Ofra Mystery Glam Bag Review – June 2018

Jessica Hapak
ByJessica HapakJun 25, 2018 | 29 comments

Ofra recently released a Mystery Glam Bag, and y’all know I love a good mystery box. This box promised five or more items with a value of at least $107.

FYI - this box is no longer available for purchase.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

About This Box

The Box: OFRA Mystery Glam Bag

The Cost: $25 + $3.50 shipping

The Products: 5 or more mini and full-sized makeup and skincare products. ($107 value)

OFRA Mystery Glam Bag June 2018 Review

Ofra Pressed Blush in Format, Full-Size!

Ofra Pressed Blush in Format, Full-Size! Retail Value $15

This pressed blush/bronzer arrived with the pan detached from the container, but Ofra customer service responded very quickly and have already sent out a replacement. This blush is described as a “warm bronze satin” and it is definitely too dark for my fair complexion, and it is a bit too dark to use as a bronzer as well. A little pigment goes a long way, and the quality of the powder itself seems pretty good.

Mini Highlighter in Rodeo Drive, 0.14 oz

Mini Highlighter in Rodeo Drive, 0.14 oz – Retail Value $16

I linked to the mini highlighter that comes in its own compact, however, this highlighter is meant to be stored in a Z-palette. That's a little inconvenient for me, however, I will say that Rodeo Drive is a gorgeous sun-kissed golden hue that can be built up to really amp up the wow factor. The pigment is great, and this also makes a really pretty eyeshadow.

Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Wonderland, Full-Size! Retail Value $20

The cost of this one lipstick is more than the cost of this box plus shipping (if you used the coupon they had running), and this is a lipstick that is worth the full price. It is SO fun! Wonderland is a gorgeous pink-purple duochome with blue undertones and a metallic finish, and I have basically been wearing this since I got it. It has pretty good staying power and is comfortable to wear, though it does have a slightly tacky finish.

Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Atlantis,

Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Atlantis, Full-Size! Retail Value $20

I am not positive the lipstick I linked to from the Ofra shop is the same Atlantis I received. My Atlantis is a lovely metallic peach-rose gold-nude lipstick that hints at gold depending on how the light hits it, and they describe the Atlantis on the website as a “neutral metallic brown.” All of that aside, this is another winner! I love the way this is a nude lipstick with enough of a color shift to add some fun. Like Wonderland, this had decent staying power (it didn't last through my fajitas at dinner, but that's a tall order to fill), and it was comfortable with a slightly tacky feeling when it dries.

Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Atlantis,

Eyeliner in Grapeful, Full-Size! - Estimated Value $9

This eyeliner pencil is one of the items that got discontinued, but the pencil eyeliners were selling for $9 prior. I was excited to get a purple eyeliner, but this product gets two thumbs down. The pigment was awful and hard to apply, and it felt like a hard waxy crayon. You can’t even tell it is purple! It is probably for the best this was discontinued- this pencil needs a better formula.

Derma Mineral Powder Foundation in Sandy Beach, Full-Size! - Estimated Value $35

I have so many feelings about this. First, this is a completely random mystery box so there was absolutely no assurances or guarantees I would get a foundation that matched my skin. On principle, I didn't want to like this, but it actually matched my skin really well? It blends easily and it looks natural while providing light coverage—this pairs really well with my tinted moisturizer. I know I am lucky to have gotten a foundation that a) actually matches my skin and b) actually works well, but I know this would be a big miss for most people. This is another item that was discontinued, but it sold for $35 prior.

Bonus! Ofra Lanyard

As far as bonus items this isn’t awful, but it isn’t something I will be using. If I had gotten this a few years ago I would have happily kept my college id and keys on this.

Here are the swatches! From top to bottom we have the foundation, blush, highlighter, Atlantis, Wonderland, and the eyeliner. As you can see, the foundation blends into my skin incredibly well—this swatch was when I realized I may have randomly lucked out into getting a perfectly matched foundation.

Here is the look I did using this mystery bag! I applied my tinted moisturizer and then puffed the powder foundation into my skin. I applied the blush/bronzer into the outer crease of my eyelid because I knew it would be too dark for my cheeks. I went in with rodeo drive on the rest of my eyelids and also on my cupids bow, nose, and cheeks. I tried to line my eyes with the eyeliner, but it barely showed up after several swipes. Finally, I applied Atlantis!

Here is the look out in the sun where I feel extra ~glowy~. The necklace and headband are from my Your Bijoux Mystery Box.

When I got home from eating fajitas, I decided to try out Wonderland. It was love at first use!

