Trunk Club For Women March 2018 Review

My month’s trunk arrived to me in its Trunk Club trademark cardboard shipping box fashioned to resemble a suitcase. I am rather fond of the personalized details in their packaging, especially the note from my stylist and itemized invoice.

Here is a close up of the list of items I received and their costs.

Michael Kors Black & White Floral Jacquard Ruffle Dress

Michael Kors Black & White Floral Jacquard Ruffle Dress, size 3x — Retail Value $145

I rarely find Kors’ designs to be exciting or fresh, but I enjoyed the material of this dress a great deal. The floral jacquard fabric has a retro, mod feel that I absolutely love. The main negative to me was the awkward ruffle at the bottom. The length seemed a bit long and the dress came off more dowdy than flirty on my frame. This dress would be fantastic at the office with a cropped blazer with a bright red or blue heel to bring an amazing pop of color. The black and white make it such a versatile piece you will get a lot of wear from!

Peplum Hem Satin Bomber Jacket by Rebel Wilson X Angels

Peplum Hem Satin Bomber Jacket by Rebel Wilson X Angels, size 2x - Retail Value $145

I am a fan of satin bomber jackets, especially the vintage varsity/souvenir variety that have the embroidered tigers on them. They are so incredibly classic and effortlessly cool. I wanted to like this pink satin bomber jacket, but the peplum ruffle hem turned me off. I felt like a curtain valence or dust ruffle was attached to me. Don’t get me wrong, ruffles can be a great touch, but on some items like this jacket, it is a poor design choice. Otherwise, the jacket has a nice stretch and the shiny satin material amps up this normally casual piece. Wear this jacket with a floral bodycon dress, hoop earrings,  and your favorite gladiator heel sandals for a sassy night out on the town look!

Evans Tropical Print Tunic Top

Evans Tropical Print Tunic Top, size 20w - Retail Value $45

I am a fan of mini dresses, so I initially thought this tunic may be one. Alas, this may be even too scandalous as a dress for me! I am a fan of flowers, especially tropical prints, so I appreciated the florals on this top. The top has limited stretch and has a tent-like cut that makes it loose and incredibly comfortable. I paired the shirt with black leggings and khaki booties to bring out the neutrals from the top. I could also see this being styled tucked in with high-waist, denim, bell bottom pants and ornate beaded sandals for a boho style look or tucked into a black pencil skirt, open toe heels, and a faux leather biker jacket for a chic office to date night ensemble.

Olive Lace Insert Sleeve Top by Sejour

Olive Lace Insert Sleeve Top by Sejour, size 2x - Retail Value $79

Olive is quickly becoming one of my favorite colors, so I was pleased to see this top included in my March selections. The lace insert adds an ultra-feminine touch to an otherwise flowy, yet plain top. The fabric isn’t terribly stretchy, but it is meant to be roomier on the figure. I paired this top with khaki booties, my favorite large brim hat, and oversized glasses for a polished casual look. This would look wonderful with high waist jeans, leopard flats, and some layered gold chains for a comfortable, yet sassy look.

Star Print Split Side Top by Glamorous

Star Print Split Side Top by Glamorous, size 18 — Retail Value $85 (On sale for $56.94!)

Initially, I was not sure how I felt about this boxy tunic. I can see the appeal with the Summer of 1976 Bicentennial vibes this top gives off. The red, white, and blue stars have a vintage quality that appeals to me. It is like a piece of wearable pop art. This top is incredibly stretchy due to the polyester blend fabric. You will feel like Sporty Spice in this number, so opt to wear it along with a high ponytail, lots of bangles, and your favorite trainers!

Stripe Ponte Pencil Skirt by Sejour, size 3x - Retail Value $79

I am a sucker for a good ponte fabric pencil skirt. Ponte is a structured, yet immensely stretchy fabric. If you want to embrace your curves in an extremely flattering way, get a ponte skirt. I was tempted to add this to my ponte skirt, but I somehow resisted! I opted to style this as a bookend to the star shirt look. I paired it with a classic white tee, white retro pentagon shaped sunglasses, and a red and white polka dot scarf/ascot. I am serving Fourth of July picnic realness, my darlings! I can envision this skirt pairing amazingly with a tucked in a denim button down, double buckle belt, and black booties! That’s a blue ribbon winning outfit if I do say so myself!

Asymmetrical Top in Ink Brush by Rebel Wilson X Angels Size 2x — Retail Value $79

Generally, I have enjoyed Rebel Wilson’s X Angels line, but there are always exceptions. This top is one of them. I do not like the cut on this whatsoever, nor do I like how the fabric drapes on my hips. I don’t find this piece flattering and the print and asymmetrical cut seem immensely dated. To boot, it just doesn’t fit my style profile other than it is a brand I like. I am sure this may be someone else’s cup of tea, but not for me. Hard pass on this one.

