Papergang is a monthly stationery subscription box from quirky UK design team, Ohh Deer. Each month they partner with a different artist and have a theme to bring you paper goods and desk accessories.

Papergang May 2018 Box

They always have really stellar packaging designed especially by the featured artist each month. This month's artist is Hello!Lucky and features bright, fun motifs like fruits with faces and wild animals and other such things that I live for.

Usually, the back of the box has a paper cut out craft designed by Daniel Randle. This month is an armadillo. I must admit I was a little discouraged after last month's attempt at the included turtle craft and decided to save this armadillo for a rainy day. 🙂

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Papergang May 2018 Review

Papergang includes a fun little info booklet each month that matches the box and theme of the contents! Let's go through it together...

Open the booklet and you'll find the contents of this box (Box #27). This month's featured artist, Hello!Lucky. Their designs look so familiar to me—especially the little heart with eyes that's on the front of the box—which is a fun first for me with Papergang. I'm dying to know where I've seen their stuff before! Perhaps I'll find out on the following pages...

Papergang May 2018 Artist Interview

The Ohh Deer crew that curates Papergang starts by introducing Hello!Lucky, telling that it was founded by two sisters in 2003. So, these gals have been around! Then they jump into an interview that covers where the name Hello!Lucky came from, what inspires them, and where they get all their punny ideas (turns out they're just naturals).

Papergang May 2018 Artist Feature

Here they talk about their use of neon colors and give readers a little tip-off to look out for their use of holographic foil going forward. UMM, FUN! The interviewers inquire about their efforts in the feminist movement, and they talk a bit about the protest designs they've created to inspire young ladies, as well as the sign-making parties they've hosted.

Papergang May 2018 Artist Spotlight

Here are just a few featured pieces that Hello!Lucky created exclusively for Ohh Deer (which you can purchase here). They're sooo adorable and amazing and makes me smile like crazy! On the opposite page, there's a little memo encouraging peeps to peek at the Papergang blog for more interviews, free wallpapers, and more.

Finally, a cute little Hello!Lucky page you can color in, with a note at the bottom that provides a link to more printables. And, of course, a reminder about Father's Day (but the UK Father's Day, which has a different date than the US one!).

On the back cover is a little ad that might look familiar to Papergang subscribers! Find out more info about their referral program at papergang.ohhdeer.com/faq.

A5 Linen Notebook - Listed Value About $15.23 USD (£12.95)

Hello, beautiful! If I ever found myself in a situation where my existence is completely fueled by new, well-made notebooks, Papergang would pretty much be my lifeline. And since I'm gathering so many good ones, who knows, maybe I'll even muster the gusto to pull out my favorite pen and write in one. *gasps!* This notebook has a softcover, but a substantial one—its cover is actually wrapped with a heather blue linen. Amazing. Inside the front and back covers are a collection of the bright, personality-filled illustrations that Hello!Lucky is known for, and inside are lined pages with neon pink dotted lines. Love, love, love this notebook!

2 Sticker Sheets - Listed Value About $2.29 USD (£1.95)

I may be a notebook romantic, but I'm a total sticker junkie. I love 'em, need 'em, collect 'em, and dole 'em out very generously among those in the world who are good to me. And, a sticker I've given away has never NOT been met with enthusiasm because they are so innocently joy-bringing. I'm going to a bluegrass music festival this weekend, so these little anthropomorphic fruits are going to be exposed to some serious banjo rippin'. It's gonna be so good.

Set of 3 Patches - Listed Value About $10.52 USD (£8.95)

Patches! What a cute thing to include! I love all 3, but the lemon is my favorite. I think I'll put it in the corner of my mirror to admire every day until I can find the perfect thing to add it to. The heart and rollerskate, maybe I'll pop on my fanny pack. Lol, did I just admit to having a fanny pack? Yes, yes I did. These patches are so nice and flat, and while they seem to be iron-on, I'll probably reinforce them with a few stitches to play it safe.

Papergang May 2018 Birthday Card

Greeting Card - Retail Value About $3.23 USD (£2.75)

Cuuuute! This cat-filled, pun-topped birthday card is blank on the inside and comes with a brown paper envelope. I have a few family members with birthdays coming up, so this guy won't linger around my stationery stash for long before seeing some action. It looks from the Papergang website like subscribers will receive one of a few various Hello!Lucky collab cards, so you might not necessarily end up with this one, but whichever you receive is certain to be great.

Papergang May 2018 Calendar

Bonus: July Calendar Card - Estimated Value $1.35 (£1)

Finally, the riso printed calendar that's always included as a little bonus item in each Papergang box. So bright! So committed to good vibes! Can't go wrong.

Verdict: Ugh, I just love this month's Papergang offerings. They are so insanely filled with color and personality and put me in a very giddy place. I particularly love the patches—they're such a clever way to spread around Hello!Lucky's delightful designs, crossing outside the realm of stationery in a cute way. I received a fabric-covered notebook, 2 sticker sheets, 3 patches, a greeting card, and a bonus calendar, which added up to about $32.62 USD. That's a great value, considering the box itself is about $22 USD, including shipping costs!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but check this helpful ship date guide to see the order-by date to receive the next few months' boxes.

Coupon - Buy a 3-month subscription and save 50% off your first box, no code required, just link here! You can also get a free box with a 6-month subscription or 2 free boxes with a 12-month subscription!

Value Breakdown: This box cost me $14.81 + $6.92 shipping, which means that each of the 4 items in the box (counting the sticker sheets and patch set as one item each) has an average cost of $5.43.

🌳 a writer who loves to convey feeling

🌲 a mother who wants to have just as much fun as my kids do

🌳 an outdoors-lover who's achieved #1000hoursoutside with my family

🌲 a low-maintenance self-carer

🌳 a general hungry person with an unstoppable sweet tooth

You'll find me collecting stationery and squirreling away stickers, riding bikes and swimming with my family, creating outfits in colors and silhouettes that make me feel amazing, wearing big earrings, drinking beer and asking my husband to feed me harmonies to sing, taking my vitamins, living for dancing to live music, roping everyone into a craft, being human and vulnerable, and celebrating the phenomenon of being alive.

...and doing it all with energy, delight, and jokes along the way.

I was really disappointed as well. ANOTHER notebook?! This one will definitely be re-gifted to some second tier friend. And what am I going to do with these patches? Straight into the trash. I loved the birthday card though! I wish they would just include more cards when they seem to be struggling for new items to include. Patches? In a stationary box? Nah!

I was really disappointed this month. Motivational slogans are a huge turnoff to me, and that journal cover is boring. I thought the patches seemed very low quality, too.
