switch packaging

Every piece comes packaged inside a cute black drawstring bag. One large earring set I ordered ended up being split between two bags just to be extra safe (with one earring in each bag).

Chloe Loop Cuff – Retail Value $400.00, Cost to Keep $300.00

I love the simplicity of this piece. It almost looks like the shape of the end of a safety pin. The bright, yellowy metal is smooth and shiny and slid comfortably over my wrist. The bracelet has a circumference of about 6.75″, so it’s not huge on my wrist (which means it doesn’t slide around a ton—something I appreciate). It’s a little playful, a little sophisticated, and very me.

Rebecca de Ravenel Classic Silk Corded Clip Earrings in Yellow – Retail Value $295.00, Cost to Keep $265.00

I’ve been thinking about buying a pair of ball-shaped, dangly earrings like these after seeing them on a zillion Instagram peeps. I figured with this order, I’d try this style on for size before I bit the bullet on an actual purchase. The verdict? I love these earrings! I feel like the goldenrod hue is really fun and flattering on me. Plus it feels like a pop of sunshine. It’s been a long, long time since I’ve worn clip-on earrings, and frankly, I was surprised to see clip-ons as an option on Switch. (For some reason, I thought clip-ons were the stuff of 80s costume jewelry sets—how wrong I was!) I don’t think I could wear these for a whole day without my lobes getting achy, nor do I think I could wear them out dancing (where they might swing off). But for a fun birthday brunch or a wine night with my gal pals, they’d be perfect!

set of chunky wooden clip on earrings

Marni Ivory and Brown Hoop Clip-On Earrings – Retail Value $300.00, Cost to Keep $265.00

This second pair of clip-ons immediately stole my heart. They’re super minimalist in their color palette and shape, but the wood gives them an organic flair and texture. I love how graphic they are—they’re kind of mod, but fresh and very now at the same time. Because they’re clip-ons, they have the same limitations as the last pair (probably can’t bop around to hard in them, nor can I expect to wear them for long hours at a time without them getting uncomfortable). But I’m so excited to try them in a bunch of different outfits and show ’em off to my stylish pals!

The Verdict: I loved my picks for this month! They were all so fun and funky. I’ve started to notice some new faces in the Switch catalog, too—it feels like there’s something new to choose from every month. No way I would be able to afford to own all of these trendy pieces, let alone have enough special occasions in my schedule to justify wearing them more than once or twice. So I love that I can rent them for a fraction of the cost and swap ’em out with something new when I’m ready.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Once I return these pieces, they’ll be available again, but pieces can get snatched up quick! You can, however, always sign up and shop the oodles of other earrings, necklaces, and bracelets they offer!

COUPON: Use code LOVEMSA to save 50% off your first month.

Value Breakdown: These three pieces cost $69.00 to rent, which is a great deal if it works for your budget and needs. It’s is pricier than Rocksbox (which offers mid-range designer jewelry) but less than Rent the Runway (which offers designer jewelry, accessories, and clothes, too). To rent just one piece per month is $29.00, so you’re saving about $6.00 per piece. To buy them at retail, the items I got would cost $995.00 in total.

Also, the member price for all of the pieces is $830.00 in total. But remember, you get $10.00 off because you’re a member! So that’s $820.00 to buy everything.

  1. I love earrings!! That said neither of these are attractive to me. Those brown ones, well the person who said they look like dog nails hit it on the head. What is minimalist about a big clunk of striped wood?

  2. Yikes! Those prices seem really inflated especially for trendy jewelry. I’ve paid $200-500 for a pair of earrings but they have 18k gold and diamonds/sapphires. I guess I’m too old and not up to date on the latest trends.

  3. I agree that I would be terrified of losing one or both clip-ons, but also, how are these so dang expensive? Don’t get me wrong, they’re great, but I don’t understand how they justify the price.
The half-circle earrings remind me of my dog’s toenails when they get too long. They look good on you though.

    • Ha! You are so right! I need to go clip my dogs nails now…

  4. Agree with the other comments – when I saw the prices, I immediately thought, “lose one earring and your budget is out the window. No thanks!”

  5. I would be terrified of losing $265 clip on earrings. The wood part of the 2nd pair reminds me of a bit of Victorian mourning hair-work jewelry.

  6. Loving everything about this month. Such unique pieces!

  7. Love the choices this month, they all look great on you! I really want to join this, but I just can’t. I love that this sub rents high end jewelry, gold/diamonds, but I couldn’t afford to lose anything. Just last week, I was wearing brand new earrings for the first time, and lost one within a couple of hours. I was so sad, and those were only about $60. Can’t imagine if I was wearing rented $800 earrings.

    • Thanks Aarjulllor (and the rest of the commenters who brought up loss concerns)! Most of the items I’ve gotten from Switch haven’t been too precarious, so I haven’t thought that much about losing them. I’m pretty confident in the oomph of the clip-on earrings, so I don’t think they’d get lost unless I really put them to the test (ex: probably not the best pick for whirling around on a dance floor, but totally fine for a fancy dinner date, etc.).

That said, it is good to know what happens if you do lose a piece. The policy is pretty much if you lose it, you bought it – but at the member price, which tends to be at least slightly less than the actual retail value. They are a little lenient about wear and tear, though if something is significantly damaged, you would be out for the member price as well.

If you’re mindful about where you’re keeping your jewelry when it’s not being worn (I’d suggest just using the black Switch drawstring bags they arrive in) and avoid being too tough on the pieces, I’d say you’ve got nothing to worry about. But if you’re prone to losing things or don’t have the budget to play with those kinds of risks, I might recommend trying a different jewelry service!

Thanks so much for sharing your concerns!
