Bubbles & Books January 2018 Review
This month’s book takes us to winter in western Maine during the “storm of the century.” A troubled woman crosses paths with a man that is willing to help her get home safely before the storm hits but is eager to get away from the drama that she seems to carry along. Fate and the storm seem to other plans for these two, though, as they get stuck out in a cabin with no place else to go until the storm clears. I only just started reading this book, but so far I am hooked! The two characters have a witty banter that I can’t deny, and I can feel their love story building. Plus, being deep into winter myself, a good love story that takes place in the middle of a huge winter storm feels just right. From Amazon:
“A page-turner, a love story and a vivid drama of man (and woman) against the elements . . . A great read by a wonderful writer.” —Newsday When the “Storm of the Century” threatens western Maine, Eric closes his office early and heads to the grocery store. In line ahead of him, an unkempt and seemingly unstable young woman comes up short on cash, so Eric offers her twenty bucks and a ride home. Trouble is, Danielle doesn’t really have a home. She’s squatting in a cabin deep in the woods: no electricity, no plumbing, no heat. Eric, with problems of his own, tries to walk away, but finds he can’t. Fending off her mistrust of him, he gets her set up with food, water, and firewood, and departs with relief. But when he climbs back to the road, his car is gone, and in desperation he returns to the cabin. As the storm intensifies, these two lost souls are forced to wait it out together. Deeply moving, frequently funny, The Remedy for Love is a story about the secrets revealed when there is no time or space for anything but the truth. “A superbly grown-uplove story.” —Kirkus Reviews, starred review “Brilliant . . . A tale that is as gripping as any Everest expedition–and that is also tender and terrifying and funny and, in the end, so true it seems inevitable.” —Peter Heller, author of The Dog Stars and The Painter “Roorbach . . . is at the top of his literary game here. He is masterful in inviting readers along, allowing them to slowly get to know these two strangers as they get to know one another.” —Portland (Maine) Press Herald “Snowbound in Maine, two strangers struggle to survive–fighting, flirting, baring secrets. Their sexy, snappy dialogue will keep you racing through.” —People “One of the best novels of this or any year . . . A flat-out funny, sexy, and poignant romantic thriller.” —David Abrams, author of Fobbit
Gimble Traveler – Retail Value $9.99
I was really excited to receive a product this month that is book related. This little contraption is a reading stand and page holder that you can use while traveling, sitting outside, or working out. It fits on a hardback, paperback, and a magazine as well which is awesome! I will say I fumbled slightly when trying to get this on my book and even more when trying to turn the page, but once I got the hang of it I can really see the benefit. I am going to the beach this summer and will be using this for my books and magazines to keep my pages in place on a windy day!
Crazy Love Bath Bomb, 4.5 oz. – Estimated Value $3.75
This bath bomb is so pretty and makes your bath a lovely pink color. I love treating myself to a weekly bath so receiving a bath bomb is always a welcomed treat. This bath bomb has a very feminine scent to match the lovely pink color with its subtle hints of floral.
Basilur Moroccan Mint Tea, 1.5 g – Buy a 100 g box for $12.90
Nothing is better than curling up with a book and a hot drink. I am a big coffee drinker, but I do appreciate a lovely cup of tea. This green tea is exactly my type with its strong mint scent and flavor. It smells so fresh and really helped to wake me up. I thought adding this green tea was such a nice touch and really wounded out the whole box.
A bath scrub is exactly what my skin needs this time of year as we are in mid-winter. I used this quickly on my hands and was left with an incredibly smooth feeling, a strong detoxifier. The lavender provided a soft relaxing scent that mixed so nicely with the fresh mint. I can’t wait to use this in the shower!
Verdict: This month’s Bubbles & Books felt like a complete experience! From the book set in the winter to the tea bag, and then finally to the bath products, I thought that the curation was so on point. I also thought the book traveler was a fun little surprise, I have never received a book specific product from Bubbles & Books. Receiving these larger items and a higher retail valued book really shows the quality of this box and overall value!
To Wrap Up:
Can I still get this box if I sign up today? No, you will start receiving the February box. From Bubbles & Books:

Value Breakdown: This box comes in at $27 a month (including the $3 shipping fee). I received a total of 5 products which averages out to $5.40 per item. I do think this is a bit high for some of the smaller items, but I think the overall experience plus the higher priced items are what brings the value.
