MomGiftBox February 2018 Review
Each box comes with an information card highlighting the brand of each product and a small description. The best part about this card is that it is very personalized with quotes from Jennie on why she selected each item for the month's box, which really adds to the unique curation that you will soon discover in this box!
Dew Puff Original - Retail Value $8.00
This product is very interesting! The sponge can be used as a facial cleanser and is 100% plant-based made from the Konjac root. The package notes that you can use this every day either on its own or with your own facial cleanser. The sponge is hard and dry so you want to get it completely saturated with water before using, ring it out slightly, and then gently exfoliate your skin by rubbing in gentle circles. Once you are done, just ring out the excess water and hang to dry. The best part is that you can use this for up to three months before needing to replace! My skin is fairly sensitive so I am always nervous putting anything rough on my face in fear of irritation or a breakout. I was very happy to see that this sponge left my skin feeling extra soft and hydrated! I noticed a huge difference in how my nightly cream went on and an even bigger difference applying my makeup the next morning. I have been using this sponge nightly and have noticed a huge difference in combating that dry winter skin.
Herbal Moon Apothecary Lavender Sugar Scrub, 4 oz. - Retail Value $12.00
This was a lovely surprise, I mean look at how beautiful this scrub is! Herbal Moon Apothecary is a family-owned business out of Washington state that specializes in handcrafting each of their products in small batches. You can really see the love here! Plus, they use 100% organic essential oils in all of their products. This scrub was exactly what my winter skin needed. I am keeping this container in my shower to use a few times a week. Not only is the lavender scent extremely relaxing, but the sugar scrub provided an incredible exfoliation to my skin that felt hydrating instead of drying.
Matador Droplet Wet Bag - Retail Value $14.99
When I first read the packaging for this product, I thought it was going to be filled with a few garbage bags. I have something similar for diapers, but I was really excited to see that this little keychain holds this reusable wet bag. The container is small enough that you can toss it on your keychain or just on a zipper in your gym bag. You can use this bag for gym clothes, wet swimsuits, or even to hold your lunch. I tossed this droplet bag into my diaper bag not thinking much of it, but it came in handy the other night when my son spilled juice all over his sweater right before music class started. Luckily I had a clean shirt for him to change into, but I was able to grab this wet bag to hold his sticky sweater without ruining anything in my bag. Not something I would ever buy on my own, but in a pinch, it really was handy to have around!
Treesnail Natural Essentials Lip Balm - Retail Value $4.00
Treesnail is an eco-conscious, family-owned business in St. Louis. All of their products are made with 100% natural ingredients, nothing synthetic here! They offer so many different scents in their lip balm, but this particular balm is flavored with peppermint and vanilla. It left my lips with a tingly feeling that let me know it was providing a nice hydration, something I need year round! The balm didn't provide any sort of tint but there was a light shimmer. I usually wear lipstick but I didn't like the added shimmer that this balm added to my usual colors so I will be saving this for the evening or days that I decide to go more natural.
Frais All-Natural Hand Sanitizer, 1.7 fl oz. - Retail Value $5.58 (found here for $4.99)
I don't love using hand sanitizer, I have read so many different articles indicating that it really doesn't disinfect as much as we think. However, with an active toddler running and rolling all over the place, I have found that I just have to use hand sanitizer when we are out. I think I might be sold on this brand though! This sanitizer is made with sugarcane alcohol and eight therapeutic essential oils that are antibacterial. This sanitizer smells great, it doesn't burn when you put it on, and it leaves your skin feeling smooth. What I love most about this product is that I feel comfortable letting my son use it as well!
The Cookie Department Awaken Baked, 3 oz. - Buy a box of 12 for $34.95
I just had a cookie from The Cookie Department and loved it so I was giddy when I saw this flavor! What I've learned about The Cookie Department is that they are a family-owned business in California, focusing on using non-GMO ingredients and locally sourced products. This particular cookie double-chocolate and is infused with a full cup of fair-trade coffee. Please see the "enjoy responsibly" on the front of the cookie bag! I drink way too much coffee so I think it doesn't affect me anymore, but I can safely say that this cookie did give me a nice little energy burst. Not to mention it was so rich and creamy with that fresh out of the oven softness! Even if you don't like a coffee infused cookie, I highly recommend trying other flavors from The Cookie Department, they will rock your taste buds!
Fitccessory Beginner Resistance Band - Retail Value $11.99
I have wanted a resistance band for some time now, so many people that I follow on Instagram swear by them! I haven't gotten around to purchasing one just yet so I was super happy to see this beginners band in this month's box. Plus, it came with this helpful fold-out showing different exercises that you can do with the band. It also gives you a helpful breakdown of how to best tackle each workout and shows what a good routine would be for best results. The band is eco-friendly and super easy to use. What I love the most about this is that I can take it with me wherever and I can use it whenever! As a busy Mom, I don't have a ton of downtime for myself, but I have been able to do these workouts with the resistance band while my son eats dinner, has a snack, or having some quiet play-time. This was an awesome treat to find!
Verdict: This month's MomGiftBox was filled with some really great products, but I felt that the overall curation was a bit all over the place. I really loved the lavender scrub and the resistance band, both products that I have been wanting to purchase for myself but haven't gotten around to it. While I found a use for all of the products this month, many of the items weren't anything that truly blew me away. I do love that MomGiftBox focuses on highlighting small businesses, and it has allowed me to learn about so many different brands that I wouldn't normally have heard about on my own.
