Lip Monthly March 2018 Review

Each month, Lip Monthly sends their lip products in a little makeup bag. This month’s bag is made of a brown satin fabric with white and orange flower designs. There is a little card with the month and the saying for the month.

Sorme Smearproof Lip Liner in Pure Rose 22

Sorme Smearproof Lip Liner in Pure Rose 22 - Retail Value $9.59

I really like this lip pencil. It works well as a liner to prevent feathering or to fill in lips on its own. The soft pencil applies an opaque matte layer of pigment without feeling heavy or waxy.

It really is long lasting and smearproof too.

Ecolips Ecotints in Sugar Plum

Ecolips Ecotints in Sugar Plum - Retail Value $4.49

I like the idea of including a lip care product in the midst of all of the lip color products, but this one just didn’t do anything for me. The ingredients are natural and healthy but the shimmery wine color seems to bunch up on the chapped areas of my lips causing patchiness.

Hikari Lipstick in Crush

Hikari Lipstick in Crush - Retail Value $13

This shade is described as a “deep, vivid pink” but to me, it’s bright fuschia. It applies smoothly with a thin, balmy texture. I’m impressed that it lasts for a couple of hours and stays comfortable. The packaging is a problem though. The actual lipstick detached from the base on the first swipe and the tube tends to lose its outer bottom shell instead of the top when I pull to open it.

Be A Bombshell Eyeshadow in Superstition - Retail Value $7

The website listing makes this look peachy-pink when, in reality, it is more of a mauve/purple color. It’s pretty and blends surprisingly well with other shadows without a lot of fallout. It’s nice to have a matte, deep purple color in my collection and I think this will work beautifully in the fall.

Here are all of the swatches next to each other. From top to bottom: Sorme lip liner, Ecolips lip balm, Hikari lipstick, and Be A Bombshell eyeshadow.

Verdict: This wasn’t my best month of Lip Monthly. It has a retail value of $34.08 which is lower than normal for the $12.95 subscription. I really liked the lip liner and will find use for the eyeshadow, but the lip balm didn’t impress me and the lipstick’s packaging makes it too messy to use. The selection also seemed a little random and not particularly suited for spring.

I joined lip monthly with a 1 year subscription last October. Only twice have I had tracking info. Other than one month bags are always weeks late. The posted products on their FB or IG accounts are not always what you get. I contacted their customer service regarding not getting the advertised monthly products and they told me they ran out. My substitutions are cheap drug store items. One month I got a chapstick product. I did not sign up for chapstick! Several products are smaller/mini sizes not “all full size” as they advertise. Monthly you are able to “customize” one or two selections however the colour choices I make rarely make it into my bag. I will not be renewing. I suggest anyone looking at this subscription research reviews before doing so.

I love the products thsy swnd. But the customer service is sooooo sketchy Im canceling. They charged me and then said I wouldnt get a bag till the next month. I got the three months package and it was supposed yo include a free bag but they tried to charge me for the “free” bag. One of the months they sent me the bag in the next month. And the bags NEVER come in time. The customer service is super nasty and rude….
They deffinatly try to scam and over charge you….. to bad because I love the products they send.

I recently cancelled because I keep getting nude colors and less than “Deluxe” samples. I haven’t had a problem with customer service (Carmen is the best), they always get back to me. Like Chandra’s comment above, the value of the bags are less and less each month. You can buy the City Colors Be Matte lipstick on Amazon for 6 for $6.00, and it tastes like wax – I don’t expect that in my bag and I got it twice in consecutive months.

I signed up for the April bag. My FIRST bag . I was told it would ship between April 10th and 15th. Until Now, I have not received an email that my order has shipped. Customer service is ignoring my emails. What a great way to impress a new customer

I had the same issue I subscribed for 3 months never once recieved a email or tracking info. I recieved the first too, I’m waiting on my third month still. I reached out to lip monthly numerous times on different platforms. They finally got back to me saying they have to get a new website due to issues. I don’t know why they would let that go on for months.

The colors seem to only suite lighter skin tones. There’s no skin tone option when making your profile so if you have a darker complexion, odds are that 1 out of 4 of the lipsticks you receive will be somewhat decent. Also they decided to give me 3 lipsticks and an eyeliner one month which was not what I paid for.

I cancelled this subscription after eight months, which is quite from time to be paying the monthly fee. I found that none of the lipsticks never worked for me. I even received on that was like a “dead flesh’ shade.

What killed it was the customer service response. There was non and even through IG, they kept on saying that someone would get back to me.

I do hope things improve for this service, because I would love to receive lipsticks every month.

Last month I finished a tube of that exact EcoLips lip balm I got in a box (I was thinking it was from Vegan Cuts, but after reading FabSB’s comment, it could have been from Lip Monthly). I liked the color payoff, but I agree that it was too draggy to apply, and it didn’t feel moisturizing at all. To prevent it from looking patchy I actually had to apply a moisturizing lip balm before the EcoLips lip balm. haha. I just stuck around with it because it provided a really nice subtle color to the lips, and I could apply it easily at my desk at work without having to use a mirror.

This might be the only box I have seen where it is more expensive to sub for a year then it is to sub monthly.
Less than a dollar…but still.

I did want to say that fuschia lipstick was matte I believe as it appears in the swatch — I don’t see that mentioned anywhere – that was what made it interesting and sem-modern, albeit not for me.

Are they still giving a choice to pre-select some colors? I wish it were to eliminate glosses..
I really liked this sub so that was great but it happened just before I unsubbed b/c I was on lippie overload after subbing to this and boxy and ipsy for years! I want to resub but not if half the bag is repeats from 2 yrs ago, and still beating us over the head with Be a Bombshell and Hikari , meh…

I’m curious if this is what everyone got, because I haven’t been subbed in over a year and I got the EcoLips twice and that Fuschia lipstick (didn’t have issues with the packaging, but I used it like twice – it looks great on you, not so much on someone with my yellowy teeth and pasty complexion !)

I received 2 different items and a different shade of EcoLips (Rose Gold). I got the EcoLips balm, Sorme lip pencil (same shade), a City Color lipstick (color Cammi worth <$6), and a Makeup Revue highlighting loose pigment (color Champagne Dreams worth $11.99). Bag value was only $29.97 for mine.
