Cosmo Box Subscription Review + Coupon – March 2018

There's a new subscription box from Cosmopolitan - CosmoBox! Each month you'll receive items selected by Cosmopolitan editors.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: CosmoBox by Cosmopolitan

The Cost: $19.99 a box + $6 shipping

The Products: "Curated by the editors of Cosmopolitan magazine, this unique monthly subscription box brings you full-size quality goodies that compliment and empower your multidimensional lifestyle."

Ships to: US

Keep track of your subscriptions: Add this box to your subscription list or wish list!

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included:

Now, on to the items!

Cosmopolitan Nail Files - Value Listed $8

This is set of 3 nail files.

A useful but not exciting item. And the listed retail value seems a bit high to me, too.

Your Tea in Her Tea – Retail Value $35

This box comes with 60 tea bags.

Here are the ingredients: Camellia Sinensis (oolong tea), Chrysanthemum Tea, Lyciumchinese (goji), Gan-Jiang (ginger).

The tea is designed to "assist in controlling fluid retention, boosting your mood and gently nourishing your digestive system to reduce bloating."

I like the flavor, and I appreciate that it is organic. I'm a tea drinker so I'll definitely use this whole box.

BMC Nail Polish Set – Retail Value $26.99

I'm new to BundleMonster + nail stamping, but after checking out this video, I want to try it!

Unfortunately, this isn't a nail stamping set, but rather a set of 6 stamping nail polishes, so I'd have to buy additional materials to try nail stamping.

These are BOLD colors!

These shades are all high-shine cremes.

I was impressed with the formulas. I needed only one coat for full coverage with every color except yellow.

Here they are on:

La Ritzy Lip Gloss – (Value Listed $20) Retail Value $16

This lip gloss goes on clear, and provides shine without any stickiness. It has a cupcake flavor, too.

Verdict: This box has a retail value of $86. While the value compared to the $25.99 cost is good, I'm disappointed in this box. I've been trying to figure out what subscribers could expect from Cosmo Box, I thought February's box was a great step in the right direction, but this feels like a few steps back.

There doesn't feel to be a theme in this box. I'm not expecting anything big, but this box feels like 4 random items to me. And if the word Cosmopolitan wasn't on the nail files, I never would have seen these items together and thought they were a Cosmo Box. I also think this box is missing a hero item. While the tea is good, we've seen it in quite a few subscription boxes already. The nail polish would have been great if it was a full stamp kit instead, and the lip gloss + nail files are good staples, but not exciting.

Maybe I'm just being a little hard on Cosmo Box because I had set my expectations higher thanks to the February box. And maybe this box will be well-received by people who aren't very familiar with other subscription boxes. What do you think?

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? I believe so, but I recommend contacting their customer care to be sure.

Value Breakdown: At $25.99 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Nail Polish Set: $8.16
  • Lip Gloss: $4.84
  • Tea: $10.58
  • Nail Files: $2.42

Buyer beware!!! I paid for 6 months up front and they charged me this month for the box and will not respond to any of my emails. So far customer service is horrible and I cannot find a number I can call. It even says 0.00 charged in my online account with them but they charged my credit card so be careful and watch your statements if you pay up front 😡😡😡

I’m disappointed with this box too. I don’t drink caffeine which eliminates most teas for me so I’ll have to check on these ingredients. But even if I loved tea, I still feel insulted that they sent me 4+ year old tea with less then a year left before it expires. I have really been wanting some nail polishes so I was excited to see the set in my box (I had different colors than the ones posted) but in the three colors I tried, two of them show the brush strokes. I think it would have served them and the customer better had this been a set that includes the stamps, etches, etc. I would have given up the nail files or lip gloss to be able to use the nail polish how they intend it to be used. For the cost with shipping, I’ll give it one more month before cancelling if they don’t vastly improve their concept, consideration of their customer, and quality of product.

I don’t drink tea and even if I did that is not what I would expect from a Cosmo box. One or 2 bags would have been fine as a freebie but a whole box. What if you don’t like the flavor??

February’s box made perfect sense for Cosmo: a sexy book, body lotion, dark lippie and some decadent sweet treats. While I like this box, I agree with everyone that this is definitely not a Cosmopolitan box – where’s the sexiness?!

I heard the April box will be the bomb..com as stated on my comment section when I posted my box on IG. So, we shall see what’s in store for the next box!

