Tribe Beauty Box April 2018 Review

This month’s box includes products from different categories that are great additions to anyone’s makeup kit. Let’s see what I got!

There are three cards included. The first is a card with the theme “Just Bloom, Baby” and a description and value of each product. The small cards are 20% off coupons for Ruby May Cosmetics and Maskeraide, two brands that are included this month.

Marc Jacobs Coconut Setting Mist, 30ml/1oz

Face: Marc Jacobs Coconut Setting Mist, 30ml/1oz – Estimated Value $10.45 (buy a 3.8oz bottle for $39)

This is the first setting spray that I’ve used that feels hydrating and not crunchy on my face. I’ll admit, I actually don’t use it as a setting spray, but prefer it as a refresher throughout the day. It helps soothe mid-day tight skin and allows me to blend out my foundation if it needs a retouch. The pump seems to be tripping people up though. You have to push the pump all the way down to get a fine mist, otherwise you get more of a spitting effect. The bottle comes with a little tag explaining this.

Maskeraide Hydrating Sheet Masks, 4 masks

Skin: Maskeraide Hydrating Sheet Masks, 4 masks – Retail Value $21.60 USD ($5.40 USD/$7 CAD each)

Yay for sheet masks! There are four different masks to address varying skin concerns like refreshing, lifting, brightening, and restoring. All are hydrating with no artificial fragrances. I typically mask once a week and love receiving multiples. There is plenty of serum in the packets to apply to the back of your hands and neck/chest too. My skin has looked soothed and hydrated after each of these and I find that my makeup goes on like a dream after.

Tool: Ruby May Cosmetics 861 Dual Brow Brush – Retail Value $18.50 (found here for $14.50)

This double-ended brow tool is perfect for filling in and taming brows. The angled brush end tapers to a fine point so creams or powders can be applied with hair-like strokes. The spoolie is soft enough to blend product and brush brows for grooming.

Too Faced La Creme Lipstick in Razzle Dazzle Rose

Lips: Too Faced La Creme Lipstick in Razzle Dazzle Rose – Retail Value $22 (found here for $19.80)

This is my favorite product in this box! This is one variation of the lip product subscribers could receive. I love the color and the packaging is beautiful. The formula is super hydrating and glides on like silk. When it wears off, it leaves a nice even flush of color without pilling or caking. The subtle vanilla scent is lovely. I think this may be my new essential lip product.

Eyes: Ruby May Cosmetics & Color Shadow Palette, 1#P6 – Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $15.99)

So much shimmer! This palette has 6 shimmer shades in the warm-tone family. The shadows are very powdery and fluff everywhere. They do blend well and can be used with a damp brush for a foil finish. I probably won’t reach for this palette much because I prefer palettes with some matte shades to create an entire look.

Here are swatches of the eyeshadows and lipstick both inside and in sunlight.

When I took this picture, I’d already been running errands for several hours. I did use the setting spray as a proper setting spray and think it held up well. I have the lipstick on and I tried to create a look with the eyeshadow palette without any extra products. I don’t think the shadows blended as well without a matte transition shade and really work best when used as accents.

Verdict: This box has a value of $90.54 which falls below their promise of a value of at least $100 but is more than doubles the $41.99 box cost. My favorite product is the Too Faced Lipstick and, as always, I love sheet masks. I like the concept of including items from different categories to help build my makeup collection. This box is a little more expensive than other makeup boxes but I think that the value of the brands, attention to detail, and great curation make it worth it if you are wanting to try a variety of products It is also a bi-monthly sub so you are only billed every other month.

  1. Full spoilers for their most recent box are in the comment section of their latest post on Facebook.

  2. Way too sketchy for me..sorry tribe..you blew it..screwed the pooch BIG time..I’m over you..and so are most of your subscribers I’ve met. You’re done in my book. Too bad..we were all excited about ypu and all of “this” …smh..bad business

  3. Didn’t care for this box, not happy the value was not over $100, feels like false advertising. They used a combination of USD and some of the products they gave the value in Canadian dollars so total was over $100. There was a big mess with the LE box and some people are questioning the authenticity of the products, specifically the too faced melted lippies that did not come in a box or have a sticker on it, so no batch number. June box is being skipped so I hope they come back better in August.

  4. You guys should really let people know that Tribe is skipping their June box due to all the aforementioned issues people just talked about on the comments here. Tribe sent out an email about it and refunds a few weeks ago. I figured I would of seen something about it posted on here, but never did.

  5. June was supposed to be my first month, but I cancelled after all the mess with broken, unboxed, discontinued, missing and suspicious products. Finally got my refund.

  6. Canceled after 2 disasters of a box. The RV is WAY inflated as all the included colors were being cleared out for at least 50% off online. Products are all purchased through “third parties”, not from the brand, meaning no guarantee they are even real. June box barely broke even when taking into consideration the actual selling price of all the items. The LE box was the same story – tiny sample sizes of everything except the one palette, that came broken. They were not able to send me out a replacement, instead offered me a “refund” of $7. I was able to swatch two of the colors though, and it was NOT the same quality as the same product I’ve swatched at Sephora (real product = silky/creamy feel with heavy pigment. Tribe product = lighter pigment and a dry/powdery consistency), which makes me believe all the reviews that the products are all knock-offs.

  7. i love too faced lipsticks, i have a dozen of them. they feel good on and last a good while. and the case is so pretty. also, i love your reviews!

  8. I wasn’t thrilled with my box. When I signed up, I thought a full size MJ setting spray was included. I was disappointed with the palette as well. I cancelled and was told I was too late to do so. I had to school them on their own FAQ, after that I was able to cancel. I’ll stick with Boxy Charm, at half the price and a higher RV.

  9. I was thrilled with my box. I loved everything in it. Thanks to Tribe introducing me to MaskerAide I have ordered some of their other products. Tribe is skipping June and making adjustments to the box and will be back in August better than ever. Excited to see!
