Astral Box April 2018 Review
Welcome to this month's Astral Box! I'll start by echoing what I wrote last month as I explored my first-ever Astral Box: from the moment this box arrived, it felt very special and high-quality. The thoughtful design of the packaging and carefully wrapped contents commanded a somewhat reverent approach to exploring this box, I felt. This month, the inside of my box was sprinkled with rose petals. So pretty! It also included this inspirational card. On the back is a packing list with info about each included product. Note that its values are listed in New Zealand dollars (NZD).
Dream Journal – Listed Value $17.59 USD ($25 NZD)
If any of you have been following along on my reviews, you may know that I'm a sucker for a good notebook. The problem is, I have a hard time writing in them and ruining their perfection! This one is covered with midnight blue fabric and engraved with silver text on the front. I love the idea of having blank pages inside a dream journal—it encourages drawings!
Rose Quartz Gua Sha - Listed Value $19.71 USD ($28 NZD)
This is a beautiful, petal-shaped piece of rose quartz. I thought maybe it was cut into an interesting shape just for kicks, but turns out it's intended to be used for gua sha. From Wikipedia:
Gua Sha is a traditional Chinese medical treatment in which the skin is scraped to produce light petechiae. Practitioners believe that gua sha releases unhealthy bodily matter from blood stasis within sored, tired, stiff or injured muscle areas to stimulate new oxygenated blood flow to the areas, thus promotes metabolic cell repair, regeneration, healing and recovery.
I don't think I'll be giving this practice a try without the proper training, but it's cool to know I have this tool as an option should I decide to delve in. In the meantime, I'll just appreciate its beauty and representation of self-love!
Astral Facial Elixir, 50ml — Retail Value $33.08 USD ($47 NZD)
I never thought of myself as having much of a "beauty" routine. A typical morning for me was brushing my teeth, washing my face, slathering on some lightweight lotion, and on some days, adding a little concealer, light eyeshadow, and mascara into the mix. It wasn't until recently, when I received a face serum in a subscription box, that I learned the wonders of high-quality hydrating face products. I started by exploring gentle gels to hydrate under my eyes, but this is the first oil I've ever tried. I was a bit worried because my skin has a fair amount of natural oils and it's starting to become humid where I live. But, seriously, I love this stuff! I feel so cared for when I apply it in the morning. I typically smooth it under my eyes, spreading it a bit onto my forehead and the sides of my nose, avoiding my hairline, cheeks, and chin (the places where I break out the most easily). The scent is beautiful and the absorbent oils are very hydrating. Highly recommend!
Palo Santo — Retail Value $4.93 USD ($7.00 NZD)
I always keep some Palo Santo in my incense box and am always glad to have my supply renewed! I adore the earthy scent and even just love the ritual of lighting it and spreading it through the room. These particular sticks were sustainably sourced from naturally fallen trees in Ecuador!
Lava Stone Necklace — Listed Value $15.48 USD ($22 NZD)
I find this necklace to be so beautiful! Its glimmering gold cable chain makes way for a small, but impactful rock as its feature. Though lava stones, of course, aren't considered precious by any means, there's a real power to them, isn't there? Just knowing what lava is capable of, and imagining its fire-spitting beauty makes this necklace seem special to me. It's also a diffuser so you can drip a few drops of essential oil onto the stone and it'll release the scent throughout the day. Love!

Affirmation Set — Listed Value $4.22 USD ($6 NZD)
These little cards are loaded up with positive affirmations and I'm here for it! They're a bit hard to read in the images, and honestly, they're just as hard to read in person. But perhaps the idea of the low-contrast design was to capture your full focus! There are 8 cards included (not all are shown in the pictures) and they're a fun mix of simple, straightforward affirmations 'n' a few with a little spunk.
Verdict: This is my second-month receiving Astral Box and I am just as impressed this time around as I was last month! My favorite product in this box is the facial elixir, but the lava stone and affirmation set are close seconds. This box feels very well-rounded and well-thought-out to me, which makes it worth every penny in my book. Based on a combination of retail values and listed values, the items in this box add up to about $95 USD, which is within the $72-110 USD value that was promised by Astral Box.