I am pretty sad to about this month. I don’t drink tea so that’s half the box and now I gotta look to see if it’s past its date before give it away. I got the pastel shades of nail polish which I am happy about but the 2 other items are sad to me. I keep looking to see if there was a 5th item but sadly nope. Plus the box was sent out really late and never sent a email about that either.i had to email them to see what’s up. It also would be cool if they made the box more Cosmo then it’s boring box. And they can add a few bonus treats sometimes too. They won’t last long.

I would think Cosmo would have the best Beauty box ever just because of the name but name alone will not carry a way over priced box of stuff to giveaway .
happy that I passed on this 1.

The Cosmo box really seems to be missing the mark for me. The price of the box and items value can’t compete with other boxes like boxycharm, allure, Ricky’s nyc, even Ipsy which is cheaper with smaller samples, seems to have far better samples still. If Cosmo wants to make this become a real thing I think they need to do much better. Their name alone isn’t enough for people to buy it each month forever ya know. It’s like they’re riding on the Cosmo branding assuming that will be enough for people to keep buying each month, regardless of the box contents. But it pales in comparison to other monthly boxes. Hope they can take peoples feedback and improve it!

I think it would have been better if they’d sent pics of what you could do w the polishes. I wasn’t excited but when I saw the rainbow nails above I was super into it. So I was only going to keep a couple of shades but now I’m going to do a rainbow mani 😊

(Of course you could buy 99c polish and do it that way, so I’m not saying it makes this box that great…)

They sent me expired tea, I’m going to call my bank Monday and see what can be done.

Chrissy

Oh my gosh! That is ridiculous. I hope they can fix this in some way for you. I am going to stay away from this box for now unless I see some changes.

Ash

I think it’s awful.

Chrissy

I agree it really is just aweful. I don’t even understand it.

As usual I’m in the minority. I like this box. It doesn’t have the same old stuff that’s in every other subscription box and that I already have 5 of that i haven’t even opened.

Nicole

Yea disappointed with this box. I liked February which was my first box and this one could have been so much better, especially if they included a full stamping kit with plates and a stamp in addition to the polish.

Jamie

I think I’m in the minority here – I like this box! I already have stamping plates but hadn’t found a polish that worked well for stamping. Just tried these out and they work perfectly! I did get different colors than you, but mine are equally bright.

I think if they had swapped out the nail files with a stamping plate this would have been a home run.

This looks like a box thrown together with random old stock items

I mentioned on the forum that they don’t seem to have their curation figured out. If it were my job, I would include an issue of Cosmo each month, and strategically include 4-5 other items that I would also advertise in the magazine. They could include a small beauty, style, and sexy item, or even a journal, if they want to be consistent with their brand. I feel like they have an advantage over the rest of the market, and they aren’t using it. If you find out they need a freelance consultant, let me know! : D

I agree. I really think they could be RAKING it in if they took this box seriously and had someone like you in charge of it to build off their existing strengths. Right now, it seems like they are totally clueless.

Great ideas. I would sub if the box was like those ideas.

I agree! I had pretty high hopes for this box, but I’m now glad I waited. I don’t read Cosmo, BUT I feel like they probably have great partnerships already in place. If this box used those, I bet it would be great.

Kele

I think they they don’t know they need you in their life! I vote that you write whoever is in charge of the box and offer your services by curating a few boxes to show them how it could be done. This is such a meh but I love your suggestions and would totally subscribe if they were implemented. Go for it!

Really underwhelming box. Kind of suprised at how it’s cosmo I would expect better . Even the last box was better then this one and I still did not subscribe was hoping for something really good but oh well…

Elizabeth

I don’t like it at all. I’m so disappointed! Tea is not even close to what I think about for Cosmopolitan. A big let down.

Reply ButtonReply

Kris

I agree that this box feels as though it’s missing a hero item! When I first heard that Cosmo was starting a sub box I just knew that it would be great and that I’d just “have” to sub, but after seeing the reviews, I’m glad that I waited! It’s super disappointing, as I would expect Cosmo to include amazing items…..I’ll just save my money!!

I just got mine and felt the same way….nothing special:( I called to cancel and they said because I used a % off coupon for 6 months I couldn’t cancel and get money back. Ridiculous! Then I saw the date on my tea….mfg 2/2014 exp 2/2019…..think they got a deal! Sad! I hope they fix this….plus they sent late like they were waiting for something….maybe they still are!
