California Found January 2018 Review

Instead of a booklet or pamphlet, California Found sends these really cool info cards for each product. They are very nice quality and informative.

Hand-Painted Utensil Set by NevMade

Hand-Painted Utensil Set by NevMade – Retail Value $38

NevMade is the brand of Mimi Winters, a Sacramento-based artisan who creates housewares that “bring a touch of yesterday’s California into your Decor of Tomorrow” with her mid-century style pieces. I love using wooden utensils in the kitchen, and these are just lovely! They appear to be wood and acrylic, and very nicely made. These will be a wonderful addition to my kitchen!

4 oz. Naked Bath Tea by Naked Scrubs

4 oz. Naked Bath Tea by Naked Scrubs – Listed Value $15

This bath tea smells amazing and has real flower petals in it! I use some in a soak this week and the salts made me feel super relaxed. Naked Scrubs is the company of Angela Johnson-Rogers, a California artisan who used the power of natural ingredients and botanicals to heal her own skin problems.

Handmade Greeting Cards by The Wee Tree Co. – Listed Value $14.25

I love having interesting and beautiful blank note cards to send, and these are just adorable! They are a little on the small side, so they are just right for short notes packed with a little extra sentiment. I especially love the macarons! The Wee Tree Co. is the brain child of LA-based artisan Rosalind Bell.

Healing Stone Necklace by Kalcie

Healing Stone Necklace by Kalcie – Retail Value $36

I went to Kalcie’s online shop to look up this beautiful tiger’s eye and gold fill necklace, and now I want one of everything in there! This healing stone collection is totally my cup of tea! I want one of each! I am happy to have received the tiger’s eye stone, it is good for protection and bravery. The stone is also super smooth and perfectly round.

Pacific Flake & Applewood Smoked Sea Salts by La Luna Salt

Pacific Flake & Applewood Smoked Sea Salts by La Luna Salt – Listed Value $14

This was another online shop that I spent quite a bit of time browsing. They have such interesting flavors! Draft Beer? Ginger? Smoked Irish Whiskey? Fun! The flavors they sent were awesome, too. We have been using Pacific Flake instead of our regular table salt for the past week, and it has a great consistency, plus you can use less and still get the right amount of seasoning. I used the smoked flavor on a roast recently, and it really gave it a nice hint of smoke. Tasha Moon is the owner of La Luna Salt, and she encourages the mixing and blending of her artisan salts. This was a fun inclusion!

The Girl Friday Bag by MidiQueen Handbags

The Girl Friday Bag by MidiQueen Handbags – Retail Value $44

I was so excited to see this crossbody purse in my box this month! It’s such nice quality, and real leather! The leather is just raw, cut leather, but it’s nice and thick and super soft. The body measures just 4.5″x7.5″, the perfect phone-keys-wallet size bag. I love it! The designer is MidiQueen Handbags out of Ventura, California.

The Verdict: This was my second box from California Found, and again, I absolutely love everything I received! I love artisan boxes because I know everything I am getting has that extra level of specialness, and this is definitely one of the best location-specific artisan boxes I have ever received. My favorite items this month were the necklace and the bag, of course! So pretty! I also cannot help but notice the value of everything adds up to $161.25, which is way, way more than the promised value of $90, and the box costs only $49, including free shipping!!!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the February box. From California Found:

If you subscribe on or before the 30th of the month, you will receive that month’s box.  If you subscribe after the 30th, your subscription will begin with the next month’s shipment.  If we are sold out of boxes the month you subscribe, you will be notified and your subscription will begin the following month.

Coupon – Use code MSALOVE20 to save 20% off your first box!

Value Breakdown: At $49 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  1. This is an incredible box. I subbed after seeing the spoilers a few weeks ago hoping for January, but I was just a little too late. Still, I’m excited to see what February has in store. Lately I’m feeling drawn to off-the-beaten path boxes like this one and Rose Post.

  2. I totally would have loved this box. The delicate jewelry and the Boho bag are so darling.
One more month’s review and if it’s still this style, I’m in.

  3. Thanks For another incredible review, Anna! As Mary mentioned, the February collection is sold out and we have a limited supply of March subs available. 💛💛💛

    • Will there be a spoiler for the March box? Thanks

      • Yes! There will be spoilers for both the February and the March collections in the coming days and weeks. 💛

        • Thank you🙂

  4. Awesome box. The necklace is purdy. I might pick one up.

  5. I thought that necklace was beautiful and am currently looking on their site to purchase on its own. I love what it represents and I can wear it everyday!

    • Visit and use the coupon code in our “Meet the Maker – Kalcie” blog post! We LOVE Kalcie. Definitely look for this line in a future box!

  6. This is a great box. I loved mine. There were variations. I had a different card. My bag wad black and my necklace was lapis. If you are looking for a new monthly box the quality is terrific and the discount worked for a 3 month prepaid as well.

    • Ooo I bet the lapis is beautiful!

  7. February is already sold out! 🙂 When I went to sign-up, the first month available was March!

    • Thanks for letting us know Mary!

  8. This box looks awesome, but I’m on a budget right now so I can’t add any new boxes definitely one for the future
