Meowbox May 2018 Review
Meowbox has a lot of exclusive toys that are usually pretty popular with my cats. From my perspective, it’s nice to see some things that don’t turn up in other cat subscription boxes:
The information card typically just gives a URL for finding out more information about the items in the box. The picture is adorable, as usual. This month had a food and cooking theme.
Loving Pets It’s Purely Natural Freeze Dried Chicken (0.6 oz) – Retail Value $4.50
So normally my cats don’t like freeze-dried meat, and they have had this very product before, but for some reason, this time, every cat who can eat chicken (that is, everyone except Mr. Kitty) ate at least one or two pieces of this. Even Monkey.
Whisker’s Whisk – Retail Value $4.99
This is a lightweight catnip plush with an organza-type fabric covering the whisk part. Since my cats are very interested in different textures, this was well-liked by several of them, though I am sure Angus will play with it the most.
Go Getti Spaghetti – Retail Value $8.99
This is an interesting variation on a dangler toy. There are a fork and a meatball bound together by a leather strand representing spaghetti. You can let your cat chase after and play with either end, and the two ends do have different textures and weights. Angus played with this the most, but I do think Sneaky was in a bad mood when I was taking pictures, as she is usually a fan of toys like this as well.
Oven Mitt Toy – Retail Value $4.99
This is another catnip plush. It is small and lightweight, which is key for my cats’ enjoyment. And it has two bits of cord at the wrist part that was also interesting to my crew.
Crochet Kitty Baguette – Retail Value $7
You’ll get a lot of Crochet Kitty toys in Meowbox, but they don’t tend to show up in any other cat subscription boxes (and I would know, as I think I review a good number of them), and they really are pretty cute. This is on the large side for a catnip plush but on the small side for a kicker toy and it has been moving around the bedroom so someone is loving it when I am asleep or at work or something. (This one is handmade rather than factory-produced, hence the slightly higher price.)
I don’t understand why, but Angus always wants to play with the dangler toys on the stairs. He liked the spaghetti part of this one.
He actually ate the treats this time, too.
And here he is, inspecting the whisk.
Madison is my second-most reliable treat-eater (after Sneaky).
I just liked how you can see his face and the whites of his eyes here.
Monkey almost never eats treats. I was so surprised here.
And here he is, back to his usual self.
I have to be careful or she’ll take a finger.
These toys aren’t actual food. Sneaky knows.
I woke Mr. Kitty up to take these pictures. Can you tell? (He is almost 14 and he is chronically ill and he spends most of the day sleeping.)
Verdict: I calculated a value of $30.47 for the May Meowbox. That is a fair amount over the cost of the subscription, which is pretty good for a cat subscription box. I like getting all the custom toys as they are all well-made and generally popular with my kitties (and my cats liked the treats, this time, as well).
