Nerdy Post Subscription Box “Fantasy” Review + Coupon – April 2018
Nerdy Post is a monthly celebration of your favorite fandoms from TV, movies, and books. Every month, you’ll get handcrafted items centered around a different monthly fandom.
Everything you get in Nerdy Post is handmade by Alexis, Nerdy Post‘s creator. Here’s what their site says:
“…we wanted to provide unique, high-quality designs that you wouldn’t find anywhere else. Hand lettering and illustrating these designs means that nothing is created using fonts or stock images from a computer. Designs are of course digitized in order to be printed on the products, but they will retain their hand-crafted quality.”
Alexis recently started offering a Nerdy Tees subscription, which features one graphic tee that fits the monthly theme, for $15.95 a month plus shipping. You can also get the t-shirt and the items in the usual Nerdy Post box in her Nerdy Combo subscription, which is $29.90 per month plus shipping. She also offers Nerdy Post Lite for $9.95 per month, which delivers 5-7 items each month, instead of the 8 that arrive in the classic Nerdy Post.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Nerdy Post “Fantasy” April 2018 Review
If you’re following along, I’m reviewing the standard Nerdy Post box, so we’ll see the items that are listed under Nerdy Post Lite AND Nerdy Post on the info card! This card is fantastic because it really lists out the source material for each item, so if it’s an unfamiliar fandom, you can see exactly where it came from, and fall in love with something new! The front of this is also a beautiful print Lord of the Rings-inspired illustration of Gandalf and Frodo in front of the Doors of Durin.
This month’s theme is fantasy, and I really like that the creator of this box wrote a little introduction on why the theme was chosen. Fantasy looks to be one near and dear to their heart, and I really liked that items and fandoms were purposely chosen because they’re ones that aren’t typically found, so I’m excited to see the items!
Double-Sided Bookmark #1
I love that this was printed with two different quotes from two different sources! The quote “Have Fun Storming the Castle,” is one of my favorites from The Princess Bride (apparently I was obsessed with that movie when I was a toddler), and I really like this quote from Patrick Rothfuss’s book “The Name of the Wind.” I actually get to attend a panel featuring Patrick Rothfuss in about week here at the SFWA conference in Pittsburgh – hopefully, I have a chance to get this signed by the author himself!
“Beautiful and Full of Monsters? All the Best Stories Are,” Art Print
This quote is from the Strange the Dreamer series by Laini Taylor, and the illustration is so, so beautiful. For some reason I’m really drawn to the moths in this; I love how detailed they are – they would make for beautiful tattoos!
“You Don’t Have to Like Reality, Only Be Strong Enough to Face It,” Sticker
I really like the writing on this one – this is from the Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks. I love the colors in this as well as the fact that it was cut out around the letters; it makes a pleasing shape on top of touting a quote I very much happen to agree with!
His Dark Materials Magnet
I like that this is a little bit stronger of a magnet; I like when magnets make a strong statement, but I also like when they’re strong enough to hold up my favorite takeout menus! Featuring Iorek and Lyra in this illustration, American readers know them as characters from The Golden Compass series, the name under which it was published here.
“When People Say Impossible They Usually Mean Improbable” Print
The writing style on this is so cool; I have a number of friends who are very into designing their own lettering and fonts, and I think they’d go bananas for this! This quote references the first book of the Shadow and Bone trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, and the colors of the print seem to be a reference to the book’s cover art!
Game of Thrones Lapel Pin
Pins are having a serious moment right now, and my only question is: “Can a pin be badass?” I think the answer is yes when that pin is in the shape of Jon Snow’s direwolf, Ghost. The details are spot-on, including his red eyes, and I really like the double-fasteners in the back to keep it secure.
Coloring Book Postcard
Each box comes with a postcard with an illustration you can color yourself before sending to a friend! I love this rendering of a stack of books; so many different colors can be used!
Double-Sided Bookmark #2
Featuring a phoenix and Harry Potter quote on one side, and Daenerys Targaryen illustration and quote on the reverse, the second, wider bookmark in this box makes a powerful statement no matter which way it’s facing.
The Verdict: I’ve always loved fantasy, and this month’s Nerdy Post box really pulled from some awesome source material! Even though it’s a lot of paper goods, I think they’ve done an awesome job in offering a wide variety of items, like the coloring postcard, several sizes of prints, and who knew bookmarks could be so varied in size? I also loved finding a magnet and pin. The mix of fandoms in this box was amazing; there was a lot of familiar things inside, but I was also able to add a few titles to my “want to read” list thanks to this box!
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Boxes ship out on the 15th of the month. However, if there are extra boxes available, they’re sometimes listed on the Nerdy Post site shop!
COUPON: Use code MSA10 to save 10% off your first box!
Value Breakdown: This box costs $19.95 after US shipping. The average cost of each of the 8 items in the box is $2.49.
