Mariér Box “Summertime Fun” June 2018 Review

Here is the info sheet for the box.

Jaiden Madison Lip Gloss in Ladylike,

Jaiden Madison Lip Gloss in Ladylike, Full-Size! Retail Value $20

This lip gloss was surprisingly impressive—it is not sticky AT ALL. After I applied it I kept rubbing my lips together waiting for the stickiness to set in, but it never did. This honestly feels the same on my lips as my tinted Kopari Lip Love, which is probably the best compliment I could give to a lip gloss. The color, Ladylike, is a really pretty sheer pink with gold shimmer. On my natural lips it looks like my regular lip color with hints of gold when the light hits, and I love it.  You can see it swatched above the eyeshadow palette a few photos down.

Cargo Shanghai Nights Palette,

Cargo Shanghai Nights Palette, Full-Size! Retail Value $34

I consider Cargo to be a pretty good brand, and I loved the bright packaging on the top of this palette—I was really excited to open it up and get to playing. I loved the fun and unique colors included in this palette—really I loved everything about this palette until I actually tried to use the eyeshadows. The pigment on these shadows is simply awful.

Here is the palette swatched below the lip gloss. If you can believe it, each color is two swipes. I was so disappointed in this—Cargo, what happened? I also couldn’t find this palette for sale from a reputable website—it is no longer on the Cargo website, and it is sold out from Nordstrom. That would leave me to believe this palette is a bit old, however that doesn’t really bother me as long as the product is brand new and in great condition when it gets to me. Based on other users reviews, this palette was lacking in pigmentation even when it was brand new.

Be Bath Escapes Body Mist in Toasted Vanilla Sugar, 8 oz

Be Bath Escapes Body Mist in Toasted Vanilla Sugar, 8 oz – Retail Value $4.79

Guys, I am going to be honest—I didn’t know Kmart was still in business! They are, and they’re the main seller of this brand from what I could find online. This body spray was a pleasant surprise- the scent reminds me of brown sugar and baking cookies, and it smells exactly the same way I remember Bath and Bodyworks Warm Vanilla Sugar Fine Fragrance Mist to smell like, only at about $10 cheaper. I am all about cheaper dupes when they hold their own against their pricier counterpart, so way to go Be Bath Escapes!

Sea Berry Soapery White Chocolate Raspberry Body Butter, 3.5 oz

Sea Berry Soapery White Chocolate Raspberry Body Butter, 3.5 oz – Retail Value $6

Mariér Box likes to feature artisan and custom made items along with well-known brands, and this body butter from Etsy shop Sea Berry Soapery fits that bill perfectly. This body butter is absolutely luscious, and it smells just like white chocolate raspberry. My nose is pretty sensitive to artificial scents, but to me, this smelled just like a white chocolate covered raspberry. I was also pleasantly surprised that the raspberry scent was noticeable and not overpowered by the white chocolate. This body butter was hydrating, sank in quickly, and didn’t leave my skin greasy. In short, this is a winner.

Bonus! Pineapple Tote Bag

How cute is this tote bag? I love the bright pineapple against the black and white stripes, and this is the perfect size for carrying my lunch to work or a book and some sunscreen to the pool. This probably won’t fit my beach towel,  but I am okay with that. This goes perfectly with the Summertime Fun theme of this months box.

The Verdict: I enjoyed my first month (and second box, ever) from Mariér Box! I appreciated the mix of well-known brands like Cargo along with the handmade body butter, and the lip gloss and body mists were great finds as well. The biggest bummer about this box is the color payoff on the Cargo palette, but I hold Cargo responsible for that. Value-wise, Mariér Box promises a value of at least $40 and I calculated a value of $64.79, not including the bonus tote. I am happy with that value, and I look forward to the July box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? No. Next month's box ships on the 4th.

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I’ve received several Cargo products in beauty boxes and they all pretty much suck, especially their eyeshadow and blush. I don’t know how they stay in business at those prices when drugstore makeup is cheaper and better.

I loved the photo/storage box this came in – what a cool idea! Unfortunately mine had split a little.

The pigment of the cargo palette is underwhelming and the fallout is bad when dry, however it works great wet! The double ended brush it came with is nice, too.

The lipgloss was amazing, definitely my favorite item of the box. It has natural ingredients and is more of amazing fancy hydrating tinted balm than what I typically imagine as a lip gloss. My lips were soft into the next day- that never happens for me!

My batch of body butter was mostly a dud. It was super crazy greasy and left undissolved wax pellets behind. It did make my skin softer several hours later, but I can’t deal with the greasy feel. I’ll be saving it as an after bath knee/elbow treatment.

I also wasn’t a huge fan of the KMART spray. Mine didn’t have much scent, just alcohol. I also thought of was strange to send two different scents that can’t be layered. It did hydrate my skin though, so that was nice.

Overall, I liked the box (and the lipgloss was amazing) but I don’t think the curation was as tight as last months. Higher value, though!

This is my second month. Evidently I was the first 3 month subscriber and was sent a couple of extra items last month that was super sweet of her! And let me just say OMG on the bath bomb, cute as can be!!! I got my box this month and thankfully it was inside a bag. The box itself split in transit. I hadn’t opened the cargo pallette yet so that is dissappointing. Can we use them wet? Maybe we could get better color payoff that way? The bag is cute too!

Cargo used to be a great brand, when the products were still made in Canada. I’ve noticed palettes at discount stores bearing the Cargo brand that are now made in Taiwan. The quality just isn’t there anymore.

The lippie and body butter both sound dreamy, and I love the box itself! This goes on my wishlist.

Did anyone contact Cargo to find out If this box is an authorized distributor or if Cargo have them permission to even put it in there? With these new boxes I’m running into this a lot. There’s a “hero” type item from a well known brand in a box that really shouldn’t be able to afford to send it out and when you look for it online you can’t find it listed anywhere. I was able to contact Tarte about a different box that included one of their tanning products. The tanner should have come as a kit with a mit, but came alone. The whole box price was $18 and the tanner retails for $39. The box hasn’t been out long at all. I emailed Tarte and they gave me a list of all the boxes they affiliate with and said anyone else sending Tarte items, well those items can’t be verified as being from Tarte. There’s no telling where these mystery products are coming from.

The box it was sent to me in was also reusable and plastic not cheap colored cardboard but the kind you find in stores for storage. For me personally it was an awesome surprise since it wasn’t even listed as an item and yet it usually sells for around $4/$5
