Trunk Club Plus Clothing December 2017 Review

trunk club december 2017 booklet

So first, a little more about how Trunk Club works: When I signed up, I took a pretty lengthy style questionnaire online. Then I was matched with a stylist who asked me even more about what I like and what I was looking for via an online chat. Based on this information, she selected several items for me to try on at home. She then sent me a link to preview all my items! There is also an option to allow your stylist to send a few surprise pieces.

This packet was included in my trunk.

The front of the enclosed booklet now has instructions!

Inside is a note from my stylist, Maureen. She is a new (to me) stylist, but I like how she really paid attention to my account details!

trunk club december 2017 booklet invoice

This is my invoice. It lists the items I was sent and the cost to keep each item. My $25 styling fee will be deducted from anything I decide to keep.

These items were also in the packet. When I've finished repackaging the items I don't want to keep in the box, I just put this return label on it and use the tape straps to tape it back up! So convenient!

My new stylist Maureen is officially my favorite! Why? Because she is the only one I've had who actually sent me shoes in a wide size! Hooray! These booties are gorgeous and totally my style - this is an easy win. They are also very sturdy and well made of these amazing tapestry uppers. Love!

You can see me wearing them in the picture with the black top below.

Mock Choker Neck Velvet Burnout Top by Daniel Rainn - Cost to keep $89

This top is just so gorgeous! It's velvet and lace, and it feels amazing! The lace is so unique and beautiful! This top is funky and cool and totally my style. I just wonder if the choker makes my neck look too stumpy? I wish it didn't have that detail.

Rippled & Embellished Skinny Jeans by Seven7 - Cost to keep $89

Seven7 is probably my favorite jeans brand of all times. Their jeans are always so figure-flattering, and they have just the right amount of stretch! These also have little sequins embedded behind the distressed areas, which is a really cool effect. I'm not in love with the wash on these, though.

Crochet Trim Spliced Knit Top by Daniel Rainn - Cost to keep $69

This is one of my favorite pieces in the box, for sure. It's a nice comfortable knit, the black is flattering, and I love both the neckline and the crochet detail. It's super cute! I have a ladies' night coming up and this top would be absolutely perfect. Possibly with some tapestry booties?

Sheer Shadow Stripe Top by Trouve

Sheer Shadow Stripe Top by Trouve - Cost to keep $69

I like this polyester chiffon top a lot more than I thought I would, for sure. My main issue is just that it's more low-cut than I usually like to wear. It's also very sheer! I think the French cuffs are really stylish, though.

The Perfect Shirt by BP

The Perfect Shirt by BP - Cost to keep $49

Sorry to be making a face, but this top really did not fit, and I was sort of holding my shoulders weird to keep the buttons on the chest from flying open! This 100% viscose top seems well-made and is pretty, but it comes in several other prints that I would probably have preferred. This print, of course, reminds me of a prison uniform. I noticed that both this top and the one before are from the Misses' department and not Plus, so I'm guessing Maureen doesn't know that there is usually a difference in sizing.

Floral Print High/Low Peasant Blouse by Caslon

Floral Print High/Low Peasant Blouse by Caslon - Cost to keep $59 (Not available on Nordstrom.com)

This is a really pretty cotton blend top, and I love the neckline! I feel like the sleeves are a little bit of overkill, as much as I love bell sleeves. It just seems like the neckline + the sleeves + the ruffles + the hi-low is all a lot when you put it all together. I had similar issues with the Caslon top they sent me last month, it had a lot going on also.

These jeans, on the other hand, are so super cute! I love the embroidery! I also love the colors and the wash, plus they fit really well. (I am wearing them in the picture above with the Caslon top). They have just the right amount of stretch, too.

This top is just about perfect! I love the colors and the print, and it's a good cotton weight for spring. My favorite thing about it is the trim - look how stylish that is! Love it!

Waterfall Jacket by Evans - Cost to keep $105

This jacket is probably my favorite piece in the box! It's a faux leather (polyurethane) with a suede effect on the lapels. It looks so chic! Plus it's really flattering. I can think of about a million places and reasons to wear this!

This purse is fun, but not something I am in the market for right now. I really like the color, though! This is also made of polyurethane, and it's really roomy with a fun animal print lining. Super cute!

Twist Front Cozy Fleece Pullover by Gibson

Twist Front Cozy Fleece Pullover by Gibson - Cost to keep $49

I wish you could feel how incredibly soft this top is. This is unlike any fleece I have ever felt! It is so warm and cozy, too. I really like the knot detail in the front, but I think I might like it better in a larger size.

The Verdict: I am a big fan of Trunk Club! This month was a little nuts as they sent me TWELVE pieces! It's a lot to take in, I know! I got a lot of winners in there, but I think my favorites would be the boots, the black crochet top, and the black jacket. So much fun stuff! I think Trunk Club is a little on the spendy side, but it's still loads of fun to try all the pieces!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Trunk Club curates its boxes based on each individual's preferences as well as what's available. What you get might not be the same as what I got, but you also might get something that fits your style and body even better than the looks above! Sign up and see what they choose for you!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $25 with free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the 12 items inside is $900.90. The cost of each item is listed alongside it above, but if I choose to keep anything, the $25 cost of the box would also be applied to the purchase. That's an average $75 an item, which is on par with the brands included.

It would be really helpful if you listed the sizes your purchased. This way women of a similar size could use your modeling photos are reference for what to size to get themselves. Many of the fashion bloggers that do hauls or Nordstrom Anniversary sale hauls list the size, if it’s TTS, ran big/small etc. I was helping a friend select some items, but she didn’t even know what size she herself was much of the time and it’s hard to know what size to get especially with online shopping so any help is welcomed! However, if you are uncomfortable doing so, I totally understand!

While the clothes are cute and most look so good on you, Anna, I feel everything is overpriced. I see nothing I would pay the asking price for. You can go to any TJ Maxx, Ross, etc and get the same style for a third of the price. Unless you absolutely hate shopping in stores I don’t see the value at all.

Anna

Thanks for the compliment Michelle! I totally feel you on the price issue. I don’t hate shopping in stores, I just don’t often have time. So the convenience factor is nice. I think if you usually shop Nordstrom or similar department stores, it’s really nice to have someone pull items for you to try at home, shipped, basically for free if you keep anything at all. But again, I totally get it, and there are many other styling services that are less expensive, too.

Courtney

I agree with this, but I also feel like it could be applied to any full-price Nordstrom purchase, not Trunk Club-specific. (And frankly, these selections seem like some of the least expensive options for Nordstrom-stocked brands.)

Anna

You’re right, Courtney, they are. One advantage of working with a stylist is that you can talk about what price points you are comfortable with. I totally understand both of you, though.

Jessica

I would love to know which items, if any, you actually kept. That jacket and embroidered jeans look great on you.

Thanks Jessica! I kept the black top and the jeans. 🙂

Their stuff is always so expensive. I pretty much would never pay that much for basic clothing. The jacket and bag seemed much more reasonable though.

I haven’t been able to do the poll’s for over a month. Does it work better for a certain browser? I used to be able to do them in Chrome! Looks like you enjoyed most of the items!

Polls are also broken for Microsoft Edge, so it might not be a browser issue.

Ana, if you love that jacket, Just Fab has a nearly (or possibly exactly) identical style for a fraction of the price. I have it in 3 colors, it fits really well and I get tons of compliments when I wear any of the colors. There are some great tops in this box. Too bad the dusty rose top is so busy, because it’s a great color on you. Crossover plus tie front plus French cuffs is a lot for one piece!
