In Your Case January 2018 Review

This month’s theme: space! (And cute critters, apparently, judging by the occasional animal found on a few of this month’s items. Maybe we can just chalk up January’s theme to the wonders of the natural world, eh?)

Outer Space Pen/Pencil Pack and Bookmark Clip

Outer Space Pen/Pencil Pack and Bookmark Clip – Estimated Value $1.50 USD per piece (value based on similar items)

So dang adorable! I love the rubbery decals in this colorful set. The blue bookmark clip stars a simple paper clip design and a ponytail-sporting alien, while the black gel pen features an orange, brown, and taupe Saturn tchotchke atop its lid. There are two lead pencils, (one says “Reach for the Stars” and the other says “Out of This World!), but my favorite piece in this set is the yellow light-up pen, which flashes and glows as you write!

“Nikki Strange” Celestial Notebook

“Nikki Strange” Celestial Notebook – Estimated Value $7.06 USD (value based on a similar item)

“My Time to Shine” is emblazoned in gold across the starry cover of this navy-blue notebook. Each page is lined, which makes it perfect for journaling, daydreams, and doodles.

Outer Space Eraser Set

Outer Space Eraser SetEstimated Value $6.90 USD

More galactic desk pals! This trio of quirky erasers is an out-of-this-world way spice up your desk supplies. Each lil’ guy is just under 1.5 inches long, and they all feature bright primary colors on their (surprisingly effective!) eraser surfaces. A heads up: the tip of the rocket seemed to be a little precariously fastened, so erase gently when using this piece.

Solar System Stickers Scenes

Solar System Stickers ScenesBuy a 14-pack for $2.99 USD

The large, starry backdrop on this sticker set could stand to be a little more vibrant, but the individual stickers that accompany it are vivid and bright. I’d have more fun placing the rocket and planet stickers on the cover of my notebook, rather than sticking ‘em on the larger space sticker!

“Miss Me” Outer Space Sticky Notes

“Miss Me” Outer Space Sticky NotesRetail Value $2.25 USD

These are a playful twist on Post-It notes. Featuring 4 ringed planets orbiting the earth, these circular sticky notes would be awesome to jot ideas on while reading! Being able to stick each note inside pages as you read would be a handy way to help little ones keep their ideas organized.

POP-UP 3D Greeting Card

POP-UP 3D Greeting Card

POP-UP 3D Greeting CardRetail Value $3.68 USD

The dancing, dapper fox on this stationery set seems a little out of place in the context of the box’s outer-space theme, but its cute factor more than makes up for that! This 3D card is wonderfully detailed and beautifully illustrated. I love the fox’s little top hat, and the yellow and purple pop-up butterflies hovering nearby add to its charm! The green-and-white striped envelope contrasts nicely with the woodland design, too.

“Decorate Your Life” Washi TapeRetail Value $2.59 USD

Although I don’t have many uses in mind for it, this jellyfish-patterned Washi tape is one of my favorite parts of the In Your Case box! The 15mm x 7m roll provides a substantial amount of masking tape, and iridescent jellyfish illustrations atop a dark-blue adhesive base can add a tasteful touch of color to any arts and craft project.

Verdict: I can absolutely see how a child’s eyes would light up upon opening this stationery box. I’m so glad the box isn’t packed with only sticker sheets like so many other stationery boxes are! The pens and erasers are all high quality, and I can see them costing double the price if I were to shop for pieces as ornate as these in stores. In Your Case is packed with color and imagination-sparking materials. My only critique would be a bit more consistency when it comes with sticking to theme each month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, though although In Your Case does sometimes sell past boxes on their site shop. Order before the 15th of each month to receive the current month’s box!

Value Breakdown: This box cost me $29.99 + $8.75 shipping and taxes, which means that each of the 7 sets of items in the box has an average cost of $5.53.

The pony tailed alien is actually a doll from lilo and stitch. Weird.

Loba

I thought it was a voo doo doll…

But since Stitch is an alien I guess it still fits with the theme.

Hahah oh my gosh, what in the world?! Welp, I guess we can chalk that one up to this box’s tendency to have a few out-of-left-field items!
