Bulu Box Weight Loss May 2018 Review
There are box variations, and sometimes rather heavy product promotion, so you may not always get the same box as someone else or be able to make the connection to weight loss for each product:
The information cards are now generic rather than describing your items.
There are usually coupons (which may or may not be for items in the box), product literature, advertisements for other subscriptions, etc. This month I received an information card for Snak and Prevagen.
Animal Snak in Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, 3.3 oz – Buy 12 Bars for $24.95
This is one big protein bar, it has 350 calories (about twice as many as Quest bars, for the sake of comparison). It is vegetarian but not vegan (contains milk ingredients). Also, you should probably stay away if you have allergies as this has dairy, soy, wheat, peanuts, and tree nuts, and is processed in a facility that handles about every major allergen. I don’t have allergies, though, so I split this with my husband. We agreed that it tastes good although it is not quite delicious enough to justify the extra calories. This is also kind of high in sugars, at 20 grams.
SOS Hydration Drink Mix in Coconut, 2 count – Buy 10 Sticks for $8.99
I feel as though I have seen this product before, although it might have been a different flavor. I definitely appreciate that this is low in calories (10 per serving), as that is not true for all hydration mixes. It is nice to have items like this on hand for activities like yard work on hot summer days, though I rarely feel dehydrated enough to justify replenishing my electrolytes, so I usually make do with samples. This one reminds me a little of coconut water, which is not my favorite beverage ever, but I am going to experiment with the second packet by mixing it in with something else, like iced herbal tea, and see if that improves things.
Prevagen Chewables, 2 count – Buy 30 Chewables for $59.95 (found on sale here for $41.95)
This is vegetarian but not vegan (has casein peptones, which are derived from dairy). This is supposed to enhance memory and brain function. I am not sure that I have seen an effect from taking the provided chewables, though at least I know they don’t cause any negative reactions, which I guess is something. I feel as though you’d need to try this for a few weeks to notice a change. The main ingredient is apoaequorin, a protein originally isolated from jellyfish but that is now manufactured using biotechnology methods (i.e., it’s expressed in microorganisms in a big culture vessel, then collected and purified). This protein is believed to have an effect on calcium regulation in the brain, although WebMD says there is insufficient evidence for its effectiveness.
Run Gum in Mint, 2 count – Buy 12, 2-piece Packs for $22.49
I can’t chew gum right now because I have Invisalign, but I have tried this product before. This is caffeinated gum that also has some B vitamins. I think it does kind of provide a pick-me-up, but it loses flavor and becomes rather bitter (I guess that is the caffeine) rather quickly, so it is not my favorite.
Smarty Pants Kids Complete, 2 packets of 2 gummies each – Buy a 30-Day Supply for $17.95 (found on sale here for $17.05)
Oh, the Smarty Pants are back. I have received these in SO MANY subscription boxes over the years. This one is not vegetarian, as it contains fish oil and gelatin. I also don’t have kids, so getting kids’ products isn’t a lot of use to me, but you will receive kids’ products from time to time in Bulu Box. I always just give these to my husband and he eats them but says they don’t make him want to switch to gummy vitamins.
Styr Labs Shyft Activity Tracker – Retail Value $29.95
This item was promised in every Bulu Box this month. Its value alone is several times greater than the cost of the box, regardless of what other samples you receive. As it happens, I am already committed to the Fitbit brand (since I get points from my health insurance company for using mine), but if you are balking at the price of Fitbit or one of the other better-known brands, this could be a good entry-level tracker for you. The user interface has a lot of similarities to the Fitbit interface, although please note you will have to use a smartphone (or possibly a tablet) to set this up, as it seems to only have an app and no web/computer option.
Verdict: The fitness tracker this month had a value of $29.95, which is around six times what I paid for the box (I have the $5 for life option). Even if you are paying full price at $10 per month, that is still three times the value of the box, and that is before even including the samples. More of the supplements than usual were vegetarian, which was also nice, from my perspective, and many of them were also new to me.
I’d strongly recommend using our MYSUB799 coupon code when you subscribe and choosing either the regular or the weight loss box, but not both since there is a lot of product repetition between the two. Please also note that instead of getting points you can redeem for merchandise if you review your samples, now you get sweepstakes entries, which isn’t as good of a deal (unless you are the winner…).
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, June would be your first shipment. Also, keep in mind that there are variations in the boxes, so your box might not be exactly like mine in any given month.
Coupon - Use our coupon code MYSUB799 to get your subscription at $7.99 per month, for the lifetime of the subscription!
Value Breakdown: This box has various prices depending on the promotion you used when you signed up. However, the fitness tracker has a retail value of $29.95 and that is considerably higher than any of the subscription prices I’ve seen. The rest of the samples are basically just bonuses.
