the $159 subscription sent me 5 items. If you weight them all equally (which they obviously aren’t!) it means you’re paying on average $31.80 per item. Since that’s about 10% of the coach bag’s retail price – I’d consider that alone a big win!

@liz. There are a lot of people stating they are not getting any responses to their emails to 5th Avenue Style. Can you confirm whether or not they are still in business?

Dear Jennifer at 5th Avenue,

Please update me on my orders #19314 (Spring LE box) and #19665 (summer LE box). I have sent emails on 5/29 and 6/20 but have not received any reply. It is apparent that you read and reply to comments on MSA so I am reaching out to you on MSA.
Thank you.

Did you get a response after sending this message? I’m trying to reach them as well and I’m not getting a response.

Wow. Everything looks outdated and like they got a bunch of discontinued stock that no one wanted. Seems like a big waste of money. 🙁

Fantastic review — you found a great way to summarize the many pros and cons of this company’s boxes (including the mystery background of some of the goods/brands they send, which drives me a bit nuts). Really nice job!

I’m currently in the midst of a ‘ continued prompting’ session with their customer service of my own. I think I’m going on over 5 emails that they have ignored in at least as many months…..and because of that I can’t really recommend this company anymore.

I got a Coach bag in my Holiday box and really like it – but I think the yellow one you got is even cuter! And Evocateur earrings – great box! I’m not a huge fan of Alta Vintage but it’s still a nice selection and everything looks good on you.

I would have been very pleased with this box, had I received it. While the shipping delays can get VERY frustrating, the curation is always fun and generous. I think way too many people have unrealistic expectations. Do people really expect to get full price items valuing over 100% of what they paid?

With all that said, I can hardly wait to receive my Summer boxes. I ordered two!

I have only subbed for two months, but I received the EXACT same Kathy Ireland sunglasses (I mean EXACTLY the ones in this review) both months! They must have a ton of those they are trying to unload! Needless to say, the second pair was returned.

Colette, great review as always! Thank you.
Very nice box. The bag and Evocateur earrings are my favorites there.
I have an Evocateur cuff, and it’s truly beautiful.

Your money then it’s no big deal but dang just reading these comments aggravates & disappoints me, I mean come on one lady said she’s. Been. waiting 6-8 months!!! What?!?! That’s crazy!! There’s no way a shipment from Australia or Russia would take that long on a sailboat!

Colette, thank you for the review. I love your box!
I know that each box is customized and different. Hope that mine will be as nice as yours.

The Coach bag could easily be an outlet discounted or outlet-specific bag, as it’s discontinued. Looks like one. We have Coach outlets everywhere in our major cities- I have 2 located close to me.

I think the necklace looks tarnished and also very cheap links. Funny how the source can’t be found online. Is it ” vintage” as in ” old deadstock”?

Wine stopper is extremely eclectic style and likely wouldn’t appeal to most of us who don’t use rocks in our decor.

I am so glad to see a review of this box again. Still is smoke and mirrors about the valuation and has iffy curation.
ALSO, it shows me that the company’s constant story of ” Supply is on the way from Europe” and ” Boxes are late due to supplier and customs in Europe” are not true.

Smoke and mirrors for overpriced things each of us could buy in our own personal choices easier and better.

Hi Mandy. I totally respect your opinion and appreciate you taking the time to read and comment on my review. This box may not be for you, but for me – I do really enjoy it. Could I head to my local coach outlet and pick out a handbag for around $150? Sure. Have I done that? You betcha! (fun fact – I actually worked at a coach outlet store while I was in college in the early 2000’s – so I fancy myself a little bit of a coach insider) – but to me, the fun of subscription boxes is having someone else curate selections for you. This box is pricey, no doubt – but to me, even with the crap-tastic shipping timeline the risk is still worth the reward.

Colette wrote a thoughtful review for the box that was created based on her likes and dislikes. She loves it! I read reviews that she wrote before and consider her an intelligent woman with a really good taste. I trust her judgment.
For people with trendy style like yourself, I think it would be a completely different box.
Also, you can exchange something you don’t like in a box, which is a huge plus in my opinion.
They do have to improve their shipping and once it happens they will have all of my sub budget 🙂

Colette

Aww, blushing! Thank you.

Lori

I don’t agree with you. It’s a nice box,
I love the bag, and Evocateur earrings along are $148 when you pay $159 for the entire box. Clearly, the value is there.

I got a Coach bag for my Spring box and it is a Outlet bag but very nice I see nothing wrong because the quality is there.

Reply ButtonReply

Mandy

But why not go and pick out your OWN Coach bag if that’s your ideal purse? You would at least get the style and color you most wanted. How much less money does this totally not NYC- fashion company charge for the surplus stock they buy?

If I hadn’t gotten one of the early boxes full of totally old warehouse stock that was absolute 80’s or 90’s merch., I never would have known because spoilers don’t show what I got and what this review shows. It’s not 5th Avenue style for anyone who shops in NYC for current and cutting edge trends.

Rita

Thank you, Colette. I like your box a lot. It’s interesting to see what other people get in their boxes. I received my Deluxe Sub Box a few days ago, it’s different from yours but is very nice, and I do love it.

Overrated, cheap & tacky.

Reply ButtonReply

Mandy

I totally agree. Cheap, tacky, overpriced old stock is what it is. They can’t deliver on their promises. I saw this 2 years ago. Why can’t the people who are throwing money at them for discontinued warehouse stock ( and outlet- routed purses) ?

I am so disappointed that I have yet to receive a box. I have purchased 4 boxes from 5th Ave including a membership and have yet to receive one. Thousands of dollars spent and still nothing to show for it. It is now Summer and yet I haven’t received My spring box. I have been patient and understand the wait. I Dont have a problem with that nor with their customer service as they have been responsive. While I appreciate the offer of a free gift I really do. I’d really just want a box. 5th Avenue what’s going on?

Dani

Thousands of dollars and you haven’t received anything yet?? What a pathetic company

Cindy

Yes and two of the boxes were purchased in January 🙁

Jennifer

Dear Cindy,
As we mentioned in our comments on this forum earlier, we continually work on improvement of our processes, including shipping.
Our latest Swiss Cosmetics and Everything boxes went out on time.
We still have residual delays with some of our earlier boxes such as Spring Time Box due to shipment delays from Europe. We have large shipments coming in shortly that will resolve this issue. As promised before, each of these delayed boxes is shipped with a gift as our apology.
Thank you,
5th Avenue Style Team

Hi 5th Avenue, What is your excuse for not shipping the Second Luxury Home Box you offered the beginning of December? My order was December 3rd. We are now past half a year and still nothing. Your shipping has not improved. You promised 6-8 weeks for this box and now it’s going on 6-8 months! SMH.

Jody

I really like the necklace but I wish it was a bit longer.
