Baby Booth Box May 2018 Review

The theme for this month is Cirque du Baby. I thought this was perfect considering everyone I know is raving about a recent circus movie that I still haven’t seen (and probably won’t get to see until my little guy goes off to college!)

They also show a picture of the girl version which I think is so cute! Those shoes! That bow! The tutu!

Goody Doublewear 2 in 1 Ponytailer and Bracelet - Estimated Value $4.99 (These are pretty much sold out everywhere but this is what Target had it listed for originally!)

I love that they include a little something for mom- I’m pretty sure that makes any box better! These 2 in 1 ponytail bracelets are so practical and fun. I have a cuff bracelet that you wrap your ponytail around, but somehow it always seems to fall off, so these make total sense! They look really cute as bracelets, but it’s a little awkward in your hair, especially if your ponytail isn’t super thick since the metal piece is pretty wide. But overall, great concept, great mom gift!

Milestone Blanket - Listed Value $19.99

Everything centers around the milestone blanket that they will send you in your first box. It has numbers 1-12 and also the phrases weeks and months at the bottom so you could use it as soon as your baby is a week old. The blanket was nice, but it was a little thin. I threw it in the dryer with some wet towels I had just washed and it came out pretty much wrinkle free and ready to go.

Black Crib Shoes - Estimated Value $5 (I couldn’t find the exact shoes online and these had no brand listed so I estimated low for generic shoes like these).

So you’ll notice he isn’t wearing the shoes in the picture below, and that’s because they were WAY too big. They were a size 11 and they really looked like clown shoes so I opted to leave them off for the photos. The pants were also huge on him, a size L, but I tried to tuck them under him as much as I could (this boy is a squirmer!).

When you sign up they ask you for your child’s birthdate so you would think they would send you an appropriate size, but maybe they do a one size fits all type deal and just size up to ensure a fit for all babies? But babies can vary greatly in size so I could definitely see this being a potential issue with this box! While it wasn’t great for the photo shoot, I don’t mind the larger sizes since I can possibly use them in the future.

Baby Boy Smash Cake Outfit - Retail Value $12.95

Well I was just hoping to get some estimated prices, but I came across what looks like the exact outfit we received - bloomers, bow tie, and suspenders - on Amazon listed as a 1st birthday outfit. That explains the sizes!

The suspenders and bow tie were both adjustable so that’s another item we can reuse when he’s a bit bigger. We do have a wedding coming up in November - he could be the most stylish baby there with those shoes, bow tie and suspenders! (Don’t worry- I’ve decided the red pants have 4th of July written all over them!)

Ellie the Plush Elephant Mini Flopsie by Aurora

Ellie the Plush Elephant Mini Flopsie by Aurora - Retail Value $4.99

Elephants are my favorite so I may be a bit biased, but this was such a cute little stuffed animal to receive and ties in well with the theme. Another item we can keep and get use out of. He is very soft and just the right size to be a great travel buddy.

Raffles Tickets and Beach Ball

The last items that really hit the circus theme home were these tickets and this mini beach ball. So cute and fitting and my 2 and 3-year-old have already taken over the ball. I’m not even assigning them a value since I couldn’t find the exact ones online and I’m sure the value is under a $1!

Putting everything together was really easy and I liked that they gave a suggested setup on the card they included. I think I would suggest getting a larger blanket for underneath specifically for these shoots though. There isn’t much extra space around the outside of the blanket meaning not all of the props fit that well which is why you can see a bit of the blanket in this shot. But that also could be user error - I probably could have arranged it a little better, but I’m not a professional by any means!

I liked that some of the props were strictly for decoration. It added a little bit of flair to the shoot. Plus these are actually pretty nice and I think I can find a way to reuse them (circus themed birthday party? Why not!).

First I set everything up and then I got baby dressed and just laid him down and snapped a few pictures! Quick and painless! It really only took me a half hour probably? I love that they included a little red plastic ring to mark the month - perfect for the circus, although I really can’t believe my little guy is already 1 month!

For anyone who is in the same camp as my husband and rolls their eyes at this form of baby torture, I promise baby was well fed beforehand and he was in this outfit for a total of 5 minutes before being swaddled up and snuggled! Plus look how cute he is in his giant yellow bow tie?!?

Verdict: I was pleasantly surprised by Baby Booth Box. I am not a mom who gets nice pictures done regularly and I rarely do posed photos, but this is my third baby and I know how fast it goes. I thought it was fun to do something different to capture these fleeting moments. I thought the theme was really cute and that they did a great job including props that weren’t too wild, but also highlighted the theme. I definitely never would have thought of this on my own and I think there was a lot of creativity in the items chosen.

As for value, I estimate about $25 worth of value which doesn’t take into account the decorations or the milestone blanket (I didn’t include this because it only comes in your first box), so I tend to think $40/month is a bit much. Although, since a lot of the items can be reused, that helps me feel a little better about the value. I know professional photography can be expensive, but I’m also not sure how many parents actually do monthly photos of their kids. What do you think of the value? Is this something you would purchase?

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Look at his looooooooong legs! What a doll.

It’s so weird that they didn’t send the appropriate sizes. It’s a cute idea but that alone makes it a fail to me.

Haha I know! They are so long! 🙂

And definitely strange on the sizes, but hoping maybe it’s just a first box fluke! We’ll see!
