Every month, your candle comes usually wrapped in a square of fabric, but since December they've been sending drawstring bags instead. This snowflake and fox print is SO cute!

Each box comes with an info card detailing the candles featured that month:

Now, on to the candles!

Eleventh Candle Co. Candle in Winter - Retail Value $18

Eleventh Candle Co. gives back, too:

Each candle is handcrafted, packaged, and shipped from our social enterprise shop in Columbus, Ohio.

When you purchase a candle, you’re changing lives—the once trafficked woman in Ohio is employed, a village in Ethiopia is supported and orphaned children are welcomed into homes.

This scent is a blend of evergreen trees, cinnamon, clove, and vanilla. AKA the perfect winter blend. This is officially one of my favorite winter/holiday scents of all time! And I love that this 100% soy wax, too!

Eleventh Candle Co. Candle in Cranberry Cider - Retail Value $12.50

And with this subscription, you also get a 4-ounce mini candle.

This scent is a blend of orange, cranberry, and spice. To me, it feels like an autumn scent more than a winter one, but that's just my personal preference.

And each Vella Box also comes with a little treat like a food or beauty item:

Aromafloria For Feet's Sake Spa Foot Butter - 1 oz Value $3.25

This foot cream is all-natural, hydrating without being greasy (with a lot of foot creams, I feel like I have to wait a while for them to dry), and the peppermint scent is sweet and subtle! This is pretty much a perfect winter box extra!

Verdict: This month's VellaBox has a value of about $33.75. I think the pricing is fair, and I like that the $30 option of this subscription gives you two different candle scents from a line so you can really get a sense of the company/brand.

I really wanted this months box but it’s only available till the 20th. I wish companies would sent MSA boxes earlier to review so we still had a chance to get them before the cut off date. Oh well, I guess it saves me some money!

Hi Danielle,

Adam here, the founder of Vellabox. Thank you for the suggestion! We will plan to ship the MSA boxes sooner so the MSA posts are able to be written before the order cutoff on the 20th of each month.

Warm regards,
Adam

FYI: We intentionally order extra product each month, so if you’re ever wanting the month’s Vellabox after the cutoff or a specific previous Vellabox, we can almost always make it happen for your first box. We can also ship your first box after the 20th if requested, but the renewal on the 1st for the next box would still occur. We can accommodate most requests (within reason) – just let us know any specific requests in the “Order Notes” section at checkout or send us a quick email at [email protected]. If we are unable to fulfill any request, we will reach out before we ship to provide alternative options (or refund/cancel the order if desired).

Is this box still available?

Hi Suzanne, see my comment to Danielle above for more info. I imagine you may no longer want the January Vellabox now that it is spring, but we do still have a few left if you have your heart set on a fox bag! (: [or the January featured favorites, of course]

I love my Vellabox subscription (I get the Lucerna), but I feel like neither December or January’s candles have any throw. I usually use them in my tiny bathroom so they should fill the room. Such a bummer because both scents have smelled awesome when I’ve first opened the lids!

Totally agree. I thought January especially had terrible throw, which was a bummer when I spent $30. I could have the cranberry cider lit a few feet from where I was sitting and barely be able to smell it, and as soon as I put it out, the scent was gone. The winter candle was slightly better, but not by a lot. I actually really enjoyed the December box, myself though. I loved the foot butter though! I’m thinking to buy the full size, it was my favorite part of the box.

I have a friend who pours candles and he told me that candles either have a “cold throw” or a “hot throw”. Cold throws smell better when they are unlit, or fresh out of the box, and hot throws smell better when they’re burning. Soy candles are more often than not cold throws, particularly if they’re scented with essential oils.
I think it’s a trade off to be made with the healthier burning soy.

Oh, that’s interesting to know — and such a good point about trade off for a cleaner burn. Thanks for sharing!

beth

I have made my own soy candles and only only were they super strong cold but also when they are burning too. If you use good fragrance oils and you put enough as well. Also some fragrance oils scents work better in soy better then others too. The oils are the most expensive part of making candles.

Jenny

I think you meant the value is around $33.75, not $3.75.
