Tea Box Express June 2018 Review

You can usually expect one tea (sometimes more), one accessory, and one edible item (sometimes more) in this box. Occasionally there will be other tea-themed items as well:

There was a card asking you to share your box contents on social media. This subscription typically does not have an information card with it.

Greyston Bakery Brown Sugar Blondie (2.5 oz) – Buy an 8-piece assorted gift box for $25

This was soft and super moist and also quite rich. My husband and I were both fans. It is hard to get blondies right (my attempts at making them usually don’t end up so well) so I appreciate this. You can buy these at Whole Foods if you just want to try one; I saw them there last weekend.

Greyston Bakery Vegan Fudge Brownie (2.5 oz)

Greyston Bakery Vegan Fudge Brownie (2.5 oz) – Buy an 8-piece assorted gift box for $25

This was also soft and moist but I kind of think brownies are one of those things that just need dairy and eggs to have the right texture. It wasn’t bad – I’ll never get upset about chocolate products – but I think maybe a non-vegan brownie would’ve been a little better.

G + H Tea Services Loose Tea Measure

Sometimes you can find this brand on Amazon but I didn’t see this particular item there. In fact, I didn’t really even see any similar items there, so your guess is as good as mine regarding the value. With this measure, you can set it to the number of cups of tea you want and also the strength by sliding one part against the other, and then use it as a loose tea scoop. It seems to work pretty well although I will say, I usually just eyeball it for tea so this will take some getting used to.

Hepp’s Salt Co. Gourmet Sugar in Raspberry

Hepp’s Salt Co. Gourmet Sugar in Raspberry – Buy 2.5 oz for $6.95

I have no idea if this is the full-size package or not, but I’m guessing it’s a sample size because the picture on the Hepp’s website has a package weight on it, but you can see there isn’t one here. At any rate, this is absolutely beautiful (I think this is one of my favorite colors in food, and it’s all natural here). I tried some in a bit of tea and it did add some fruitiness although I prefer not to drink beverages with sugar in them so I am going to try some of the other ideas from the manufacturer’s website (topping for lemon bars, sugar cookies, etc.).

Ancient Sunrise Loose Leaf Tea – Retail Value $15

Although I enjoy a good flavored tea every now and then, the ones that disappear from my office fastest are the “plain” (unflavored) varieties. This is a mix of oolong and Chinese black tea and I love it. I have been drinking it nonstop when in the office for a few days now and there is still a lot left in the tin. (I have bronchitis and hot tea really helps keep me from coughing right now.) Even though the black tea in this blend is Asian-style, I think this appeals to a Western palate as well.

Verdict: I couldn’t calculate a total value for this month’s Tea Box Express due to some items not being available individually, or for purchase online at all, and due to some size uncertainties. However, the tea itself makes up almost half the cost of the box plus shipping, and I’d guess the other items together add up to at least $20, so I think you are getting your money’s worth. I am happy to have learned about a new tea company and I have never seen any of these items in a subscription box before so there is definitely a value in terms of discovery and curation as well.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today?  No, your subscription would start with the July box. From Tea Box Express:

Order by the 5th of the month to receive the same month's box. Order after the 5th of the month and receive your first box starting the next calendar month. If you make your purchase after the 5th but we have extra boxes, we'll let you know by email.

Coupon - Use coupon code MSA20 for 20% off your first month!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $31.49 (including shipping), so you are paying approximately $6.30 per item.

I like this a lot, they would have had me, but the$6.49 shipping fee was the deal killer. If they do away with the shipping fee, I’m in!
