SnackNation March 2018 Review

Loacker Hazlenut Gardena Wafers, 1.34 oz. – Buy a box of 25 for $22.99

These tasted like CAKE! I swear! I was expecting a classically crunchy wafer, but the cream filling nestled between each angelic layer gave it a soft, smooth bite. I was truly amazed. There's a perfect balance of hazelnut to chocolate flavor goin' on, making the overall experience A+++++.

Boom Chicka Pop Sea Salt Popcorn, 0.6 oz. – Buy a 4.8 oz. bag for $4.49

Another home run. This tasted like movie theater popcorn somehow? Despite having no butter in its ultra-clean list of ingredients. Its flavor POPS and it has a perfect amount of salt with no greasy residue to be found. I also fell in love with this company's message and packaging! It's a feel-good snack all around.

Ready Nutrition Clean Chocolate Brownie Snack Bar, 1.25 oz. – Buy a 12-pack for $15.48

The look of this bar immediately intrigued me, because it was reminiscent of the Cocoa Krispies cereal bars I used to love as a kid! The chocolate brownie flavor, however, tasted a little too artificial for my liking. It has a nice chewy bite, but I could really taste the fake protein taste that's found in so many sports bars. Alas. Not for me.

Sunrich Snacks Honey Roasted Sunflower Kernels, 1 oz. – Buy a 1-pound bag for $3.99

The honey glaze on these sunflower seeds ROCK. I normally prefer my nuts and seeds au naturel, but this had just a hint of sweetness, which I loved! You can feel the crisp, light glaze on every seed, and I shoveled these in my mouth by the handful. They would go so great with yogurt or granola!

Nothing But the Fruit Raspberry Chia Real Fruit Bites, 0.9 oz. – Retail Value $1.09

This scrappy little package was tough to get open, I tell ya! The chia gummy bites themselves were well worth the struggle, though. Oh my gosh. This was one of the most authentic raspberry flavors I've ever tasted! Artificial raspberry flavors always turn me off, but HOOBOY did these nail it. They have refreshing sweetness and a nice firm texture—chewy and so fun to eat!

That’s It Apple + Cinnamon Bar, 1.2 oz. – Buy a box of 12 for $18.99

I'm not sure what kinda wizardry allowed two ingredients—apple and cinnamon—to combine into bar form, but I was deeply amazed. This tastes like a crisp fall afternoon, no joke. Pumpkin-picking and bonfire vibes included!

It has SUCH a cozy cinnamon flavor that's often not found in snacks due to perpetually added (and added) sugar. Mixed in with the pure taste of apples, this bar really stole my autumn-obsessed heart.

Door County Jalapeno Kettle Chips, 1.75 oz. – Retail Value $1.49

If you've come within a mile of my previous snack box reviews, you know I will always get down with kettle chipsThere is no greater salty snack. I will not argue about this. While plain and simple, OG salted kettle chips will always have my heart, these are the best-flavored kettle chips I've ever had. Hands down.

They taste like they could be served at a restaurant alongside the most perfectly greasy diner sandwich you can imagine. Except they're healthy! The amount of seasoning on each chip is JUST RIGHT, with enough kick to leave a tingle on your tongue. I loved that jalapeno flavor didn't automatically mean cheesy jalapeno flavor—it was such a good move to have the spice be the star of the show! MAGNIFICENT.

Enstrom Almond Toffee Milk Chocolate Bars, 1.5 oz. – Buy a case of 24 for $42.96

I received a mini sampler of this toffee bar in a previous snack box! As I said there, I'm not a huge toffee-lover, and I'm not entirely sure why it keeps popping up in health-conscious snack boxes, but I know hardcore fans will love this 2-piece treat.

It has a classic, warm caramel flavor, and a great crunch thanks to well-placed almonds in the center!

