Ipsy Review #2 – January 2018
Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each month you get full-size or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag. I think it’s one of the best value beauty subscriptions and a great way to build out your makeup collection on the cheap!
This is one of Liz’s top recommendations if you are looking for a beauty box – the value and sample sizes are amazing. (Check out our list of the Top Beauty Boxes for 2017 and our reviews of Cheap Subscription Boxes for more recommendations!)
(FYI – Just like Birchbox, Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month – so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!)
My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).
The Subscription Box: Ipsy
The Cost: $10 a month (free shipping)

Ipsy January 2018 Review
This month’s bag features makeup, skincare, and hair products. Let’s see what I got:
The front of the included card this month gives you a saying to complete, “I will conquer ________.” They then want ask you to post a picture on social media. The text on the back explains the theme for this month, “Game Face”.
Each month, Ipsy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their 5 items.
This month, the bag has a sporty feel with blue mesh and neon yellow and pink reflective materials. Super cute for tossing in your gym bag.
Trust Fund Beauty Lipgasm Lip Scrub, 8ml – Retail Value $8
This lip scrub smells SO good, like vanilla sugar. It has a good amount of scrubbing power and wipes away easily leaving my lips smooth and ready for lip color.
Alterna Caviar CC Cream 10-in-1 Leave-In Hair Perfector, 25ml – Estimated Value $8.78 (Buy a 74 ml tube for $26 or 150 ml tube for $42)
My hair can always use more moisture so I use leave-in conditioners every time I style. This stuff smells great and isn’t too heavy. It does have dimethicone in it, so it won’t work if you are trying to avoid silicones (like in the curly-girl method).
Bellápierre StayPut Brow Gel in Cardamom, 2.3g – Retail Value $25
This is a waxy brow gel that fills in and holds brows in place. This shade would be perfect for someone with slightly lighter brows than me. I like the formula but, because it was too light, it wouldn’t blend in and look natural. The built-in brush is a convenient idea.
Dirty Little Secrets Eye Shadow in Bikini, 1.5g – Retail Value $12
This eyeshadow is a metallic copper that really has some shine to it. It is easy to blend and has big color payoff. You can see how I used it dry below but with a damp brush, you can get a high foil look.
Ciaté Fierce Flicks Precision Tip Liquid Liner, 1.7ml – Retail Value $19
A felt tip liner with an intense opaque black color. Yes! And, all-day wear with no flaking or smudging.
Swatches of the brow gel, eyeliner, and eyeshadow.
Here is a look with the brow gel, eyeliner, and eyeshadow. I used only the included eyeshadow on my lids and applied it with a dry brush.
Verdict: This Ispy Glam Bag has a value of about $72.78. That is so great for a cost of $10. And, 4 of the 5 products are full-size! I think that is a great way to try new products without much risk. My favorite item is the lip scrub because I have been wanting to try one that isn’t DIY. The brow gel wasn’t the exact shade for me but I liked trying the product type. The bag is cute and feels sturdy too!
To Wrap Up:
Value Breakdown: At $10 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:
- Lip Scrub – $1.10
- Hair Cream – $1.21
- Brow Gel – $3.44
- Eyeshadow – $1.65
- Liquid Liner – $2.61
