Surprise Pawty is a monthly subscription box for dogs. Choose a box for tiny (<10 pounds), small (10-30 pounds), medium (30-50 pounds), or large (50+ pounds) dogs. My dog Nyx is an 87-pound Rottweiler and this is a review of the “large” dog box.

Surprise Pawty March 2018 Review

Surprise Pawty really makes an effort to generate a box your dog can enjoy, so mine might have fewer and/or different treats than some others, due to Nyx’s dietary issues. Let’s see what came this month:

There was an information card detailing some of the items in the box – this month didn’t have a particular theme that I could see.

Earth Rated Dog Waste Bags (1 roll)

Earth Rated Dog Waste Bags (1 roll) – Estimated Value $0.87 (buy 8 rolls for $6.99)

Nyx is on a massive amount of fiber for her IBD so let’s just say we have a lot of use for these and leave it at that. And every roll of dog waste bags I get in a dog subscription box is a roll I don’t have to purchase separately.

Hueter Toledo Soft Flex Air Ball

Hueter Toledo Soft Flex Air Ball – Retail Value $9.08

The ball end of this is too big for Nyx to fit in her mouth, but she liked the texture of the other end pretty well. She did damage it fairly quickly (this is a softer material, not hard rubber) but she had fun doing it.

Pet House Car Freshener in Lavender Green Tea

Pet House Car Freshener in Lavender Green Tea – Retail Value $2.99

We have to give Nyx a bath every two weeks (she needs to use a medicated shampoo). It is too cold to do it in our driveway so we go in my car to a Petco with self-wash facilities. Anyway, my car smells seriously like dog and this is a welcome item that I am already using.

Scout and Zoe’s Banana Carrot Dog Treats (6 oz)

Scout and Zoe’s Banana Carrot Dog Treats (6 oz) – Estimated Value $14

Scout and Zoe’s does have e-commerce, but most of their biscuit-style treats are not listed there. (Wholesale suppliers exist but of course I can’t get that pricing without a wholesale account.) So, I’m estimating the value for this item based on other Scout and Zoe’s vegetarian treats. These are grain-free and free of animal proteins, which means Nyx can have them!

Petlou 8” “Bite Me” Plush Dog

Petlou 8” “Bite Me” Plush Dog – Retail Value $11.58

Nyx is very destructive but she does love plush toys. She makes it her mission to find the weak point and exploit it. She played with this for awhile without managing to damage it, so she’ll get to play with it again!

Geometric Bandana

Geometric Bandana – Listed Value $14

All right, so this picture looks darker than the rest because this was wrapped in tissue and hiding at the bottom of the box and I had to take it under totally different lighting conditions because I didn’t even find it until several days later! (That’s also why you don’t see Nyx in it, below.) Moral of the story – go through ALL the packing material in a subscription box. This style of scarf is honestly a bit easier to tie than squares of fabric and the print looks very nice against her black fur.

Nyx enjoyed playing with this plush toy. It’s still intact, too!

And she gets SO EXCITED for treats she can actually have.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $52.52 for this month’s Surprise Pawty. That is comfortably above the month-to-month cost of the box plus shipping and is right in line with the last time I reviewed this box. I thought they did a good job of choosing a variety of item types (so even if one doesn’t work for you, the rest still could). Nyx liked the toys and she could actually eat the treats, so that was great, too!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! Order by 3/21 to get the March box! After the 21st, you can email Surprise Pawty to see if this box is still available.

These items look nice, but I wouldn’t pay more than $20 for this box.