Raspberry Just Fruit Bar by Zego, 1 oz. – Retail Value $1.39

This bar didn't do it for me. It was too sickeningly sweet, and the "Just Fruit" label felt misleading—the back of the bar says its ingredients are "apples, apple concentrate, and raspberry concentrate." So when you get down to it, this bar isn't made of much fruit at all. It's very sticky, very sugary, and surprisingly tastes mainly like cranberries instead of apples or raspberries.

GU Energy Stroopwafel: Hot Chocolate, 1.1 oz. – Buy a box of 16 for $22.50

No, that is not a bite outta the side of this stroopwafel—the treat itself arrived a little crumbled and broken. HOWEVER, I did gobble up this chocolatey delight as fast as I could! I adored the hint of cinnamon mixed in with massive amounts of cocoa flavors, and still cannot believe this was only 150 calories. It straight-up tasted like a brownie!

I like it 800x more than a previous stroopwafel I received—and that one was oozing with tough caramel. This one proves that just a hint of sugar and spice can go a long, long way!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup High Protein Bar by JimmyBar, 2.05 oz. – Buy a box of 12 bars for $32.99

Another bar bites the dust. Despite how delicious this one looked, I tasted the artificial protein flavor almost immediately after biting into it. The peanut butter flavor doesn't last long, so it mainly tastes like your standard, protein-packed nutrition bar. (This one is packed with a whopping 18 grams!)

This hefty bar did give me vivid flashbacks of chowin' down on energy bars after brutal cross country practices in high school, so I'm sure it'd be perfect for athletes.

Appleways Whole Wheat Cheddar Crispy Crackers, 1.00 oz. – Retail Value $0.99

These were interesting. I expected a bold cheddar taste, but could hardly find the cheese flavor! Which isn't bad—just a little surprising. They've got a great crunch and you can really taste the whole wheat in their feel-good ingredients. These are basically friendlier, healthier-looking Cheez-Its.

I have to say, my first thought after sampling these crispy crunchers was: "these would go great with some pepper jack cheese."

Chuao Chocolatier Honeycomb Mini Dark Chocolate Bar, 0.39 oz. – Buy a box of 24 bars for $23.95

WWWWINNER. WINNER. Winner of the box! I'm still not over this chocolate bar.

Forget crisped rice; this stunner has crisped, caramelized honey pieces nestled within its chocolatey composition. The honey infuses it with a very curious, compelling first taste, and then warm, smooth-as-heck dark chocolate swoops in and steals the show! It. is. so. wonderful.

MadeGood Mixed Berry Granola Bar, 0.85 oz. – Buy a box of 6 bars for $4.99

I feel like "adorable" is the perfect way to describe these granola bars. 'Cause they really are! They have a light, sweet berry flavor that'll take you right back to the healthy granola bars of your childhood. The glaze was a bit too thick for me, but it wasn't sticky enough to immediately put me on cavity-alert.

A great perk of these bars is that they're "school safe," meaning no nuts or tree nuts! Perfect for little ones' lunches.

Ginger People Original Chewy Ginger Candy, 1.6 oz. – Buy a case of 12 mini boxes for $21.30

Okay, now these had me on cavity alert immediately. They are so, very sticky and chewy! Their ginger flavor is really somethin' though. It honestly tastes like pure ginger, with a touch of added sweetness from the sugary coating. (I thought that was wrapper residue at first, ha!) For the ginger lovers in your life: this could be a great treat. Just make sure a toothbrush is nearby!

Verdict: I was FLOORED by the number of snacks packed into this box! I just kept pulling them out, I swear. Some of them, like the chocolate bars (duh!) and the saltier snacks, blew me away. Others, like the protein bars and fruity sugar-rushes, left me feelin' a little ho-hum. I think SnackNation could sprinkle in a little more variety next time. Fewer bars, more snacky-snacks!

Those jalapeno kettle chips are the best chips I’ve ever had. I got them in another box and fell in love. But they’re impossible to find in stores 🙁

It was HANDS DOWN my favorite item in the box. It tasted so gourmet! I looked for them in my local Giant Eagle this past weekend and, alas, found none. Haha, I’ll have to order some online!
