Eclectic Hearts Subscription Box Review June 2018

Here’s the info card that came in this month’s cardboard envelope. I like that part of my subscription was donated to the Bloomington Revitalization Project, which supports a struggling community in Illinois.

I also got this pin, which is just under an inch wide. I like how simple and bold it is!

One feature of this subscription is that you not only get a piece of artwork but information about the artist as well. This month’s artist is Greg Fairbank, a photographer currently working out of Mexico City.

Greg’s piece is a photo of what looks like an alley or courtyard between nearly identical sets of buildings. The 8″ x 10″ print is on an 8.5″ x 11″ sheet of sturdy archival paper with a velvety smooth finish on the front side. I like the symmetry (something Greg points out that he enjoys on the info card) and the appearance of the child as a moment of movement amidst all of the strong lines and geometric shapes.

The Verdict: I really love supporting independent artists—I prefer buying indie art prints over mass-produced designs or posters that I see at home decor chain stores. It’s a little different getting a print that you don’t pick yourself, I’ll admit. There aren’t any options to note what your personal style or preferences are (favorite colors, favorite media, etc.), so you’re at the whim of the curators behind this subscription. While I can appreciate this photo, it isn’t exactly what I’d typically pick to display in my home. However! I think the intention of this subscription is to help you build out lush gallery-style walls with plenty of eye-catching variety. I’ve tried making a gallery wall myself before, and it is trickier than it seems—it’s a bit like putting together a puzzle in terms of fitting different shapes together and making sure the colors/content of the photos mesh aesthetically. I could see prints like this one coming handy as extra “puzzle pieces” if you will!

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get the items in this box if I sign up today?: No. Boxes ship on the 4th of every month. You can see sneak peeks of upcoming artwork in the “Dreams of Nature and New Spaces” image here.

Coupon – Use code MSA10 to save 10% off your first box!

Value Breakdown: This package cost $19.99 (+ free shipping), meaning the print must also have a value of $19.99. (I did receive a bonus pin in the box, but I’m considering it an extra rather than a recurring item/something that would contribute to the value.)
