Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each month you get full-size or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag.

This is one of Liz’s top recommendations if you are looking for a beauty box - the value and sample sizes are amazing. (Check out our list of the Top Beauty Boxes for 2017 and our reviews of Cheap Subscription Boxes for more recommendations!)

(FYI – Just like Birchbox, Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month – so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!)

Ipsy February 2018 Review

This month’s bag features makeup, skincare, and hair products. Let’s see what I got!

The theme for this month is “Unzipped,” which is about being who you are and embracing being sexy in your own way. They include a summary on the card and also incorporate the theme into their social media.

Each month, Ispy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their 5 items.

This month, the bag hints at the sexy theme with a dusty pink suede fabric with black lace details.

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Full Coverage Concealer in Medium Tan, 3.25ml

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Full Coverage Concealer in Medium Tan, 3.25ml - Estimated Value $9.75 (Buy an 8ml tube for $24)

Medium-tan is one of the new shades for this concealer and it matches my skin well. The coverage is full and camouflages my redness but it also clings to dry areas a bit. I noticed a bit of creasing later in the day so this definitely needs more setting powder than I usually use. Above, I’ve used it to cover redness on the left side of my face (right of the picture) and I notice quite a difference in the evenness of my skin.

Beauté Basics Foiled Eyeshadow in Lavish, 4g

Beauté Basics Foiled Eyeshadow in Lavish, 4g - Retail Value $14.99

Lavish is described as a warm, shimmery bronze shade but I think it is more coppery. It is very shimmery when used dry but has a foiled finish when used wet. The pigment is great and there is not much fallout. While I’m happy with this, I received a very similar shade of eyeshadow recently so I’m hoping for more variety in the future.

Marc Anthony Grow Long Leave-In Conditioner, 50ml - Estimated Value $1.99 (buy a 6.8oz. bottle for $7.99, found here for $5.99)

I use so much leave in conditioner for my dry hair. This one smells so good – fresh and a little citrusy. It helps to repair split ends and breakage so your hair stays healthy looking while growing. This product does have silicones in it, which I tend to stay away from when I wear my hair curly, so I’ll be saving this for blowout days.

Pur Fully Charged Mascara, 4ml

Pur Fully Charged Mascara, 4ml - Estimated Value $15 (buy a full-size tube for $22)

I’m actually really impressed with this mascara. I got great length and volume without clumping. The short bristles are easy to wiggle at the lash line without getting mascara on my skin. This is going to be my on-the-go mascara.

Naked Cosmetics Lip Scrub in Vanilla Creme, 6.5g - Retail Value $7.99 (found here for $4.99)

This gritty lip scrub does a great job of removing dry, flaky skin while moisturizing at the same time. I like that the sugar doesn’t dissolve too quickly. Plus, it smells like a vanilla cupcake!

Swatches of the eyeshadow and concealer.

Here I’ve used the Bye Bye Under Eye concealer under my eyes and over any other red areas of my face. I used the eyeshadow dry over my whole lid and layered it into my crease for a deeper look. I then swiped on a layer of the Pur mascara.

Verdict: This Ispy box has a value of $49.72. That is quite a bit lower than last month, but it’s still a good deal for $10. I think it’s a great way to try new products without much risk. My favorite item is the mascara because the formula is really impressive. I’m hoping for a little more variety next month in the shades of eye products. I read a tip from Ipsy that if you aren’t thrilled with the shades you are receiving, you can change your skin and hair colors in the style quiz to something different. Even a slight change can make a difference in what they send you. I think I’ll try that to test the theory.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, if you sign up in this month, you’ll get next month’s box as your first box. (Check out our Ipsy Spoilers to see what’s coming up next)

Good to know: Ipsy sends out variations. You may get a completely different bag than me.

Value Breakdown: At $10 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Concealer - $1.90
  • Eyeshadow - $3.10
  • Leave-In Conditioner - $.40
  • Mascara - $3
  • Lip Scrub - $1.60
  • Bag – Not counted toward value

I honestly didn’t have good experience with ipsy. I received a lip stain which smelled awful and dried out my lips, it seemed that they sent old stuff so I unsubscribed. I am now giving Sephora Play a chance. Let’s see how that turns out!

Today’s ipsy offer was too good to resist. Two Seraphine lip scrubs yummmm $12. I’m spending far too much money on their beauty offers.

You make everything look so good! I thought the eyeshadow would be a lot darker, actually, like darker than I would be comfortable with for an everyday /work look, but it looks quite wearable on you.

Great review! Thank you for showing the products on. I really appreciate the one with the concealer, I might actually buy it after seeing it on. I must say, you have the perfect shaped lips. I love your lip product reviews the most, you make everything look so great on! 🙂

Echoing other sentiments – I appreciate that you use the products and show us how they look on you. I hadn’t heard of the PUR mascara before. I like the volume and length it gave you. Does it hold curl well? How did it hold up throughout the day?

I received the Bye Bye Under Eye as well. I love it! Late night don’t haunt my face any more. It lasted all day and didn’t crease. I’ve battled redness all my life. I’m going to try to bee brave enough to use this on my nose and cheeks. The formula allows me to use so little that I think this tube will last me till summer!

If you have redness issues you could try Ben Nye red neutralizer for considerably less $$$ than It and it goes down flawlessly under your foundation or sheered out for “no makeup” looks. It is a much “better” formula than It IMO bc it isn’t sticky like theirs (I have both) 🙂 There are several shade ranges for different skin types as well and you can get it at Frends Beauty or just google it, I’m sure it’s all over the net 🙂 They have blue neutralizer too for under eyes or dark eye lids or veins.. Hope that helps with alternative options!

This is the first ipsy bag that I have received that I was disappointed in. I didn’t get to chose my items this month for some reasons and nothing I received was something that I could use. I don’t know why I didn’t get my email asking me to pick out the items I would like to receive, and up until now I’ve had nothing g but great things to say about ipsy. I still think the value is great as for most of the products and I’m hoping I will be offered a choice for March. Thanks again for all the great products at a low low price and I hope March’s glam bag will be great!!!

I think they stopped the option to select a specific product. They replaced it with a new feature called Wish List. You can find it by going into your account settings, under the tab “Subscription”, then if you you at the box at the left “Glam Bag subscriotion” in pale gray at the bottom it says “Cancel my subscription”. Click on that and it will give you options to improve your assortment, by selection what you would like to receive and what you would not like to receive. These are products that they will most likely feature in the upcoming months. If you say that you want to receive something, they will do their best to send it to you. See if you have that option. They are still slowly rolling it our, so it might not be visible to all ipsters.

The option to pick items was a trial run that they have discontinued. Sadly, you can no longer “customize” your bag

They have something new. Where you can “Improve Glam Bag Products”. Go to Account >Edit Account Settings>Membership >scroll down to “Improve Glam Bag Products”. Answer the questions and choose which items you like and you may get them in your next 3 bags.

Tiffany, I’m another person who loves that you show us the makeup on your face. I haven’t found a good under eye concealer, but I’m super impressed with this one!

Agree with Esther! @Tiffany – your reviews are great! I love that you try out the looks for us too. It’s always a bit different to see swatches on an arm than to see it applied on how it should.