The Verdict: This mystery box was a winner. Some of the products I received were newly discontinued, and my blush arrived broken. However, this box cost $28.50 ($25 + $3.50 shipping), and I calculated an estimated value of $115. The value is even better if you were able to nab the box for $15 plus shipping. The eyeliner is the only true miss for me, and that is the lowest-valued item in the box. I believe this mystery box was a way for Ofra to clear out old inventory since they just redesigned their product packaging, but that doesn’t bother me—if a product is good, it’s good regardless of what the packaging looks like.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? No, this is no longer available.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $28.50 and I calculated a total value of $115. That means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Blush: $3.75
  • Highlighter: $3.75
  • Atlantis: $5
  • Wonderland: $5
  • Foundation: $8.75
  • Eyeliner: $2.25

I know this mystery box had a lot of variations, so if you got one, let me know what you received below!

That’s why it’s a mystery bag!! Every time a company does mystery bags people buy them knowing it’s completely random products and want to complain bcuz of the products you got from the purchase you made, it’s not Ofra’s fault you bought the randomly selected mystery bag!! The company is not looking your information up and sending you out products that will work for you, consider yourself lucky if your products are all working for you!! I don’t have any YouTube channel I’m a complete random person who has never personally purchased from Ofra and everything I received except 1 product I can use that will work for me and my skin tone!! But again I knew I was setting myself up for failure with the products I was getting, but if they didn’t work out I wouldn’t have had anybody to blame but myself, I’m a grown up and nobody made me buy this bag but me. People need to quit complaining and quit blaming other people for your actions, take responsibility for your own actions and purchases!! I hate to come to this website anymore and read all the “Debbie Downers”, complaining about what they bought or ridiculing this website for reviewing certain boxes which is there passion here and making informed decisions to review a box but also letting everybody know upfront what was up with the company and box itself “warning people if you will” about these boxes and the company’s that are out there scamming us as the consumer, I’m sorry but I love the job that you guys do here as a whole at MSA, letting us the consumer know about these scams and you people downing MSA for reviewing and giving us information about a company that’s doing these things!! I want to know who’s good and who the scammers are!! I love the job you guys do here at MSA keep doing what you do bcuz you do it well and these sharks that are swarming the comment section need to stop and let these companies do there job and quit blaming the company’s for the products you ordered as a mystery bag and didn’t get what you wanted!! If you’re 1 of these sharks you need to take your $25 bucks and go buy the lip stick in your shade or the foundation in your shade and quit blaming everyone but yourself for your purchase!!! It’s so exhausting reading all the negative comments and complaints here!!! Thank you very much MSA for the job you guys do here bcuz with all the negativity and complaining I read here I couldn’t do this job and read all the complaining and blaming comments and not come back at these sharks with harsh comments back, there’s a certain point people can get to and with these sharks here they push you to that point!! I just again want to THANK YOU MSA for the job you guys do here, it’s phenomenal and people need to thank you instead of put you down for informing them with the information you give us readers here!! I’m sorry for biting back here but I can do it I don’t think you guys can or will!!

Did anyone check up on AnonymousReader after that post? I think she may have had a stroke, haha…

Lol.

I was pretty happy with my mystery box–I got a full-size bronzer, three lip products in colors I’d never buy that are actually gorgeous (like the purple Jessica got), the highlighter, and a blue-grey eyeshadow.
I also got a lanyard which I tossed because I don’t need their garbage.

I received a Liquid Foundation in my Ofra Mystery Box and was stunned to find that it matched…. When I received it, I genuinely wondered if maybe they located our Social Media? I was shocked that out of all of the Foundation shades…. Mine matched almost perfect.

I received a liquid lipstick in ultimate red and lip gloss in Orchid which is being replaced because it had what looked like a tester sticker peeled off, I received the bronzer in Format but mine is not broken , lip pencil in baby doll, shimmer white eyshadow in plastic , and matte white eyeshadow godet in vanilla . I am bummed I did not get highlighter since that is main reason I bought bag and at least 75% of others did. But at least all my items are usable.

I would have loved your box! Mine was terrible. 🙁

Sara

Same here!! I would’ve loved any highlighter. I got a gold liquid lipstick, gold eye primer, green eyeliner and a lipgloss palette that looks like something for a 5 year old. The only thing i’ll be keeping is the blush/bronzer in Format.

Customer Service sent me a $10 gift card instead of a replacement. I added a discount code: Google30 for 30% off – so got a liquid lipstick which was $20 for $4 plus $3.50 shipping – $7.50.

