Karv April 2018 Review

Garlic & Herb Seasoning

Karv included a free tin of seasoning to try out with your meat dishes. This is a great freebie!

My box included a variety of information with tips on unboxing, meal prep, and recipe inspiration.

The included recipe book has some great ideas for meals you can make with the month's deliveries. The photography is also pretty great.

Beef Ribeye Steak

Serving Size: 10 oz.

Calories Per Serving: 120

I was really impressed with this ribeye. Grass fed, decent marbling and it cooked up super tender. I simply pan fried it in a cast iron skillet in butter and finished off with a simple chimichurri sauce. Deeeeelicious.

Beef Florentine Pinwheel

Serving Size: 8 oz.

Calories Per Serving: 450

I'm a big fan of Florentine and actually make it on my own a lot. It was nice to not have to put it together and could just throw it in the oven. The beef was tender and flavorful just as the other beef products had been in this box. The finished product didn't photograph so well, but it tasted great.

Beef Shaved Steak

Serving Size: 7 oz.

Calories Per Serving: 340

I didn't get a chance to cook this up, but if it’s anything close to the quality of the steak I’m in for real treat.

French B/I Pork Chop

Serving Size: 12 oz.

Calories Per Serving: 580

This French cut heritage pork chop was insane. That’s the only word I can think of to describe it. I’m not even exaggerating when I say this turned out to be one of the best pork chops I’ve ever eaten. I pan fried in olive oil with garlic and sundried tomatoes and finished off with fresh basil. This was a real treat to eat.

Whole Pork Tenderloins

Serving Size: 7 oz.

Calories Per Serving: 240

As with the shaved steak, I didn’t have a chance to cook this up, but if it’s anything like the chop..look out taste buds!

Ground Beef

Serving Size: 8 oz.

Calories Per Serving: 260

Just like the steak, this is grass fed ground beef. Very, very good. I cooked some meatballs with this pack of beef and it did not disappoint.

Chicken Thighs

Serving Size: 7 oz.

Calories Per Serving: 280

Two packs of boneless chicken thighs are included in this month’s box. I had a chance to cook these up and they were very, very tender. I’m a big fan of chicken thighs and I have to say these tasted magnificent just pan fried in olive oil with some of the included herb seasoning thrown on.

Chicken Cutlet

Serving Size: 6 oz.

Calories Per Serving: 170

Two packs of chicken cutlets were included in the box. I cooked these up the same as the thighs. They were still good, but naturally not as juicy as the thighs.

Chicken Breast

Serving Size: 6 oz.

Calories Per Serving: 170

This was an above average chicken breast. I ended up doing a Mediterranean-esque entree with it. Pan fried in olive oil and topped with olives and sundried tomatoes. I don’t usually cook a lot of chicken breasts because they tend to be dry and not as tender as thighs, but this was really good.

Verdict: I’m someone who cooks and eats a lot, and I can say that the meats in the Karv box were very, very good. The grass-fed beef was amazing. The pork chop was insane! Everything in this box that I sampled was of a very high quality and I felt that justifies the $99 a month price.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? No, you will get the May box.

Yum! I have the same question as another commenter — is it possible to opt out of a certain product (in my case, pork)?

I’m confused. They send you the meat and the recipes only? Do you always get the same amount of meat? Can you opt out of say chicken?

Hi Michelle,

Karv just launched their new build your own box feature. You now have the option to select specific exactly which meats/cuts you want AND how much you want of each.

Here’s a link to select your plan type: https://karvmeals.com/our-plans/

All of Karv’s recipes are available online. Lots of options for anything you choose: https://karvmeals.com/our-recipes/

Hi Michelle. The subscription is for meat and recipes only but you can also add oven ready entrees to your order if you’d like. You choose the amount of meat you want based on the number of people you think you need to feed. Here’s a link to the plans available: https://karvmeals.com/our-plans/ (it also lists how much meat you’d get each month). There will soon be an option that allows you to opt out of chicken – likely in the next month or so. I hope that helps!
