Trunk Club For Women December 2017 Review

My month’s trunk arrived to me in its Trunk Club trademark suitcase; the details in its design are just top notch! I am fond of the incredibly personalized details in their packaging, especially the note from my stylist and itemized invoice.

Enclosed with the selections my stylist, Stefania, chose for me was this crisp envelope; it included a sweet note from my stylist with suggestions for styling, an invoice for everything in the box, a shipping label, and tape to use to reseal my box for returned items.

Here is a close up of the listings of the items I received and their cost points.

Also included in this month’s box is an ad for Trunk Club as a service to use for the holidays!

Sequin Mesh Pencil Skirt by Rebel Wilson X Angels, Size 3x — Retail Value $119

Nothing says holiday glamour like sequins as far as I am concerned! I am glad that Stefania sent me another Rebel Wilson X Angels item to try. The quality and style of this brand are generally impressive. The material has ample stretch, but sadly the skirt is a bit oversized on me. I am curious what the 2x or even 1x would look like since the fabric possesses so much stretch! Aside from this not fitting me how I would prefer, I do love this skirt. The sequin scales make me feel like I have a mermaid tail! I paired the skirt with a leopard coat, black booties, and a necklace from Jewelry Subscription box. This skirt could be dressed up with a long sleeved black pussy bow top and heels or dressed down with your favorite band or novelty shirt and leather moto jacket.

Stripe Fit and Flare Dress by Eliza J, Size 3x - Retail Value $98

This dress has such a classic and simple flared style that is incredibly flattering. The dress’s fabric consists of 90& acrylic, 9% nylon, and 1% spandex so it has a nice form-fitting stretch. I styled this with my biker jacket and booties and my favorite large brim hat. This item is great for layering and would look fantastic with tights and boots for a pulled together winter look. The only negative is the cost at $98. Even with the $25 discount if I kept it, it would be $73. I feel like I could find similar styles at retailers like Target, JC Penney, or Kohls for significantly less. One may be able to justify the versatility of a dress like this for the cost, but sadly this is going in the go back pile for me.

Crushed Velvet Top in Peacock by Vince Camuto, Size 3x - Retail Value $69 (unavailable on site, but same style in Iced Rose here for $46.23)

My stylist, Stefania, is well aware of my love for velvet and jewel toned pieces. She included this precious teal crushed velvet top in her offerings. The top has ample stretch, but the top was a tad oversized on me. I liked the roomier style on me due to how it draped. I paired the top with a black mini skirt and black knee high boots from a previous Shoe Dazzle review. This top would look great with leggings, booties, and a cropped moto jacket or with jeans, flats, and a blazer for a dressier casual look.

Jacquard Faux Fur Jacket by Rebel Wilson X, Size 3x — Retail Value $198

When I opened the box initially I gasped and said, “WOW,” when I saw this jacket. The detail, quality, and color combinations are fantastic and gorgeous. That lilac against the deep jade is stunning. Part of its appeal for me is that the jacket immediately made me think of Lil Kim’s late 90’s styles! The jacket itself is a bit oversized on me much like the sequin skirt. I wouldn’t mind trying the 2x on to see how it fits as well. Much like the skirt included in this box, as beautiful of a piece as this is, I can’t justify buying it at the nearly $200 price tag. This would be a piece I sense I will be looking at frequently on the Nordstrom site to see if it drops in price once out of season. What a beaut, though!

Floral Georgette Split Neck Blouse by Daniel Rainn, Size 3x — Retail Value $79

This top is absolutely beautiful! I love the floral print because it has a fantastic vintage 70s feel. The sleeves’ detailing is retro due to the ruffled cuffs, yet very modern due to the sheer sleeves and ties at the wrists. I styled this top with my trusty mini skirt, knee-high boots, and large brim hat. This would also look fantastic with a brown faux suede or denim jeans, booties, and a biker jacket for a tough, yet casual look. $79 is a bit steep, but this top is rather adaptable. I am already envisioning the several ways I would style it to justify the cost!

Lace and Ruffle Chocker Neck Top by Michel Studio, Size 3x — Retail Value $58

This top may be my favorite piece in the bunch. Why, you ask? It is the most versatile piece included! The choker neckline doesn’t gag me like some items like this do. I adore the lace detail on the shoulder portion of the sleeves. The material also has a nice stretch. This top would pair fantastically with jeans and booties, or with a floral mini skirt, black tights, and crushed velvet booties. The price is right too, especially after the $25 styling fee discount would apply. Not too shabby! I styled the top with a metallic leopard print mini skirt and pointy booties for a post-work cocktails ensemble.

Animal Print Foil Overlay top by EVANS, Size 3x—Retail Value $74

If you have been following my reviews, you probably are aware of my obsession with animal print. It is rather rare that I find an animal print I don’t like. Well, I guess there is a first for everything because I am not feeling this EVANS top. The asymmetrical hem feels dated, and not in the retro way I like. I do appreciate the flowy material and how it drapes, but I am not sold. I also feel the price is unreasonable when I have seen similar tops from other retailers for half of the price. Hard pass.

Verdict: Overall, I enjoyed the selections from Stefania in this month’s Trunk Club box. I loved the entire box, with the exclusion of the EVANS asymmetrical animal print top. If I had extra money during the holidays, I would have purchased the Georgette top and the Michel Studio top. They both were absolutely gorgeous and their prices are justifiable for the wear I would get out of both items. The selections this month truly reflect my style. Stefania and I talk often through the handy Trunk Club app and I actually sent links to different pieces from the site I liked. Her selections are proof she took our conversation to heart and that is something I truly appreciate. I have said it various times, but the app is one of my favorite parts of the Trunk Club service. It allows you to interact with your stylist so that you really get a customized and personal box. Plus, having the luxury of sending hand-picked Nordstrom brand pieces to your door without having to deal with the crowds and throngs of people during this hectic holiday season! That, in of itself, is priceless to me!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Trunk Club curates its boxes based on each individual’s preferences as well as what’s available. What you get might not be the same as what I got, but you also might get something that fits your style and body even better than the looks above! Sign up and see what they choose for you!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $25 with free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the 7 items inside is $695. The cost of each item is listed alongside it above, but if I choose to keep anything, the $25 cost of the box would also be applied to the purchase. That’s an average $95.71 an item, which is on par with the brands included.

Thank you so much, Erin! That Eliza J dress was so cute in. I was really surprised by it tbh! These boxes have sizes that start at 1x or 12-16. So, you can request some of these too if you subscribe to them. I often like to peruse Nordstroms site these days and send my stylist pieces that caught my eye. Sometimes she includes them or similar ones to them. Thank you for all the kind words and reading my review!
