Birchbox Sample Box March 2018 Review

Each box comes with a card describing that month’s theme, with the flip side detailing the items included and some tips on how to use them.

Rituals Foaming Shower Gel in Happy Buddha, 1.6 fl oz

Rituals Foaming Shower Gel in Happy Buddha, 1.6 fl oz – Estimated Value $3.58 (buy a full-size bottle for $15)

I really enjoyed using this foaming shower gel! The lather was great and the fragrance is light and refreshing (Happy Buddha is the scent of Sweet Orange and Cedar). My skin felt clean without feeling stripped. This was nice!

OUAI Leave-In Conditioner, 8.4 fl oz

OUAI Leave-In Conditioner, 8.4 fl oz – Estimated Value $4.65 (Buy a full-size bottle for $26)

I never go without a leave-in conditioner! This one from OUAI smells incredible: Italian lemon, amber, blackberry, and violet. It also worked well to not only detangle my hair but also to boost shine and hydration, plus it also works as a heat protectant. That means I only need one product! Love.

Winky Lux Glazed Lips Donut Lip Gloss in Coffee Glaze, .05 fl oz

Winky Lux Glazed Lips Donut Lip Gloss in Coffee Glaze, .05 fl oz – Estimated Value $10.71 (buy a full-size tube for $15)

This gloss is okay. It’s not sticky, which is nice, but the slight frosty-glaze finish isn’t my fave. This is a really subtle gloss, though, so it works well on its own or as a top coat to add some shimmer to another lip look.

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye, .1 fl oz

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye, .1 fl oz – Estimated Value $7.40 (buy a full-size tube for $37)

Kiehls is a brand I like in general, so I was happy to see this in my box. If you’ve read enough of my reviews you’d know I adore a good eye cream. I never skip using an eye cream, and this one is great! The formula is thick and creamy but absorbs well and it just feels so hydrating and refreshing on my skin.

Love of Color Liquid Shimmer Shadow in Stardust, .03 fl oz

Love of Color Liquid Shimmer Shadow in Stardust, .03 fl oz (Full size!) – Retail Value $10

Liquid eyeshadows are my new favorite thing, especially as we go into Spring and Summer when I tend to get more simple with my makeup routine. FYI, this brand, Love of Color is made by Birchbox as their house brand. I’m a fan of this liquid shadow – the formula has a lot of pigment and shimmer and I found that it blended out easily, too. Plus, it’s full size, and worth the cost of the box by itself!

Here are swatches of the eyeshadow (top) and lip gloss (bottom).

Here I am wearing the liquid shadow (I also applied some color into my crease and outer corner). I liked the level of shimmer and the light neutral shade is exactly what I tend to reach for day to day.

Verdict: I really liked everything in this box! I’m not a huge fan of the lip gloss but I know I’ll use everything else. It’s always a good feeling to discover new products you love.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, as of today your first box will be the April box. (Tip: Check the image on the sign-up page. The box design pictured is the first month you’ll receive.) You can’t pick the curated box as your first box, but you’ll be able to pick it every month moving forward.

I truly believe ipsy is a better deal on most months.

I just tried to sub thinking it ships to Canada (I could swear I saw a review listing Canada, Spain France and UK as destinations they ship to) only to get disappointed… In the billing info only US, Guam, PR and Mariana Islands. Is this a recent change? To add to the confusion they don’t have a Shipping section on the site or in their FAQ to verify. Bummer.

How is the amount in the kiehl’s tube? Enough to use more than once?

Luna gave a thorough answer, but I wanted to say I agree with her – it’s a good size for an eye cream sample! I’ll definitely get at least a couple of weeks out of it, probably more.

Luna

It can definitely be used more than once, as it’s 20% the size of the full-sized version. 🙂 I’ve used a few samples of that eye cream in that exact same tube, and since it’s supposed to only be used at night, I easily got ~3 weeks use out of it. Of course the sample’s duration depends on how much eye cream is used for each application too.

My boxes have been sooo crappy lately… I changed my profile a few weeks ago so I’m really hoping that’s helps plus the reviews. For April I chose the Oribe mouse (never tried it and love the brand) My March box was HORRIBLE and after seeing all the samples offered for the month I was even more disappointed that my box wasn’t more mixed

*** Smashbox Insta Matte (I usually wear matte anyway, so kind useless for me)
***Nanette Lenore Perfum (I don’t mind a perfum sample once or twice a year but not EVERY MONTH)
*** Oribe Straight Away (Sample choice and AMAZING stuff… used this before)
***ModelCo Creme Lipstick (clearly put I’m not into lip products)
***Glamglow supercleanse (i love this facewash!) a few more items like this woulda been great!!
I feel like every other box was better than mine… if April doesn’t bring it I’m OUT…. right now all I’m looking forward to is the mousse lol and my add ons! 2 candles and the Pink Clay sheet mask …I’m reallly hoping that my April box will be improved!! I really love this March box that you reviewed too, if it’s anything like that I’d be good lol

I had such a hard time getting the leave in conditioner to actually spray. Sometimes it would and sometimes it would come out in clumps.
