Gaia Collective MoonBox "Blue Moon" Review April 2018

moonbox april 2018 info card

moonbox april 2018 info card flipside

As I mentioned above, MoonBox skipped a few months in order to refresh and rejuvenate the subscription. Here's a card reintroducing the box and the best ways to use it. The main difference is that the boxes are timed to arrive by the 1st of each month, rather than alongside each moon. But they'll give you all the supplies you need to prep for the upcoming events in the month so that you can celebrate accordingly!

moonbox april 2018 empower card

Here's what the new and improved info cards look like. The dates of the lunar phases are on the front, and on the back, there's guidance on how to lead with "empower" as your intention for the month. Down at the bottom, they list the crystals that you received and their significance.

Moon Deck by @themoon_journal - Retail Value $17.44

This deck of 10 cards is a means to connect with the lunar cycle and understand how best to react to its phases. I like the pen illustrations and the smooth texture of each sturdy card. I do wish that there was more instruction on how best to use the cards day to day (just lay them out? draw them at random?) for card deck newbies like me!

dropper

glowing pigments

Thistle Sun Drops Highlighter, 0.5 fl. oz. - Retail Value $15.00

This vegan, gluten-free, small-batch highlighter has a loose consistency and a beautiful, slightly golden glow to it. A little seems to go a long way, too! Just make sure you shake it well so the settled ingredients stir back in. The info card suggests using this to awaken some of that powerful, confident, warrior energy.

Kaliks Collective Cleanse - Renew Facial Cleanser, 2 fl. oz. - Retail Value $28.00

I love the packaging of this mask/scrub/cleanser! The glass bottle and color-dappled label are gorgeous. Inside the bottle, there's a fine, tan-colored powder ready to be mixed in with water (or yogurt and honey, if you want to make a mask). There are lava clay and oat powder in the mix, as well as a bunch of other natural ingredients to nourish and clean skin. I love the gentle exfoliation of the cleansing paste method!

Palo Santo Soap, 100 g - Retail Value $4.49

This bar of amber-colored soap smells so nice! I like the smell of palo santo, which is what gives this soap its woody aroma. A shower with this soap is a peaceful, yet invigorating way to start the day, or end an evening at a sweaty yoga class.

Cosmic Collage Moon Calendar

I'm guessing that this is the product that the MoonBox intro card described! It's a colorful woven sheet that's just smaller than a standard pillow sham and printed with a galaxy pattern and the phases of the moon in April. I might need to do a little research on how best to use this mat, but I love it as an alternative to a typical calendar! I might match the cards in the moon deck up with the phases to understand where the mind should be during each phase.

Fractalista Designs Selenite Stone - Retail Value $15.00

This 2" long stone is so nice to hold in the palm of my hand. The top side has an etching of the lunar cycle and the back is smooth. The selenite is positively luminous, even sitting in the dim light of my living room. The info card says it's cleansing and helpful for anxiety or stress, so I may keep this near me as we get through the last leg of Mercury retrograde!!!

crystals in drawstring bag

Now let's check out what other crystals I got!

clear crystal point

Quartz Point

According to the info card, this 2" stone is meant to help with intention setting. The white color reminds me of the selenite stone—crisp, clear, and pure—and the pointed shape feels particularly magical.

chunky gray crystal

Pyrite Cluster

This 1" big L-shaped cluster of pyrite is meant to help inspire abundance, according to the card. I love the sparkling crystals peeking out from the coarse areas. It has the same twinge of gold as the Sun Drops highlighter!

round smooth orange crystal

Goldstone

This 0.75" stone is amaaaaazing. It looks like someone cut the top off of a high-end copper lipstick—it's endlessly shimmery and has a gorgeous orange tone. The card says it's meant to inspire transformation and alchemy. I feel like I could lose time just rolling it around in my fingers, watching the sun light up new pockets of glitter!

The Verdict: I like the idea of including a mat and a deck, which I know can be tools for different rituals, but as a beginner with these sorts of things, I definitely need a bit more guidance. The info card says the Gaia Collective website will soon be the place for that additional info, so I'm staying tuned! I really enjoyed this month's options, though the new box seems to not have the essential oil and tea blends that I'm used to. But in their stead, I got so many other cool products! The mix of beauty and self-care items and lunar goodies was fun. I appreciated the non-toxic nature of the beauty items, too!

Value Breakdown: The box itself cost me $31.50 after shipping. Some items in the box weren't able to be found online (either because they were exclusives or didn't come with a brand/sourcing info), but the total cost of what I could find was $79.93. Counting the crystals as one item, the average price I paid for the 7 items in the box is $4.50.

As a long time subscriber of this box, I’m a bit torn by the changes. I love, love, love the mat and deck, but I agree on the needing more guidance part. I also love that it comes at the first of the month. I often seemed to just miss the full moon with my goodies. I don’t really like the beauty items. I buy other boxes for those, this box is supposed to focus on my inner beauty. I miss the essential oils and teas, as well. Not sure if I’m going to keep this one or not. 🤷‍♀️

I wanted to note that the cards and beauty items are not a part of the mini box, as you stated you liked the cards. I order the mini box + the workbook (that kind of brings the guidance in, as well, especially if your are newer to moon magic). My first new box also contained a piece of gemstone jewelry, but I was told I would have to pay separately for that from now on. If you can live without the cards and maybe try the workbook add-on (I believe it’s 8 dollars), you may be really happy with the box still. Many blessings.

If you get the mini box, that’s where the oil & tea is now! You also still receive the 3 small crystals and the tapestry.
Hope that helps!

Oh, also, my highlighter smelled like peanut butter and didn’t work well. I’ll try shaking it better, maybe that will help. What did yours smell like?