Pleat Ruffle Top in Yellow by Lost Link,

Pleat Ruffle Top in Yellow by Lost Link, size 4x - Retail Value $64

I adore shades of yellow and orange, so I was drawn to this top immediately. This may even be my favorite piece in this month’s box. Not only do I love the color on this top, but I love the subtle pleated ruffles on the sleeves and bottom. You might be saying, “Nicole you just whined about peplum ruffles on another item, but are drooling over this top!” Yes, true, but I feel the ruffles on this top are far less ostentatious due to the pleating. It might help that this shirt’s material is far more lightweight as well. I paired the top with dark denim jeans from my last Shoedazzle review and black wedge heels. This would look great with a rust pencil skirt and open toe, platform, wedges, bangles, and a floppy hat  for a cute warm-weather look. Ultimately, I passed on this one due to the cost.

Studded Square Sunglasses in Red and Gold by BP

Studded Square Sunglasses in Red and Gold by BP - Retail Value $14

I am a bit of a sunglass fiend, so you bet your dupa I was pleased to see a pair in my March Trunk Club box! I love warm shades and hues, so this deep red paired with gold stud accents was a winner. These sunglasses are understated and classic, but the gold studs bring a trendy va-va voom that makes them stand out. The glasses themselves are made of a lightweight plastic, so they won’t be irritating to wear for long lengths of time. Also, at $14 you can’t beat the price!

Initial Stud Earring in “N” by Madewell

Initial Stud Earring in “N” by Madewell - Retail Value $28

Maybe it is due to copious amounts of time watching Laverne and Shirley as a kid, but I have always been a sucker for monogram or personalized initial items. In college I would go to craft stores and buy the embroidered “N” patches and iron them onto polo shirts and cardigans. I even had a polo shirt with a black and white “N” on it in this same Cooper Black font, go figure?! My stylist, Stefania, somehow dug into the vaults of my mind for this item! This stud is cute and you can always spell out items or wear different letters to represent loved ones, which I find adorable. The only issue for me is how tiny this earring is! It is so itsy bitsy, I thought I was going to lose it putting it on. To be honest, I was expecting this to be a larger brooch style pin and would have definitely put it in my keep pile had it been. I do, however, appreciate they had an “N.” Us Nicoles, Natalies, Nancys, Ninas, etc truly get the short end of the stick with the lack of letter “N” items, I tell ya!

Noah Tiered Platform Derby in Black

Noah Tiered Platform Derby in Black, size 9.5 — Retail Value $89.95

These creeper/oxford style shoes make me think of an edgier Pee Wee Herman shoe. You too can be a rebel and a loner in these snazzy leather shoes. I love oxfords myself, but the sole was a bit off-putting to me. Reminded me of teeth for some reason? Regardless, these shoes were comfortable when I tried them on and had some elasticity in the leather upper part of the shoe. These would pair great with a suspender skirt, striped top, and knee socks or tights for a tough school girl look or with dress pants, a floral blazer, and button down for a high brow art office ensemble.

Verdict: This month’s Trunk Club selections from my stylist, Stefania, felt more personalized than some of the boxes in the past. The Rebel Wilson jacket and KORS dress both missed with me due to their ruffle details, but I see why she selected both pieces due to my Pinterest board and feedback I provided in the past. The effort shows! My favorite items this month were the Lost Ink top and Sejour pencil skirt, but I couldn’t justify keeping either due to a trip I was going on. I have said it before, but I absolutely love the Nordstrom Trunk Club app. Other subscription boxes I review allow you to provide feedback in a small paragraph, but being able to carry on continuous messages via their instant messenger system is convenient and handy! It is a feature I will always rave about!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Trunk Club curates its boxes based on each individual’s preferences as well as what’s available. What you get might not be the same as what I got, but you also might get something that fits your style and body even better than the looks above! Sign up and see what they choose for you!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $25 with free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the 11 items inside is $856.95. The cost of each item is listed alongside it above, but if I choose to keep anything, the $25 cost of the box would also be applied to the purchase. That’s an average $77.90 an item, which is on par with the brands included.

Thanks, Sara! I loved the ruffles on it. And anything mustard is everything as far as I am concerned!

Too bad you didn’t like that the pink jacket. Then you’d have had a jacket to wear with you “bad Sandy” heels 🙂

I think that Michael Kors dress was beyond flattering on you.

Nicole Rieder

Thanks, KS! I think I would have loved it a little tighter. More like a wiggle dress cut!

Aarjullor

I agree! I see nothing dowdy about it. I really like the yellow shirt and striped pencil skirt. The rest was no bueno. Especially those shoes, ugh. They look like a pair of cheap imitation of a Stella McCartney pair that I’ve been hating on for a while.

Aajullor, those were the two pieces I loved best. That pencil skirt was so cute!