Will this be added to swaps so we can switch out colors? I wish I got some of the foundation that folks keep mentioning and would love to swap for it!

How did I miss this??? 😭😭😭

Andi

My bag was a total fail. I got the same blush/bronzer (broken like yours), a liquid foundation in a color too dark for me, translucent powder in dark (I am pale), corrector in beige medium (not even sure what this is), lip gloss (I think) in cherry mocha and eyeliner in evergreen. The only thing I’ll use is the lip gloss. I think it sucks that they send out things like foundation and powders that are not universal.

Ugh, first and last time I fall for this bag. Even at 18.50 there is nothing I’ll use. I received a broken blush, used pencil, lip palette so old it’s discolored, a product with no description, and a gold liquid lip. So mad! Lesson learned.

Reply ButtonReply

Lisa

Their customer service is pretty good I am getting a new lip gloss because mine has sticker residue on cap that looked like peeled off tester sticker.

Reply ButtonReply

Nikki

Maybe you should contact customer service? She states hers was damaged int he review and they replaced? Sounds like an error. Everything I got was pristine condition.

Reply ButtonReply

Brandi

I got these same two liquid lips and powder. My other items were two eyeshadow refill pans and the full size blind the haters highlighter.

Reply ButtonReply

Mika

I’m sooooo glad I passed on the temptation. The liquid lipsticks look great, but everything else would have been a fail.

Reply ButtonReply

Wendy

I received 4 items as well – I reached out to them, and the gave me a $10 gift card as well. I’m happy about that as it was an inexpensive bag, and now I can put it towards one of those pretty liquid lipsticks!

Clarissa

This was my first Ofra makeup purchase and I’m pretty happy with the bag. I got Blind the haters highlighter, mini refill highlighter in Rodeo drive, a blush in Format, a liquid lipstick in Plumas, a eyeliner in Evergreen and a makeup sponge. Not sure why they are sending out lanyards. Maybe had a bunch leftover from a conference or something.

Reply ButtonReply

Susan

I only rec’d 5 cosmetic items, but I like them. Evergreen green eyeliner, Go Black greenish black liquid eye shadow (yay! I have green eyes!), Fifth Avenue coppery-gold metallic liquid lipstick (I’m hoping it will still be okay come xmas party season if I keep it sealed tight between uses in the summer), Format bronzer (probably too dark for me even with a tan), and a muted pinkish powder blush that doesn’t have a label on it. I think I was lucky considering I’m a pale girl that gets close to porcelain by the end of winter and only manages to look medium beige at best by the end of summer. The lanyard will work in the summer to put my house keys on while I’m out walking the dog–I won’t have to worry about wearing something with pockets.

My blush/bronzer was separated from the case too. Just busted out the super glue to the rescue. Lol. I got 3 liquid lipsticks in colors I would never buy myself – Malibu, Honolulu (which actually works!) and 5th Ave (the gold which I’ll try as a topper). It’s neat to try different colors I guess. I also got a lipliner in bright red (not my color), a mini highlighter and lanyard. I’m kind of bummed I got so many lip products but at the same time I’m glad I didn’t get a foundation in the wrong shade. At least I can play around with what I got and experiment. I guess that’s the fun of a mystery bag!

Just here to say I LOVE the way Wonderland looks on you! It’s a color I could never pull off, unless I used it as a topper, but it’s absolutely stunning. I’ve recently rediscovered Ofra’s lipsticks .. they really are wonderful. 🙂

Thanks ladies! It’s such a fun color.

I also love that Wonderland on you! It is STUNNING! BTW, I just got back from a cruise. I would have loved the lanyard! 🙂

I have as yet to receive my order. My shipment notification says a label was created on 6/19 and that’s it. I emailed them today, waiting to hear back.

Lia

I received the same Format Bronzer and it was also detached from the case. I hope they would replace it as well. I was not too happy but not really complaining considering it was only $18.50. I didn’t understand the lanyard though 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Rebecca

Mine was detached also And I got a reply back three days later telling me they would be happy to give me a $10 credit that I can use in the store on the next purchase. I just emailed them and told them that several other people receive the bronzer detached also and they were shipped a replacement. I feel this is a fail on customer service for me

Reply ButtonReply

Cathleen

Glad to know you got a great bag. Unfortunately I wasn’t as lucky. I only received four items, one of which was the bronzer (too dark) another of which was pressed foundation in the darkest color (way too dark). Also white eyeliner (won’t wear) and a pretty lip. When I contacted customer service, they issued me a $10 gift certificate to make up for the missing item. But hey, a mystery is just that, and sometimes you don’t luck out.
