The Badass Box Subscription Review – Summer 2018
The Badass Box is a lifestyle subscription box for bold women who love fashion and expressing themselves. To give an idea, the tagline on their about page is “Unabashed. Unapologetic. Uncensored. Unf*ckingstoppable.”
The box is curated by actress Shenae Grimes-Beech (who you may remember from the Beverly Hills 90210 reboot!) and Jessica Totillo Coster.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Badass Box Summer Box Review
My box was topped with a handwritten note from Shenae, one of the curators.
I love how thorough this info booklet is! There are descriptions of the items, prices, info about where to find the brands in question online/social media, and contact info for getting in touch with The Badass Box.
Perverse Luxe 2 Cat Eye Sunglasses – Retail Value $55.00
I LOVE these sunglasses! Sunglasses are my jam—I have countless pairs, but I’m always game for a new style. These sunglasses feature my favorite color combo—black and gold—and are a great midpoint between round sunglasses and retro cat-eyes. The packaging is really sleek, too. You get a magnet-shut box AND a silky pouch to store them in!
Doucce Freematic Eyeshadow Pro Palette Neutral Eye Finish, 1.4 g each – Retail Value $65.00
These colors are neutral enough to let me shake up my makeup routine without forcing me to abandon my classically neutral look. I like that the palette pairs a matte shade with a metallic shade to match it (though no two tones are exactly the same). I was impressed by the amount of pigment these colors bring to the table. Some of the lightest colors add more of a finish than a hue to my super pale skin. But I love how easy the other shades were easy to apply and build up.
iDeal of Sweden Phone Power Bank – Retail Value $54.99
I am so good at losing power banks like this one, mostly because the ones I typically get are on the small side. This one, on the other hand, is about the size of an actual phone. You might not be a big fan of that, based on your needs, but for me, the bigger size is better. I can slide this tool inside the inner pocket of my purse and head out for the day with no need to worry that my phone will run out of battery life. This charger can hold as much as two phone batteries and uses a 2.1A style USB charging port. Oh, and can we talk about the dark blue marble pattern? I love it! I want a bracelet or necklace to match it!
Kris Nations Lightning Bolt Earrings in Gold – Retail Value $38.00
I love these teeny tiny earrings! The lightning bolt shape is just edgy enough for my personality, but because they’re so understated, I could totally wear them to a sophisticated occasion. (Sometimes I feel out of place in super polished work outfits, so wearing these earrings with something like that will help me feel a little more me.) The earrings are 18K gold vermeil and only about a quarter inch big. They’re quickly becoming my everyday earrings!
I have combination skin that leans on the dry side (outside of my annoyingly oily T-zone), and usually, I find clay masks a little too drying on my skin. I don’t know if it’s because of the addition of the rosehip powder or vitamin C, but I felt like this pale green mask was just a bit gentler than the clay masks I’ve tried before. It did leave my skin feeling squeaky clean after use. I didn’t notice a ton of brightness or change in texture after the first use, but I’m eager to see what happens if I keep using this mask once every week or so.
Evil Queen Let’s Makeout Candle, 12 oz. – Retail Value $20.00
When it comes to home fragrances, I almost ALWAYS prefer traditionally “masculine” smells over frilly, floral scents. This candle is right up my alley with its mix of woody mahogany and teakwood aromas. I love the black color and the sassy name. It’s a big candle, too, at 12 oz. I would totally burn this myself or give it as a cheeky gift.
B. Toffee Canister, 3 oz. – Retail Value $6.95
Heck yes, chocolate! This toffee is deliciously salty, buttery, and sweet. I’m not typically a toffee fan, just because of how easy it gets stuck in my teeth, but this stuff was surprisingly forgiving. The tin is really cute, presentation-wise, so if I wanted to pass this off to a friend as a gift, it’s ready to rock.
The Verdict: I really liked this box, though I think it’s important to clarify the genre of “badass” they’re aiming for. It’s kind of a craft-cocktails-and-skinny-jeans-at-a-trendy-LA-bar kind of edgy. More of an Alexa Chung/Kristen Stewart than a Bjork/Grace Jones, if you see what I’m sayin’. If you’re the kind of badass whose dream wardrobe involves bold jewelry and black clothes… from Madewell or Chanel… then I think you’ll be pleased with the goodies you get here. I was really happy with the size and quality of the products I got, and I feel like they’re a bit more aesthetically my style than what I find in other women’s lifestyle boxes (which tend to feature bright colors and traditionally feminine shapes/designs, especially in their spring and summer boxes). The box is on the pricier end of what I usually budget out for a single subscription box, but I do believe the quality (and retail values) of the full-sized products makes the higher price feel valid.
To Wrap Up:
Value Breakdown: This box costs a total of $83.00 ($75.00 + $8.00 shipping), but I received $263.94 in retail value. That means that the proportional price of each item, when purchased via the box, is approximately:
- Sunglasses – $17.30
- Eyeshadow – $20.44
- Power bank – $17.29
- Earrings – $11.95
- Mask – $7.55
- Candle – $6.29
- Toffee – $2.19
