Box of Happies April 2018 Review

If you like jewelry that’s generally delicate and handmade items from Etsy and similar artisans, Box of Happies delivers those things every month. The items are also usually packaged nicely for gifting if something isn’t to your taste:

Box of Happies April 2018 Booklet

You’ll usually get a little card with basic information about the items as well as a Box of Happies business card. (I think the business card design has recently changed.)

Box of Happies April 2018 Necklace 1 Box of Happies April 2018 Necklace 2

Box of Happies Necklace – Listed Value $15

This is nice and simple, just a resin pendant on a silver-tone chain. This is actually a really long chain; I’ve made it appear shorter here so I could actually get it on my necklace form. This would work layered with other pieces or could go on its own with a casual outfit if you want to keep it simple.

Box of Happies April 2018 Bracelet 1 Box of Happies April 2018 Bracelet 2

Box of Happies Bracelet – Listed Value $10

This is a little different from the usual jewelry offerings and now I want to try to make something like this, myself. This has some seed beads and is adjustable to fit quite a wide range of wrist sizes (mine are 5.25” in circumference and I am wearing it on the tightest setting in the picture).

Box of Happies April 2018 Cupcake

Box of Happies Cupcake Toppers – Listed Value $4.99

I rarely make cupcakes, but I might have to make an exception because these are adorable. Perhaps I could find a way to use them in another craft project.

Box of Happies April 2018 Magnet

Studio 26 Rustic Magnet – Retail Value $6

There are lots of available designs on the Studio 26 Design Co. site (click the link in the product name to see them; please be aware that some of the sayings are NSFW). This one seems appropriate for this particular subscription box. It’s hard to include home décor items in a box like this but it is fun to see what they come up with. If you are looking for kitchen-themed gifts with a rustic look, check out Studio 26’s other offerings. The magnets here seem pretty strong; this is on my refrigerator now.

Box of Happies April 2018 Bookmarks

The Felt Bunny Bookmark Trio – Retail Value $4.50

These are suggested for journaling, planners, Bibles, etc. I don’t actually use any of those things, but I am reading a massive hardcover book right now and the dust jacket keeps slipping out from between the pages and I am losing my place, so these have already come in handy there.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $40.49 for the April 2018 Box of Happies. That’s a fair amount above the month-to-month cost for the box. (Please note that almost every Etsy shop and/or independent maker charges shipping, too, so you are getting to sample items from a few Etsy makers without that separate shipping fee.) The jewelry was nice and casual this month and has given me some ideas to try in my own jewelry-making, and I’m happy to have discovered some independent craftspeople, as well. And if something is not to your taste, it is pretty easy to give most of these items as gifts (they are often already packaged for gift-giving).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you subscribe today? No, your first box would be May's. Sometimes past boxes or past box items go on sale in their shop, though.

I just noticed they have $15 grab bags too. Has anyone bought those before?

I did once and it wasn’t for me. I received a few dollar store type items. I felt like a waste but I don’t know if they are always like that.

I wasn’t thrilled with the two I purchased last year (bought at same time). After unsuccessfully listing most of it for swap, the bulk of the items ended up in my yard sale. I definitely got a dollar store vibe from mine too.
